At least he did up until this minute.
When two women walk into their briefing room, Brian’s heart stops. That’s Sophia, the beautiful woman who spun his world and stole his heart when they met one incredible night in New York City. He’s been looking for her ever since, putting all his high-tech capabilities to work. He’d come up with nada. Yet here she is, strolling into the FBI’s trap.

The women’s lives are in danger, kicking Brian’s fierce protective instincts into high gear. It’s his job to keep them safe.
But the FBI doesn’t believe all is as it seems. The Bureau thinks one of these women is committing treason, helping to sell the conflict relics, funding terror, and putting America and her allies at risk.
Iniquus’s newest case will test Brian’s conviction, honor, and courage. Brian loves Sophia deeply, but which will win the war, his heart or his sense of duty?
I liked that this romance book actually has a very interesting plot, so unlike other romances that have the boy meets girl, they fall in love, they have problems, they solve the problems, they live HEA. I guess it's the suspense part of romantic suspense that makes it so much more interesting. The story moves very quickly, even to the point of getting a little confusing until all the pieces start to fit together. And the sentences are very dense with information. You can't speed read this too easily! It's incredible how many bad things happen to Sophia, but that's one of the things I like about such books: they make me appreciate my own life more. I highly recommend this book. It is so much more than the typical romance novel.
“Relic”, Fiona Quinn’s second book in her ‘Uncommon Enemies’ series, a parallel series to her ‘Lynx’ books featuring another of the Iniquus private special operations teams, will keep you guessing from the very beginning. Satellite archeologist (yes, this is a real profession – they use satellite imagery to locate archeological sites) Sophia finds her life in turmoil after a non-stop series of unusual occurrences put her mental and physical health at risk. Even the experienced Special Ops team that is charged with her security as a South American trip is planned, finds itself hard put to keep up with events.
The novel is packed with twists and red herrings, some of which are not revealed until the very end, and will keep readers on their toes at every moment. Of the protagonists, Sophia is definitely the character who stands out as the chapters related through her point of view allow us to see how the mysterious happenings are influencing her relationship with her protectors, her friends, the strange collection of neighbours she has, and even her two young children. Quinn does a masterful job here, allowing the reader to observe some of Sophia’s more doubtful actions (she might be helping fund terrorism) whilst setting up the twists that will come later.
If you have not read any of the Lynx books, or the previous book in this series, do not worry. The tale reads perfectly as a stand-alone, as well as an introduction to the Lynx series and its ancillary tales. The pace is fast throughout, the storyline original and exciting, both hallmarks of thriller writer Quinn’s novels. Recommended!
A MUST read full of Romance, mystery and suspense! If you’ve never read a Fiona Quinn book then you don’t know what you are missing! My usual genre is paranormal romance (shapeshifters, vampires, faeries, etc.) and when I first stumbled onto Fiona Quinn’s books I thought why not try it….A Romantic suspense with a hint of the paranormal. Now I can’t stop reading them! I know that once I start one of her books I won’t be able to put it down until I finish it, which usually means I’m up late reading. If you haven’t read one of her books I recommend trying it, I know you’ll have a new author you’ll love. I know I did with the first book of hers I read (Weakest Lynx) and from then on when she has a book come out I know I won’t be disappointed and I know that I’ll want more! Once you start one book you’ll want to read them all! Sophie and Nadia are Space Archaeologist whose company hires Iniquus to protect them during a dig. So Sophie and Nadia go into Iniquus to give a presentation as to what they will be doing. Brian AKA Brainiack is part of the team that will be protecting both women during their dig. But there is a secondary mission involving the FBI that just might complicate things because Brian knows one of the women, and he’d like to get to know her a little better. With a string of bad luck will Brian be able to keep both women safe? To find out you’ll have to read Relic! I can’t wait for the next story!
Maybe... Coincidence? Almost certainly not! Brian knows Sophia is his, knew it the first time they met but he has to suppress his feelings in order to keep her safe and investigate. But keeping her safe is difficult when they cannot even work out how many targets are on her back...is it just one or could there possibly be two? Sophia's life has lurched from one disaster to another for the last five years, she absorbs one blow after another as life, fate and karma kick her ass again and again....and again. She is the strongest person I have seen as she repeatedly deflects blows mentally and physically, living in a constant state of fight or flight as she waits for the next blow to strike....will this be the one that takes her down? I love this series and I really like the bond that Sophia and Lynx form, whilst it's not as hot and steamy as the bond between Sophia and Brian, it is still a fascinating bond to see. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Fiona Quinn is amazing, I always get snatched into the story from the first page....Brian and Sophia have a connection that is every girls dream. Brian gets his happily ever after....
Another intense romantic thriller to add to your Iniquus bookshelf. Fiona Quinn does not disappoint in her latest book. Ride alongside Brian Ackerman as he tries to unravel the truth of who is funding ISIS by selling ancient artifacts. There were a few surprises I didn't see coming. This book will keep you on your toes. Once you start Relic, you won't be able to put it down until the end.
I would give Relic ten stars if I could. Not only was it fast paced, it had all the elements that make a great novel - intrigue, well fleshed out characters that you could not only believe in but empathize with as well.
This is the first book I have read from this author but it sure won't be the last. Happy reading. Annemarie
I read this book through Dead Silent: A Boxed Set Collection
This book was a complete joy to read I love how Fiona Quinn Incorporated the (Egyptian style) curse from an archaeological dig into the main storyline Bryan and Sofie story was a fun exciting suspenseful story and wow the unexpected happened in multiple parts but that last twist really makes me think about those close to me and if I truly know them amazing read
The latest installment in Quinn’s Uncommon Enemies series, Relic is a fast-paced thriller that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.
Years ago, Sophia and Nadia were assisting their fathers as they tried to stem the flow of artifacts being sold by ISIS to fund their terroristic activities. The girls were kidnapped and subsequently released, but the ordeal left Sophia with PTSD, and that, along with a plethora of tragedies, has left her barely able to cope with everyday life. Now, as a grown woman with two small children to raise, she and Nadia are still working to save the artifacts scattered all over the Middle Eastern world, but Sophia is floundering, and is on the radar of national security organizations that suspect she was turned by her captors.
Enter Iniquuis, a private security organization who have been hired by Sophia’s employers to protect the women when they go on an expedition to Peru. Sophia’s protector is Brian, a man from her past, whom she would rather forget. Brian, however, has fond memories of their one night stand, and though he tries to keep their association professional, has trouble keeping his emotions in check.
Along with her many difficulties, Sophia is also plagued by neighborhood bullies and stalkers, leading Brian to suspect someone is trying to drive her off the deep end. He does all he can to ensure her safety, but somehow those determined to hurt her are succeeding. Her disorder causes physical manifestations that leave her and her children vulnerable to harm, and keep Brian and his Iniquuis colleague, Lynx, on their toes while they try to protect her from sinister forces threatening her sanity.
Brian is not convinced that Sophia has been turned, but she hides whenever her phone rings to conceal her conversations, and she rebuffs his efforts to show her any kindness. Brian walks a tightrope between allegiance to his country and his feelings for Sophia as events threaten to spiral out-of-control.
Is Sophia aiding the enemy? Will Brian be able to protect her from her enemies, or will she be consumed by her own demons?
Quinn has fashioned a good old-fashioned spy mystery with a bit of romance, a slew of interesting characters, and a clever intermingling of human drama and international terrorism. This is the second book in the Uncommon Enemies series and I eagerly await book number three.
Brian and Sophie talk about a tangled web woven in mystery.
I really loved this story it was action packed, full of history and mystery and omg talk about Sophie having a dark cloud drowning her lol Cursed, Jinxed no matter what you call bad omens they all seemed to be surrounding Sophie, can Brian keep his focus and save the damsel in so much distress especially when she wants to stand on her own to keep everyone around her safe.
Oh this was a wondrous web to untangle especially for Brian with his heart so firmly attached to Sophie can he believe Sophie is innocent or will the evidence show something more sinister and this is just one part of the web there seem to be so many more entanglements that actually have nothing to do with the other there are freaky neighbours who seem to be watching closely then there is a crazy neighbour acting out whenever Sophie is around it is taking Brian and the panther team time to sort everything out when nothing seems to be adding up except that Sophie is in danger, which means her kids are in danger and it looks like the FBI have Sophie in their sights as well Brian is fast running out of time to put the puzzles together and keep Sophie safe.
Relic Iniquus, Book 8... Uncommon Enemies, Book 2 Fiona Quinn, author
An intellectual, complex novel...
First, I love this author's brilliant storytelling, but, I must say, I'm so glad I listened to the audio version of this one. There was so much going on with this storyline and there were multiple agencies involved in trying to solve the mystery of Dr. Sophia Abadi. Iniquus, the FBI, perhaps foreign intelligence, the list goes on.....
Is Sophia a victim or is she a terrorist? That's the big question. And Brian Ackerman from Iniquus is ordered to protect her. Only there's one problem. He met her months before and promptly lost his heart to her after one night together. She, of course is unaware of this. Now he must make a decision. If she's guilty of terrorism, does he turn the cheek and look the other way or does he turn her in?
Now there are other issues going on, weird things are happening around Sophia. There's a neighbor, whose ailing father keeps appearing in her home, demanding she leave his home at once and there's a mad woman that seems to be stalking and harassing Sophia, as well as destroying her property. Did I say this was a complex storyline or what?
I was gifted a digital copy of the book and chose to leave this review.
Relic has some action in it but it's more about psychological intrigue and suspense. The premise of guilty until proven innocent allows characters to make lots of assumptions based on circumstantial evidence only to have it blow up in their faces. In addition there's an investigation into terrorism funding, illegal artifacts acquisition, a serial killer, a neighborhood full of crazies and a lot of unexplained occurrences just to mention a few story components.
Brian spent a few precious hours with Sophie and was convinced that she may the one only to have her disappear on him. So, when she appears at Iniquus he takes that as a sign until he learns about his latest mission. He's to provide security for her from now through an upcoming archeological dig while trying to prove she's involved in funding terrorists. The more time he spends with her the more he's convinced of her innocence and that she truly is his future. Sophia maybe a successful, highly regarded archeologist with a stellar pedigree but she's a woman barely getting by in the rest of her life. She's a single mother of two boys whose lost her husband, her father & mother & her in-laws. There's no time or place in her life for romance. Fortunately for her Brian doesn't give up easily. He will protect no matter what.
I enjoyed this one. It was entertaining and interesting with the two sets of roles for the Iniquus operators. Brian and Sofia know each other from one night about a year ago and while they felt a real, deep connection, Sofia ran and Brian didn’t have the information in order to track her down. Sofia has been going from one bad thing to another and just trying to move forward one step at a time. Brian is assigned to Sofia and he is trying to stay neutral and find the truth, which will hopefully clear her. The FBI has hired Iniquus to figure out if one or both Sofia and Nadia are dirty and helping steal and sell relics illegally. The AACP has also hired Iniquus to provide protection for them while out on digs and to help keep them safe. This one was interesting with the different parts. Sofia seemed to have things and people coming at her from multiple angles while also keeping secrets which looked like they could make her culpable to the FBI. I enjoyed the story and how it all played out and can’t wait for the next one.
Wow this book was one crazy ride. It took me on twists and turns that I did not see coming except for one, I did figure that out. The added touch of the Paranormal seemed quite natural to be in this story because of the history that I know about lynx. For me, the heroine was clever strong and very resilient and the way Fiona wrote her character, definitely put her in the box seat called suspicion. I was a bit grumpy with Brian as he reminded me of another character that also appeared in this story as well as a previous novel. Steve almost shared the same fate as Brian. Then, just when you think it's over Fiona puts another twist into the book and the hero steps in and his actions obviously make things right. This is full of action, fast pace and suspense. Very, very little romance and no steam, but if you like a good crime mission mystery, and puzzling them out then this is for you. Fiona has outdone herself with this book, it has international repercussions ba crazy surroundings in suburbia and red herrings galore. James as the narrator did an awesome job.
Brian, "Brainiac", is a member of Iniquus' Panther Force. He and Thorn have been tasked with protecting two archeologists on an upcoming dig in Peru. The FBI believes the two are involved in the piracy of artifacts which are then sold on the black market, filling the coffers of terrorists. But Brian knows Sophia from a night a year earlier when they met while she was out celebrating her birthday. He has a hard time seeing Sophia as a terrorist sympathizer, but he has a job to do, and a puzzle to solve if he's going to save the woman he's already fallen hard for.
This addition to the series showcases Brian, as he tries to untangle the threads that have ensnared Sophia, leading her to believe she's cursed. It's a good mystery and a great read. I'm looking forward to book three.
Having a drink after a hard day of soldiering, Brian ‘Brainack’ Ackerman thought archeologist Sophia Abadi was exactly what he’d been waiting for all his life but when Brian woke, Sophia was gone like moonlight. Through a CIA/Iniquus contract Brian’s surprised to learn he and Thorne are assigned to guard Sophia and her partner, Nadia on their digs as a means to put a stranglehold on ISIS funding.
The CIA has a more nefarious plot afoot, they’ve decided at least one of the women are actually smuggling the highly valued artifacts to terrorists. Watching Sophia closely, Brian notes Sophia’s too accident prone, very deeply in debt and has lost her entire support system in the last few years making her a prime target to be forced into compliance by terrorists just as a personal connection is discovered. Rating: 4.5stars
If it weren't for bad luck Dr. Sophia Abadi would have no luck at all. And now she is stuck in the midst of all the alphabet soup of governmental agencies and the infamous Iniquus. She is both a protectee and suspect, an awkward and conflicting situation. And when Brian Ackerman, Brainiac, becomes part of her security team, all bets are off. They shared a sexual and intense night a few months before and now their attraction is still in play. But the wild and crazy ride that is this book includes vandalism, terrorism, ancient curses, deaths and stalkers. While Sophie's career as an archeologist seems safe and calm, it certainly isn't. It is up to Iniquus, and Brian, to insure Sophie is innocent until proven guilty. And see if their attraction can find a way to love. Exciting and captivating from start to finish.
Fiona Quinn has a remarkable talent of presenting characters that quickly tug at my heart. Relic is a page-turner that kept me intrigued until the end. I loved that characters from prior novels made an appearance in this book, but are explained enough to make this a stand-alone story.
In Relic, Sophia is an archeologist who is being protected by Brian and his Iniquus team in her efforts to save Middle Eastern antiquities. As they are drawn in to her ever complicated home life, things may or may not be as they seem. The many twists and turns of this story will keep you reading, long after it's time for bed. I highly recommend this book.
It didn't disappoint, so much drama and intrigue. Brian "Brainack" Ackerman and Sophia Dajani, wow. FBI believes Sophia to be a terrorist sympathizer and hires Inniquis and Brian's team to act as if are security to protect them on their archaeologist digs. Unknown to everyone else is that Brian and Sophie a year before had a one night stand. He finds out she is a mother of two small children with a female archaelogy partner who is also under suspicion. So many twists and turns with crazy neighbors, stalkers and evil spirits. I figured out two of the culprits, but what lengths folks go through when they are sick. Good read. Look forward to the next book.
Panthers Force is back and on anew mission. Their job is multi faceted as there are multiple clients and issues. The job quickly focuses on Sophia and what all is going wrong in her life.
The writing is fast paced and the story is intriguing. Romance is an element but a lot less of one than the others in this series. Lynx and Titus play a role in the story as does Gage, Nutsbe, Black and a few other familiar names. It is interesting to see the dichotomy at play with this company and the FBI or CIA. I enjoyed the misunderstanding between everyone and hope to see more of Mr. Black and Titus.
Brian is the Iniquus hunk spotlighted in this volume of the Uncommon Enemies series. He's got the hots for antiquities cyber-expert Sophia, and it's a tough job trying to protect her while looking for evidence that might incriminate her. Figuring out who's criminal and who's innocent gets pretty tricky, especially with Sophia's loony neighbors getting into her space every five minutes. I got acquainted with Fiona Quinn's stories by way of a collection of romantic suspense novels, and I'm enjoying reading more of her books. They're a little racier than I usually read, but you can skim past the sex scenes easily enough.
Start with the Lynx series. Box set #2. Ignore box set #1 for now. I'm working on reading the books in chronological order and having quite the ride. They don't mention that being good looking is in the job description, but I'm beginning to think it is. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love, all the good things you want from a book. Did I mention I'm binging these like crazy?
Boy meets girl, falls in love, she disappears the next morning. About a year later, boy discovers girl is his client to protect. Shenanigans ensue. And not what you're thinking. Enjoy!
Another great book of course. I love the Inquus World. I’ve been telling all my friends to read this series. Relic was so good. I can picture so much of this story from news events, so it makes the book seem so real. Gotta say the MFC is always a brainiac (lol yeah I know). The intrigue in the stories grabs you and before you know it it’s 2:04am and you gotta get up at 6:30…but you are almost done and lord knows I will just think of the possible outcomes so why not just finish so I can sleep in peace?! BTW why wasn’t Finn fired after what he did previously? Why would they ever want to work with or trust his judgement? And he screws up again, see?!?
Sophia and Brian's story is unusual but very interesting. Having met before, Brian has the difficult task of protecting Sophia and her teammate without allowing his personal feelings to interfere with his duty. Sophia's life is a mess as she tries to keep her children safe while dealing with multiple disasters that are affecting her physically and emotionally. It's a very well written story that keeps you on the edge of your seat as you try to figure out how this is all going to end. An unexpected ending with a twist.
I enjoyed this addition to the Iniquus series by Fiona Quinn. I liked Sophia but Brian not as much. Not sure how he felt his declaration to her that he wanted to be with her even if she ended up in prison would be received. So He loved her but didn’t trust her. Not sure I would forgive him as easily as she seemed to. This is a HFN versus a HEA since they never really even went out on a date and with the trauma she has experienced she needs to take a bunch of time to get her life back in order before she commits to someone. Still a great book.
Relic (Uncommon Enemies #2), my first read from author Fiona Quinn. An outstanding read. I've gotten 26 other books by her since 2017 and yet never got around to reading one, my mistake. Reminiscent of author Jacki Delecki's Impossible Mission series, if you've read & enjoyed that then you'll enjoy this. This appears to be another must-read series of books that you cannot wait to get to the next one! I look forward to the next book, they're that good. "I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
With RELIC, Fiona Quinn delivers another well-written, heart-pounding novel set within the Iniquus agency that she introduced in her highly successful Lynx series. Her characters are three-dimensional, believable people, and her story is backed up with substantial research to make it front-page timely. Make sure to set aside enough time to read it through, as you'll be so engrossed you won't want to put it down.
Sophia is a dr trying to keep artifacts from getting into the bad hands but at the same time the things gs she is doing is making her look guilty of helping ISIS. One day she was giving a speech to the team and she saw someone she had a wonderful night with but left before they could talk cause she didnt want to hurt him. Throught the years her life has been through hell and with the help of a team she is able to stay safe.
