Okay. Fine. Amy Holt swore on air. Surely that doesn’t make her an inept radio host. Either way, she’s desperate for work; and if she doesn’t find something soon, it’s back to Australia.
When the job of her dreamish nightmares presents itself, Amy jumps at the opportunity, surprised to hear that the station is built on a wormhole, opening it up to infinite realms.
Interviewing Bigfoot and her doppelganger aren’t that problematic. Working for her sister’s ex-boyfriend though, is a whole other matter. He’s ridiculously charismatic. And good looking. Poor bugger is missing a six-pack, though.
Suddenly, traveling through an apocalyptic wasteland and mollifying racist Bigfeet doesn’t seem so hard.
Trying to avoid Ryan’s charm, though? Yeah, that wasn’t in the job description.

I love cats. I love every kind of cat. I just want to hug all of them, but I can't hug every cat.
After expressing love for Colt Harper Vampire Cat I was asked if I wanted to read Realm FM and I'm very glad I said yes. Another rip roaring rollercoaster ride of a book; this time set in a radio station that sits on a worm hole that links to every realm in the universe. Amy, in her new job alongside colleague Ryan interviews people and creatures from these other realms as well as visiting a few. It doesn't all go well. In her first interview she manages to upset an entire race by calling them Bigfoot.
There are also mysterious trials that take place whilst Amy is in her probation period. The whole thing is utterly bonkers but I like that. We all need a bit of pure escapism in our lives.
I loved the characters. I demand a whole book to the never spotted Jean Winchester (an in-joke to any of us Supernatural fans). The book whizzes past so fast I was a bit surprised to find it ending. It's just another fantastic piece of work. Highly recommended
“Depends. In some realms we were created by aliens. To them, we’re nothing more than drones. In others, we’re part of a high schooler’s science experiment―we’re just sea monkeys. In others, we’re simulations, living in the matrix.”
Basic Keywords and Intro:
- A whimsical Sci-Fi story. - First Person Point of View. - Amy got fired for swearing on air, and if she doesn’t find a new job ASAP, she has no choice but to go back to Australia. - Her sister’s ex got her a new radio hosting job at Realm FM. - Realm FM is an intersectional radio station that exists in a wormhole. - This means that all dimensions, except this one, can listen and join as guests. - She also has to pass "the trials", which is hard because she never knows when they're happening. - An entertaining, fast read.
“Ready to sign your life away?” “This better not be some Illuminati deal I’m making,”
Points to address:
1) The storyline - A radio that airs in every single realm of this universe. - Yes! This includes parallel universes, where things such as Hilary Clinton becoming the president have occurred. - Amy’s new job is literally, “OUT of THIS WORLD”. - Tyrolin comes up with the craziest/ weirdest ideas ever!!!!! - Did you know that there is a realm where alien cows milk humans???
2) Politics ?? - On her 1st day, she offends an entire race by calling the Sasquatch mayor “ BigFoot”, making her the most racist person on that specific Realm. - Getting backlashed on something a person couldn’t have known could be a bit shocking, but how they act afterwards highlights what kind of person they are. - I believe this was done to record this contemporary issue; as well as, to make Amy’s character flawed.
3) The Author: - Tyrolin does’t just write and publish a book, NOPE!!! - She goes and interviews her characters on her youtube channel. Watch it here - She co-hosts a podcast that is basically Realm FM. Listen to it here - Also, I really like how Amy reminds me of Tyrolin.
“Ah, we’re told it’s similar to Realm 4, except our water is toxic. Oh, and Hillary Clinton made president in 2008. Other than that, we’re pretty similar.”
Things I liked:
- This books is probably the craziest thing that I’ve ever read. Yeah, that is a compliment!! - The little pokes of current events that Tyrolin threw into the mix, #genius. - The Romance and the characters.
“Do you ever wonder if maybe America wasn’t the right place for us? What if they don’t like us because they’re racist?” Giving up on my coffee, I lean back, wincing when my shirt sticks to the back of the seat. How the hell is the back of a seat so sticky? “We’re two white girls and we’re Australian. Do you even know what racist means?”
Things I didn’t like:
- Comparing someone’s behavior to a mental illness is a huge turn off for me.
“I mentioned his name and you went from chipper to depressed in 0.3 seconds. It was the most intense bi-polar episode I’ve ever witnessed.”
I received an eARC in exchange with an honest review.
Might be my favourite book I've written :) available for only THREE DAYS, 99c sale! Perfect for a Christmas pressie....for yourself! ;) https://www.amazon.com/Realm-FM-Tyrol...
Realm FM is about a radio show--with guests from other dimensions. (The station is built on a wormhole. Obviously.) We rounded up some inter-dimensional guests of our own to share their impressions of the book. https://youtu.be/kjbuyBJdqIs
If you are looking for something light, funny and out of this world, then look no further!! I found this to be such a hilarious read and yet another hit from the author!
This is the story of Amy who is an Aussie and has been sacked from her radio show for swearing live on air. Her and her sister, Lucinda then go to America to try and make their dreams come true but life for them isn't going as planned! But Amy gets a break when they cross paths with Ryan, Lucinda's hunky ex!, who works for Realm FM and Amy gets thrown straight in at the deep end, instanstly offends a guest and the audience love her!!
But Realm FM is no normal radio station! It's built on a portal which is the key to multiple dimensions! So the guests are from a variety of species - the weird and the wonderful all listen in to Realm FM - and Amy instantly feels at home there! That tells you all you need to know about Amy!!
I loved the relationship the sisters have and just adored the situations that they found themselves in. There are alternate realities, doppelgangers, illness by possession and even an appearance from Colt Harper (vampire cat!) which made my day! There are plenty of nods to modern life and all the madness it brings and this help make it even funnier! The relationship between Amy and Ryan was also extremely enjoyable and the overall message of living life to be happy and of loyalty was lovely to read!
I love books that make me smile and snigger, and this did both throughout and I could easily see this as a TV sitcom - this needs to happen!! More please!!!
For a book with good writing and a distinct voice, REALM FM was a terrible disappointment. With a finale that rendered most of the characters useless, I was left wondering why a book that started out so fun soured so badly.
I enjoyed Amy. She was a fun character who was going through some seriously messed up stuff, both at home and at work. Unfortunately for her, and for readers, all of her trials were fabricated: they were either a test or she hadn’t been given enough information to make an educated decision in the first place. No one can be blamed for screwing up when you don’t tell them what to expect and surprising them with a yeti.
All of the characters acted in slightly off-kilter ways. Her co-host kept giving her information too late; the polyamorous/psychic kept sporadically not being sad about her whole family dying; things were made out to be a big deal by some characters, then brushed aside and fixed by another. Amy kept being put in danger, and everyone just shrugged and said that’s how it was done at Realm FM. Gross.
The relationship between Amy and her co host, Ryan, feels more like the instant attraction you get in werewolf stories with fated mates. My issue is that the big reveal puts their whole relationship in question and, if I was Amy, I would feel betrayed and dirty. Any attempt at a happily-ever-after is tainted by this deep betrayal.
With a conclusion that made zero sense, a host of characters who have no point and a completely useless subplot with Amy’s sister, I’m sorely disappointed by a book that I was so excited to read. I can forgive insta-love; I can forgive deus ex machina; I can forgive “it was all a dream”; I can’t forgive all three.
Tyrolin Puxty’s latest work, Realm FM, is a wonderfully whimsical timey whimey trek through the life of Amy Holt, a disgraced radio host who was working in America before she was fired for swearing on air. Before Amy moves home to Australia she makes a last ditch effort at find a new job by asking her sisters ex boyfriend Ryan if she could get her work at his station, the mysterious Realm FM. What Amy doesn’t know is the radio station is on a wormhole that allows her to broadcast to and interview people from many of the infinite realms in the multiverse.
Puxty welcomes us back into her world and we soon find out that this story, along with all her previous works (Colt Harper, Broken Dolls) are all canonized in the same universe (multiverse?). Puxty’s character of Amy feels very personal and Puxty surrounds Amy with well meaning but heavily flawed supporting characters that essentially move the plot. The end features a decision that could have gone in two very distinct directions and though I am happy with the ending, I feel she played it safe and stayed away from what I believe would have been the stronger choice.
All in all I thoroughly enjoy this light read and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a less than 200 page story with a bit of fun and a tonne of heart.

What a fun trippy book! I haven't read anything like this before and it held my attention so much I didn't want to put it down once I started.
Amy lost her radio gig and needs to find another and soon. When she calls her sister's ex who works at station she gets an interview. Now as interview go this is definitely different but then so is this radio station. Different realms, different types of beings just another day at her office as long as she can pass the trails and the council. And the ending sets it up to maybe more. Hopefully!
What do you do after you curse on the radio. That is the question Amy is asking herself after she is let go from her job for doing just that .Amy and her sister are originally from Australia and came to America to make it big . Well they both aren't doing so well , and contemplating moving back home . Until the day Amy goes in for a job interview at Realm FM . Where there is a seer and a Ryan who by the way is really hot . Poor Amy is thrown into the mix right away and bam first off insults a sasquatch and then it just goes down hill from there. Will she survive the trials of the new job and will she really understand all that there is to REALM FM This story is so hilarious , I have never laughed so hard while reading a book. They characters are amazing . Amy just keeps putting her foot in her mouth every time she opened it. She is fun loving and sweet . But when push comes to shove she will stand up for those she cares about . Ryan is a sweet guy but also he is an ex of Amy's sister . He falls for Amy hard and they do have their moments . But alas he does her wrong and she lets him have it . The rest of the characters from Dahny to Clara will keep you in stitches . This is a fantasy book with a splash of romance thrown in . The author takes us on a fun filled ride through universes . I truly love the way this author tells a story . You will fall in love with the characters and laugh and cry with them . I will have to say this could be my new favourite book . So if you want a fun fast read check it out
I chose this from Curiosity quills list of humor. I discovered the publisher via one of my favourite far-fetched fiction series, Nina Post's Donut Shop of the Apocalypse. The book was good, but unfortunately I didn't find it funny. The idea is really interesting and I thought the storyline was creative but it just wasn't enough for me to feel it was outstanding. To be fair, I don't watch much American tv and references to American horror story (?) And Gilmore (sp?) Girls are lost on me, I only know they were referenced because names were mentioned that I had to look up. I find British humour funny, so if there was American humour I usually see it but don't find it funny. I didn't even see it. Maybe it was Australian humour, or maybe it's just not funny.
The writing was good, so the sticking point for me is really the lack of humour and it was just an underwhelming read. I'm sure if it wasn't one of my favourite genres, and I lacked comparisons I'd be much more impressed.
This, I put in the Robert Rankin self-ascribed genre of far-fetched fiction. If there was such a category. I'd say Realm FM is fantasy chicklit. It was (Imho) chicklit with low fantasy as background. I'd love to see this as a Kindle Worlds series, the Realm FM universes are ripe for more stories.
Realm FM by Tyrolin Puxty was my favorite rom-com of all time. I had to take several breaks because I couldn’t stop laughing at times.
5 stars.
We are introduced to Amy, an Oussie who is in America trying to break into becoming a famous radio announcer, until she drops the f-bomb live on air on Christmas Day. She then gets offered another job with her sisters ex Ryan, and things may not be as they seem
Amy’s inner monologue was one of the funniest trails of thoughts I have ever read. Her adventures are absolutely iconic and so amazing to work through. Lu is very different from any other character I’ve read, she’s interesting and I loved her. And Ryan. Oh. We absolutely love and stan Ryan here.
The pop culture references were incredible, and the jokes and slams made against some of them were so funny. I died when I read Jean and Dan. I still think of that one and just crack up laughing. This definitely takes the cake for funniest book I’ve read.
The plot was wild, and I couldn’t put this book down. This book is an absolute masterpiece of quick quips and funny anecdotes with the perfect side of romance and sci-fi it was brilliant and I can’t even describe how much I loved it!
As a broadcast professional, I expected to find a lot of things about Realm FM based on the perception of radio broadcast as portrayed on TV and in the movies instead of reality. I was happy to see that Ms. Puxty did her research. I even learned that she fills in as a host for her local radio show. I’m happy to say that she got most of the stuff right.
Realm FM is a whimsical cross between Sliders, Supernatural, and WKRP in Cincinnati. While her Broken Dolls series had a more serious undertone, and a plot that sometimes missed the mark, Realm FM is a lighthearted sci-fi romp that makes fun of itself, including cameos of characters from other Puxty works.
With a multitude of “serious” sci-fi that often has an agenda, it’s nice to just read a fun story about an interdimensional radio station, and a protagonist that must come to reality with an infinitely diverse multiverse. (Kind of what Sliders was during the first two seasons.)
I enjoyed Realm FM, and I think that you will too. I’d like to see a companion story, but I doubt that that’s in the cards. Four stars! If you’re a fan of Sliders, then you’ll love Realm FM.
I really thought I'd like this. I liked the blurb and well it started out pretty good. Albeit a little different but it was still interesting enough to keep my attention for awhile anyways. I liked Amy a lot and all the stuff she was dealing with not just in her life but this "job" I felt a little cheated and pissed off on her behalf. I mean she was completely lied to and betrayed. All these tests she had to do and come to find out weren't real. Its like how was she even going to know what to do without the right information? Its like they wanted her to screw up really bad but then after the fact give the information. Um why even bother? Then there's Ryan and his role. I just dont know if I could forgive that. The ending was just like huh? I dont even know what happened. It was a disappointing end for me. I know a lot of people liked this but I dont know it just rubbed me the wrong way. Its just not a win for me. Sorry.
I thoroughly enjoyed Tyrolin Puxty's Broken doll series and was hoping this would be as great as they where and she didn't let me down. Tyrolin Puxty is back with another smashing hit!
This time based in outer-space in a WORM HOLE! This story is full of humor, love, politics and some sweet SiFi locations. I couldn't drop this book for even a moment, every page kept me turning tell i reached what i wished would never come the end. (That actually is my only complaint about the book is that it wasn't longer lol!) Its a great fast paced book that will keep you hooked!
I definitely recommend to any fans of the broken doll series and any SiFi fans!
P.s. the author has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review.
Amy makes a mistake at her radio job and gets fired. So, she finds another job with her sister's ex, Ryan. The thing is that this new job is at a radio station that sits over a portal to different realms. Everything is good at first, and Amy's understandably excited, but soon she has to pass emotionally and mentally draining tests to prove she's trustworthy enough to work at the station.
I liked Amy a lot, and, for the most part, I liked her relationship with her sister, but what she goes through gets to be too much. She has (kind of) a thing with Ryan, but Ryan's clearly got issues. So do other people associated with the station.
This is a good book. It's well-written with an interesting plot and a great main character, but it's essentially a toxic workplace comedic drama.
This was such a fun romp to read. Amy Holt got fired from her regular radio host job for swearing on air. She is ready to go back to Australia when her sister's ex gets her a job at his radio station Realm FM. Only it's not like any radio station she has ever worked at. There are different dimensions or realms where people come to the radio show to interview or promote themselves. On Amy's first day she insults the whole race of Sasquatches' by calling them Bigfoot. That's only the first problem. She finds herself more and more into Ryan (her sister's ex) as time goes by.
I loved Tyrolin Puxty's Broken Doll series and this one does not disappoint. The world building is great and full.
I received this book Realm FM by Tyrolin Puxty from Hidden Gems for free in exchange for my review. I think this was a very fun book. A little bit of Romance and fantasy. A radio station built on top of a wormhole? Different Dimensions? Sign me up! The main character Amy was a little annoying at first, but she did grow on me. Her love interest sounds like a great match for her. I am a little disappointed with the ending. However, I did really enjoy the book and I would recommend it to others. If you are looking for fun, adventure, Bigfoot, and dimensions beyond our own please pick up this book.
This was my third Tyrolin Puxty book, and while it wasn't like the other books I had come to know and like, this had a very Welcome to Nightvale feel. I read the first half in sitting. just having to know what happens next.
The storyline is fast paced, the characters are well written, even if I did have some issues with Dahney and how she tried to force herself on Ryan, the others weren't so bad.
This is a fun quick read if you're in the mood for something different than everything else. A good read. 4 out of 5 stars.
I liked the concept and the world(s) of this book, but overall it felt like a bit of a rushed read. Things happen, and then other things happen, but there's not much room to develop all of the characters or plot that much. I liked Amy as a character, but it was hard to get a read on Ryan. The dialog between them at times made me feel like I was reading a YA novel (is this a YA novel? I really can't tell). It was short enough which made it an easy read, but I really just couldn't get into this book.
She made a mistake on air so she is sacked and she needs a new job. She is offered one but it will mean working with her sister ex but she is in for a shock when she learns about a wormhole. She will also find it a challenge to work with him. How will it all go? Can she steer clear of him? Will she love her new job? See how they get on I received an advance copy from hidden gems and I want to review
I really enjoyed reading this book, it was what I was hoping for from the description. It had a great scifi concept and I really had a good time reading this. The characters were what I was looking for and glad I got to read this.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
You will fall in love with the characters and laugh and cry with them . I will have to say this could be my new favorite book . So if you want a fun fast read check it out.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Hysterically entertaining walk on on the edge of sanity.
Love this! Perfect escape from the daily grind. Very original story with familiar myths, places, and things twisted to an entirely different Realm. (Yes pun intended.)
After Amy cursed on live air, her chances of getting another job on the radio are almost nonexistent- meaning she may have to give up on her dream and move back to Australia. But a phone call to her sister's ex who also works in radio gives her one last chance to prove that she is meant to be a radio personality. When Amy finds herself at a shack in the middle of nowhere, she second guesses her choices. But she figures she will give it a shot- and ends up experiencing the biggest adventure of her life.
When I read the synopsis for this story, I was so excited to get my hands on the book. The concept is so cool, a radio station that is built on a wormhole between the realms- I really didn't even need to know anything else, that was enough to pique my interest. This is a pretty short read at only 160 pages as per my ereader, yet the author was able to create so many worlds and creatures- you may run into Bigfoot (but don't call him that, it's racist!), or see an alien abduct a cow, meet volcano people, but watch out for the zombie apocalypse. The mix of all the characters, genres and worlds came together in such a quirky way that I could not help but be enchanted by what I read.
This was as much a fantasy adventure as it was a romance book. The romance was not the main focus of the book, but it did run the course of the plot playing as important a role in the Amy's motivation as being a radio DJ was. As a side note, I was not a fan of who she picked as her love interest (don't get me wrong, he was a nice guy) since it was her sister's ex- there is a code that you don't date friends/sisters ex boyfriends, it just leads to a new level of awkwardness.
The story wrapped up nicely so this could be a standalone book, but it does set up for more realm traveling adventures if Amy does choose so. I found this to be a very quick, fun read- a perfect escapism read that I highly recommend.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance, complimentary copy of this book.
