“Oh! Here’s a chance to go in a completely different direction!” That was the thought that flitted through Jon Cryer’s mind when – after starring as Duckie Dale in PRETTY IN PINK – he read the script for DUDES. Directed by Penelope Spheeris, best known at the time for having directed the acclaimed documentary THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION, the 1987 film DUDES – which starred Cryer and Daniel Roebuck (MATLOCK / LOST) as punk rockers who embark on a road trip which takes a dark turn – was only just barely released into theaters, only received a limited home-video release thereafter, and remained out of print until 2017, when it was released on Blu-ray by Shout Factory. Learn more about this cult classic film from the people who made it by reading DUDES: AN ORAL HISTORY OF A PUNK ROCK WESTERN ROAD MOVIE, which includes reminiscences from Cryer, Roebuck, and co-stars Catherine Mary Stewart (NIGHT OF THE COMET) and Lee Ving (CLUE), as well as Spheeris, producer Miguel Tejada-Flores (REVENGE OF THE NERDS), and screenwriter Randall Jahnson (THE DOORS).

The inside story of the one and only punk rock western
Take a bizarre concept (punks in a western), add some great talent, mix with mid80s awesome and you get Dudes. And this is the terrific first-hand story of how it happened.
Enjoyed reading about everyone being unsure what they were making and how proud they were to get it made.
