Who knew I’d become an author? Not me. But when the opportunity knocked, I answered the door and welcomed it in. I approach life with as much positivity as I can—celebrating the hits and laughing at the misses. Nothing worthwhile is easy, and that includes everything in my life. But I have much to smile about—my lovely mother, a beautiful daughter, two precious granddaughters, my adorable dogs, and my sweet husband of over thirty years. He has always supported me—including uprooting to move to the other side of Charlotte, N.C. for a life change, just when we thought we were settled.

If settled means not going after my dreams, then I never want to be settled. I give my all to things I enjoy—and that includes writing. In 2021, I hit the USA Today Bestselling Author list, and recently, two of my books were named RONE Finalists!

I love to express myself to the point that my daughter avoids going to the movies with me because I’m that woman in the row in front of you who gleefully munches her popcorn and laughs at every hilarious scene. Loudly. Besides my family, I love chocolate, popcorn, laughter, and animals. I love animals so much that I frequently sprinkle them in my stories as secondary characters. They usually steal the show! British and American history have always interested me, so writing historical romances set in the U.K. and the US is where my passion is.

When I was barely three years old, my parents divorced, and my mom moved my sister and me from New York to South Carolina to live near her parents. Juggling a full-time job and full-time school, my mother became my first genuine hero—she never waved the white flag when things were tough. And things quickly got tough. My grandmother, who helped care for my sister and me while my mother worked, became ill with cancer, and didn’t survive the surgery, dying before I was seven. Losing Grandma devastated me. She read to me and taught me to read before I started first grade. I credit her for inspiring my love of reading, and I credit my mother for encouraging me to turn my ideas into stories.

When I was ten, my neighbor gave me her book club copy of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind and it remains one of my favorite books. But it was Kathleen Woodiwiss’ Shanna and Ashes in the Wind, that hooked me on historical romance and sparked my dream of becoming a published author.

While I primarily write Regency Romance, I enjoy almost any period in American and British history.

Its been so long that I forgot bodice-rippers are totally unapologetic about the label. Despite the book synopsis and year published, this book is true to the trope with the Alpha hedonist, naive virgin heroine, and sexual assault leading to HEA. I dont want to yuck anyone’s yum but its been a long time since I could uncritically read this trope—Im kind of removed from the demographic growing up with madonna/whore values which made bodice-rippers an appealing escapist fantasy.

It’s too realistic for me to read about a hero who cant control his lust and the heroine getting blamed for tempting him; its a room mix up in this story so the hero may be forgiven but society tells her to be thankful she was “ruined” by a good-looking man 🤬.

I finished this for the heroine’s story arc since she’s a missish religious spinster and I was curious how the author would spin her story. She looses her glasses early on (of course, how else is the hero supposed to see her sapphire eyes 🙄) so that’s yet another vulnerability she had to deal with.

The only truly likable character in this book was a parrot. Maybe read this if you’re into birds.

Series: Wicked Earls’ Club #6
Publication Date: 2/14/17

This new-to-me author has included my two favorite elements in a book – mystery and romance. Well, actually, it was a little short on the romance side but was probably typical for marriages of that period. I believe that the book tried to cover too many elements for a novella and I didn’t really feel complete with either of the elements – especially the romance though. There was potential – and they were getting there – but I don’t think a great romance was there yet. The characters had great potential, but they didn’t feel fully developed – although the hero and heroine were fairly well developed. Some of the story also felt a bit contrived – yes, I know it is a story and they are all contrived.

There are some light moments in the story with an incorrigible parrot. He’s absolutely priceless – and the real hero of the story.

Edward Hunter, Earl of Weston, had returned to England from a mission for the crown to find his brother, Robert, dead. Then, a short time later his father died and Edward unexpectedly assumed the title he didn’t want. After some questioning and investigating, Edward came to believe that his brother was murdered rather than dying in the duel he was supposedly fighting. Edward drinks too much and gambles too deep – he always has – and that causes a rift with his mother who blames him for Robert’s death. When Edward finally gets a clue to the whereabouts of a witness he’s been seeking, he and his best friend, Bergen, headed to a house party at the home of Lord Bentley.

Hattie Longbottom is a twenty-six-year-old spinster who is as naïve as the day she was born. Since the age of sixteen, she lived in a very small village taking care of her ailing mother. She’s very involved in the church and takes all of those homilies to heart. Her bright spot is her parrot, Archie. After the death of her mother, she had the choice of living with an aunt (without Archie) or with her half-brother. She chose to live with her brother because she could keep Archie.

So, here is one of those contrived bits I mentioned. The village reverend puts Hattie and Archie on a coach to travel to her brother’s residence. This is a brother who loves his sister and cares for her – he is a member of the aristocracy, but we don’t learn what title he has – we do learn it is less than an Earl, so it must be a Viscount or Baron. At any rate – there is no way he would have allowed his sister to board a mail coach, unchaperoned (or otherwise) to travel to him. He would have sent his coach or come himself. So – that whole part of the story was just not believable to me. There are other bits that felt contrived, but that was the biggest one.

The author used a term that is new to me and I have to find out more about it because it is the first time I’ve seen it used and I have read a lot of Regency period romances. She used it in relation to winning bets. So, I’ve got some research to do. I’m not questioning the use of the term or whether it is correct or not – just something I haven’t seen before. Here’s one place it is used – “Edward was one monkey richer after five games of piquet.” I just have to find out what a monkey is!

I enjoyed the story and would try another book by this author should she choose to write another Regency. I don’t believe that is her normal genre, but I’m not sure.

A sweet story of a restless Earl; and a church-mouse woman, on the verge of spinsterhood. When Edward Hunter, Earl of Weston inherits the title from his father, and now, his elder brother. Edward is not exactly thrilled. A title is the last thing he wanted. When Edward finds out his brother has been murdered while away on business, he will stop at nothing to find the assailant.

Hattie Longbottom is a strict, Christian woman, who believes she is past her prime to marry. While on a trip to her brother Richard's, Hattie loses her ride. When she is stranded on the road, she meets Edward, Earl of Weston. In a valiant effort, Edward delivers Hattie to her brother.
The fun does not end there. When Hattie attends the same house party as the Earl of Weston, one mishap changes Hattie's entire future.

Throughout the story, Hattie discovers secrets, as well as desires that she never knew could happen.
A sweet, humorous, enjoyable read, for anyone who loves Historical Romance.

A delightful story full of humor, intrigue and characters that had me hooked by the first page and enthralled up until the last! Anna St. Claire is one of my favorite authors and her unique style comes out as she weaves a tale of Edward, Earl of Weston with "spinster" Hattie and her amazing parrot Archie, who creates laugh out loud moments which I adored!
As Edward tries to find out the more about the mysterious circumstances of his brother's death, he and his friend Lord Bergen attend a house party. There is a gentleman there he wants to question who may have answers he seeks.
Hattie has been forced to come live with her brother and his wife after the death of her mother who basically held her hostage as her caregiver for over ten years. Her brother happens to be hosting the house party that Edward is attending.
Through a series of events and happenstance, these two find themselves drawn together and there is not telling what may happen! Loved it!!

Another great addition to the Wicked Earls series.
Edward and Hattie are our H and h , but the star of the show has to be Archie , I’ll leave you to discover exactly who that is and why he’s so wonderful.
This is a bit of a murder mystery, compromising innocents , Witty banter sort of book , and it really made me smile , here’s to more of the same soon .

I just finished reading The Earl of Weston. I've never read any of the author's previous writings, but found this book to be an exceptional page turner. From start to finish, the story line kept me riveted. There were equal parts of humor and excitement throughout the pages. I'm looking forward to Anna St. Claires' next piece of writing. I highly recommend reading this book.

New romance author Anna St. Claire delivers in the Earl of Weston. Her writing style is fluid and the addition of the co-author did not detract in the reading. Both molded perfectly and the story came out as a fun reading experience.

I really wasn’t sure what to think about Hattie’s character in the beginning. She is slightly standoffish and brittle, but she totally grew on me as the story progressed. She grew enough as a character where she didn’t lose who she was but she did soften in her demeanor. Hattie's personality was slowly revealed and I found myself liking her with each turn of the page.

I love an author who puts her characters through the ringer. Hattie has all sorts of things happen to her in the first couple chapters alone! Poor Hattie, but oh, it was so much fun to read. It really gets interesting when she meets Edward and his friend.

I don’t think I remember the last time I truly laughed out loud reading a Historical Romance. The one character that really made this story was Archie the parrot. With his penchant for repeating everything he hears (swearwords being his favorite) he tortures anyone within his vicinity with his presence. Well, maybe torture is too harsh of a word? Nah.

“Bugger. Whoremongers! Bugger. Whoremongers!” ~Archie the parrot.

I also appreciated that there wasn’t insta-love/attraction. With Hattie being not your run of the mill histrom heroine, Edward wasn’t just thinking about sex. His thought process was basically “what the heck was that? and she’s crazy.” (not his words but mine, hehe). Their first meeting was so funny that even he couldn’t stop thinking about her. So it wasn’t all about looks and attraction, but the uniqueness of her character and her little winged friend. Archie, the ever lovable matchmaker.

Along with the humorous aspects there were equal parts suspense and intrigue. Weeks later, I’m still thinking about this book. It’s a short and quick read, but quite unforgettable due to the characters themselves, but also because the authors knew what they were doing. Overall, I really look forward to reading more from this author.

This was a new author for me, and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed her book. It is very well-written and moves at a nice pace. The characters are well-developed and are very interesting and lovable. This story has drama, intrigue, emotion, wonderful humor and sweet romance.

There were laugh out loud moments, and there was one big moment when I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. Thoroughly enjoyable and engaging! Well done and highly recommended!

While she might be an aging, religious, sheltered spinster, after a few mishaps, Hattie is coming into her own. She really steals the show because she is not the typical heroine character. I love that Edward thought she was a hoot and couldn’t stop thinking of her. Edward is a rogue but deep down he’s really a caring, considerate man who is grieving, and feeling a bit guilty of his brother’s death. A forced marriage really benefits these two who are the definition of opposites attract. Archie the parrot is unexpected delight. There were a few inconsistencies that threw me off a little, so if you’re a stickler for no errors and perfectly written historical novels, you may find fault with this one. I did enjoy it and thought it was a fun read.

Hilarious! Best laughs I’ve had in a long time!

This book was hilarious! By the time I reached thee 35% mark, I was laughing until I cried. I love a book with humor and few Regency romances contain humor. I would have given this book five stars save for a some issues overlooked by the editors, but which did not greatly affect my enjoyment of the book. As a former English teacher I simply couldn’t totally overlook such errors.

I found this a really good book. Harriet, Edward and the indestructible Archie are all great characters. At a house party Edward mistakenly enters Harriet's room and is forced to marry her after being caught by her family. The little mystery of the story gives depth to the book but Archie has got to be the best character ever.

Oh Archie stole this delightful short story with his antics & language. Edward is honourable but his heavy drinking has its consequences. Hattie changes from strait laced spinster to strong, loving woman overnight which I found too quick but it was a novella so there wasn’t the time for her character to gradually change. Another easy reading story that fits well into the series

Some might think there are spoilers in this review, so I've marked it as having some. I'll let you determine that for yourself. ;)
Earl of Weston, book 7 of the Wicked Earls' Club series, was about Lord Edward Hunter, the Earl of Weston, a man who was said to be determined never to marry, and a 26-year-old Hattie (Harriet Eleanor) Longbottom, who missed her debut and several seasons while she tended to her ailing mother.
When Lord Edward returned home from an assignment for the Crown, he was told that his brother was dead and, two weeks after his return, his father also died. Being the younger brother, he never expected to gain the title of Earl of Weston. Upon learning that his brother had been murdered, he was determined to personally bring the person responsible to justice. When he was informed that a person of interest regarding the murder would be attending a house party that Edward and his friend, Lord Bergen, had been invited to as well, they made all due haste to arrive on time.
Hattie was raised in the country and sheltered from the reality of the rest of the world. (Most of her knowledge was gained from a controlling, overbearing, and over-protective mother and the local vicar, so pretty much everything scandalized her.) After losing her mother, Hattie was given the option to live with an elderly aunt but would be forced to leave behind her parrot, or she could travel to her brother's home to live with him, his wife, and five children. Not wanting to give up her parrot, she set out to make the arduous journey to her brother's estate, taking the parrot with her.
The trip to her brother's home was difficult and several complications arose along the way. The stagecoach stopped at the last inn to change horses with just a few miles to go until it reached her destination. However, because of an unforeseen happenstance, Hattie was left behind and had to find a different way to finish her journey. Upon finally arriving at her brother's estate, Hattie was faced with the knowledge that her brother was hosting a house party and that Edward and his friend were two of those attending it.
Having met in a most peculiar manner, things went from bad to worse very quickly between Hattie and Edward from their very first encounter. Due to an unfortunate incident, Edward had to step up and save Hattie from ruin.
This story was full of angst, drama, intrigue, and a passion that started out as a simmer and then reached smoldering. But the saving grace was the ton of much-needed humor...and let me tell you there was a lot of it. Once the mystery of Edward's brother's death was solved, everything seemed to happen at once, and with it, all the emotions compounded fast.
There was so much more to this story than several of the previous books in this series, and that was a good thing. That made this book even more worthy of being included with the Keeper for the Shelves collection.

Delicious!! 🤭🤭
The 138 páginas it was little!!

Earl of Weston by Anna St. Claire & Lauren Harrison
Wicked Earls’ Club Series Book Six
Edward Hunter, Earl of Weston was at a place he really didn't want to be in his life. He never planned on being more than the second son—wasn't raised to be an earl. But life is never what one expects. Now, he not only holds the title his brother should have had, but he is also trying to find out who murdered his brother.

Hattie Longbottom and her best friend, Archie, are heading to start a new life. The life of a spinster who has depend on her brother's hospitality. Her traveling day hasn't gone too well so far. And it's about to get even worse.

Archie is a great addition to the story. A large parrot who enjoys picking up new words and yelling them. I enjoyed the story line and secondary characters, and I hope their stories will be told in future books.

A bird to the rescue

I freaking adore this story. It is fun and page turning. What more could you ask for? Hattie is a good church going girl that has been taking care of her mom so long that she is doomed to be a spinster. She also know nothing of the world, and less about men
Edward has been faced to take a role he never wanted after his brother questionable death. Living this life of a rouge is fine with him.
This two characters are so different that the event that force them to see how right they are for each other had me laughing out loud.
With mystery, humor, hot romance, and a crazy smart bird I highly recommend this book for a short amusing read.

This is the story of Hattie and Edward, Earl of Weston. They meet as Hattie's stage, with all her clothes, drives away. Edward and his friend give her and her pet Archie a ride to her destination. At her brother's house party, Hattie is compromised and must marry Edward. Archie, the pet parrot, helps save the day when Hattie is captured by a murderer. Though off to a bad start, Hattie and the Earl find they are well suited.
