MaryJo Mullaney is out on a limb. High in a tree in the middle of a gusting rainstorm. No glasses. No shoes. No coat. Rescuing her cat, Jack-- who doesn't realize he needs rescuing. Banker by day, hacker by night, she's given up on the male species. Except Jack.
Coding his next blockbuster software release, millionaire developer Travis Lockwood, discovers a spy perched in the tree outside his second floor window. A rival developer out for a little espionage. This time he'll take matters into his own hands.
Rescuing MaryJo is a breath of fresh air for the workaholic loner. Convincing the beautiful hacker that a hot, no-strings affair is better than a relationship may prove challenging. Because MaryJo has rules. Specifically, a seven-date-rule. When corporate espionage morphs into threats against MaryJo, they will battle a faceless enemy bent on destruction. At his company . . . or MaryJo's life.
OUT ON A LIMB is about accepting yourself-- and remaining true to your beliefs, no matter what everyone else thinks. MaryJo Mullaney has always considered herself only average. Best friend to too many guys, she's given up on finding the one. Happy with who she is, she's accepted a life as 'favorite aunt' and cat mom. Until she falls for Travis-- literally.

An excellent book to read that is well written about Travis and Maryjo's journey through life as they grow together and battle past heartaches. This is a lighthearted and romantic romance with jealousy, computer hacking, software development, danger and steamy scenes. As the first book I have read by this author I will be reading many more when possible. I received this book from Ebook Discovery and I am voluntarily giving an honest review.
The opening chapter of Out on a Limb was hilarious, however this book wasn't always light-hearted and romantic. Dysfunctional geeks find each other in the midst of an icy storm and a flame is ignited. MaryJo is somewhat klutzy as she bumbles through life, her height and clumsiness creating disasters along the way. About the only time she is really comfortable is in front of her computer, or on a voluntary stake-out with her dad, or playing sport. She is everyone's friend but she doesn't have anyone who cares intimately for her. Travis on the other hand, expects everyone to take from him and then to destroy him. In MaryJo he finds acceptance and despite his scepticism, she appears to like him for himself. However, in the background there are people who are out to destroy Travis, and will destroy MaryJo too, if it means annihilating him. I found the thread of the story difficult to follow as it jumped around somewhat and there were also gaps in the narrative. Both Patrice's motivation for her attack on Travis and her eventual demise were not handled well, leaving the reader to make assumptions, which left me feeling dissatisfied. I felt frustrated with Travis and the way in which he blew hot and cold, but MaryJo was a loveable character with a quirky sense of fun. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. This is my first book by this author and I absolutely loved the book and I will definitely be reading more written by her. 4.5 stars. This was an emotional love story that made me laugh and cry as the characters grew. The characters felt real, the story line believable and a HEA. "I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. Finally! A well-written novel with minimal issues! Definitely worth a second read!
Finally! A well-written novel with minimal issues! Definitely worth a second read!
Augh! When will people learn you don’t try to rescue cats from trees?! Yes, the age-old contender for One Thousand Ways to Die. But it did hook me into this novel at the get-go, and I could not stop reading until I reached the end.
Length: Shorter novel.
Psychology of the interpersonal conflict: Right on the nose. This story’s complications are the fruits of either an emotionally abusive or excessively strict/incommunicative parent. Try thrusting two individuals thus afflicted…. well, there are plenty of walls and masks to deal with. This is probably one of the few novels in which I learned a little more about what can happen in man’s head who, in order to survive, has to stop feeling altogether. As a woman… well, that mean’s I’m physically dead because I could never completely detach and lock up my emotions like that 24/7. Even hate would leak out and do terrible things to me. I totally appreciate that the author made sure to let the reader know that once the couple get together, *bing!* The Fairy Godmother just whacked you in the head, and all is well. No, it’s not. Not even close. There will always be that epiphany that begins the crack that eventually leads to the removal of impossible walls meant to entrap one’s “inappropriate” emotions, but it will take some time. But just the realization that change and redemption is important. She made this process entirely realistic and believable. Thank you, Lauren, very much.
Speed of Action: Very appropriate. No speed-ups or hurry-ups.
Predictability: Without revealing any spoilers, I knew who was the external conflict culprit early on… It was just the only logical outcome. I swear, I could not predict the emotional tennis game between Travis and MaryJo. At least this book didn’t suffer from the “Three’s Company” plot complication mechanation. I was really surprised by some of the royal zingers MaryJo hurled back at Travis… wow! I was taking notes.
Credibility issues: My ONLY issue I had was regarding iT security. I was wondering why someone hadn’t caught on… but the writer saved the situation at the very end without making it look like deus ex machina. But I do have one beef with the writer. What happened to our evil femme fatale and her evil henchmen?? Augh!
Grammatical and spelling errors: I didn’t find any obvious ones that made me stop and say: “Hey! This should had been taken care of!” God, did she actually have an editor on hand?? (Yay!)
Sexuality: Unlike other stories I’ve read over the past few months, this novel did not have the blow-by-blow descriptive in-and-out… God, such explicit, gratuitous sex can make one extremely jaded so that I would normally just skim over these parts now. If you’re reading this book for release, find some really steamy erotica. This isn’t it, yet it doesn't ignore it. I think anything more NR would taint the story.
Would I recommend buying this book? ABSOLUTELY YES!! I’d reread it in a heartbeat. This is a very well-written book that made the editor brain in my head go “ahhhhhh…” I wasn’t playing the role of an editor. I was able to read it for sheer enjoyment. I haven’t been able to do that in quite a while. I now feel compelled to read her other works.

Well written and enjoyable. Characters are well developed, be warned they each have deep wounds (a little dysfunctional) and are a little geeky. I enjoyed the fact that these characters grew together. Plenty of humorous moments as well. The mystery/suspense portion was not hard to solve, but kept the plot line moving steadily along. All-in-all, an enjoyable read.

There were too many inner ramblings and too many loose ends in the end for my taste. I liked the prequels a lot better, they were more balanced in regard to suspense and romance. I missed the suspense, there was hardly any, from the beginning I could tell who the culprit was.
An oversight by the author: if I remember correctly, Mrs Barnes was 58 years old in "Out of Reach" which was set one year before; so why is she in her sixties in this book?
I am SHOCKED that I liked this book. It was solely due to the wonderful main character (MaryJo) - and how atypical the relationship tension was in source. The writing was still stunted sometimes like the previous two books in the series, but there were far fewer technical flaws to distract. Would I read it again? No. Would I recommend it? Only to show as an example of what romance protagonists should be more often. Was I glad I read it? Yes.
First off I love maryjo (Mariela) she was sweet strong confident and every womAn should love themselves. Travis' treatment as a child from a narcissistic mother could have ruined their chances at love. The action in this story was slowly worked behind the scenes I wish Travis would have confronted his batteries betrayal Minor grammatical errors
I found this story a bit boring and thought there was too many inner dialogues focusing on insecurities. The relationship was quite a lot of back and forth. I'm glad MaryJo knew what she deserved and told Travis to stop playing games. Even if it was shortlived.
I love this series and am looking forward to her next book. It has a bit of everything in it. Humor, mystery and of course, romance. I would suggest this book to anyone who wants a light read.
My first book by Lauren Giordano. I really enjoyed the book and totally fell in love with the characters. A really good read. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
This was my first book by this author but it won’t be my last. It’s a delightful romance full of humor ,suspense, and steamy love scenes . From the first page it grabs you and reels you in. I liked the way that the author showed our past does not define us. While MaryJo and Travis’s story is the 3rd in this 3 book series and can be read alone, I look forward to reading the other 2 books. I received this book for free from ebook Discovery.
