Fantastic Second Novel of Ixian Prophecies Trilogy Third Coming This Month!
Scott Bartlett has actually improved on the first novel (which was excellent! ), in this second book. The conflicts are described in greater detail, although he manages to keep that great dialogue, which I compared to Elmore Leonard in a previous review. It is as if Bartlett is writing for the screen, or in this case, perhaps radio --since there are no illustrations.
This is a very good plot line, enhanced by Bartlett's great writing. I can't wait for the next volume, due in less than two weeks!

This is a really brilliant series that is a lot of fun, and a really exciting and interesting read.
I said in my review of ‘Supercarrier – Part 1’, that I thought this series had a lot of similarities to the reboot of BattleStar Galactica, and I still stick with that.
I also had a few comments about the quality of the dialogue in my review of ‘Supercarrier’, and it is was good to note that there was a subtle change in ‘Juggernaut’, that the characters matured, keeping their overall tone, but not quite as overdone as they were in the first book. This was definitely a better book.
The remnants of Humanity, fighting for their lives against hopeless odds, being pounded around the galaxy, looking for various bits and pieces to try and save themselves.
Only in this instance, there are multiple alien races. And thankfully some of them have decided to become allies with the humans.
In this particular episode, the President of the humans is basically in league with the Darktech industry, and so sets about trying to help them. As a result, she makes some horrendous decisions, and policy that leads to worse decisions.
UHF acts in a way that is beyond criminal, turning on their once allies, and in the middle of this Keyes decides he can stand for it no longer.
This is where other comparisons to BSG come in, the true integrity and moral fibre of the characters and crew of the Providence. Keyes in particular has so much in common with Adama, the two could be mirror images of each other. And it's what makes this series such a good read, the depth and character strength of each of the main characters that draws you to them, makes you follow them, and want to read the story into the late hours of the night.
‘Juggernaut’ is an exceptional sequel to ‘Supercarrier’, picking up almost straight away after the events of the first book. The characters are more developed and stronger in ‘Juggernaut’, the Author having had the chance to get to know them a bit more, and thus getting to explore them more in ‘Juggernaut’.
This also goes for the Aliens, and the Main Alien characters, in ‘Juggernaut’, we get a much greater in-depth view of both Fesky and Ek, but we also get to know more about Piper, the Tumbran from the short story ‘Traitor’, as well as the Gok. The aliens are a highlight of the series, each of them being so unique, bringing something rather amazing to the table. The individual Main characters are also wonderfully brilliant adding something special to the story.
The other thing that is touched on in this story thanks to the Aliens is the concept of discrimination. It's something that Bartlett does with a few issues, using his work to highlight these issues without making it either obvious, but it allows it to be a discussion point for readers. It is wonderfully clever.
Bartlett has subtly touched on a few topics in this series, such as mental health, discrimination etc, and it is very clever, letting you enjoy the series, and if you want, ponder these greater issues as well. It is a series that leaves you thinking after about some of the bigger issues in life and that is always a good thing.
Overall this is a brilliant sequel to an epic series and if you have read the first, then you have to read this!

The epic battle against the Ixa continues as well as a battle to deal with a corrupt UHF force under the thumb of a major corporation.
Great battles and well developed characters makes this a great tread.

Good elements, needs depth
The book is as good as the first. It presents a reasonable universe with a good collection of alien cultures that is far superior to most current science fiction. The human race is sadly portrayed in a very realistic way featuring the shortsighted, the unthinking, the desperate and the shamed. It's not a bad cast but the characters aren't three dimensional and the story doesn't leave a lot of room for development.
The military/naval action dominates this and the first book so much that it crowds out the important background developments in human and alien space. The social and political upheaval would be worth a book or two of its own. Too much importance seems attached to the head of the government, who can craft and pass legislation. The military leaders do respond the way that political generals/admirals do and all generals and admirals are political animals.
The battle tech and doctrine is confusing. Building an expensive attack craft carrier to use as a ramming vessel is odd, no matter the race. The loss of the Fins has an impact that would seem to have dictated that protecting their planet would have been priority number one. Carriers without a doctrine for long-range launch and recovery and no screening ships is a prescription for disaster. No ship can do everything but every ship can be destroyed.
The destroyer class as a big gun ship screened by cruisers is backward if current ship classes are being modeled. The absence of carriers, battleships (or some other ship of the line) and heavy cruisers (in the human fleet) makes it difficult to understand human war fighting doctrine.
The series has the beginnings of a solid skeleton but needs to be strengthened and more fully formed. Fleshing out the characters would put the series in the four star range at least.

Juggernaut is the second book of The Ixan Prophecies, written by Scott Bartlett, and narrated on audiobook by Mark Boyett. The writing style and the narration was exactly the same as with the previous book. It is quite well written, has nice dialogs, and plenty of well written action.
Compared to the previous book, this one is more action oriented, with a lot of very well written space battles, and less plot complexity. I did miss the latter, as the book felt somewhat more formulaic than the previous entry. While definitely not a bad book, I could have used a bit more exciting surprises, and for the mid part of the book, action was pretty much all there is. While the first book did set up the universe very nicely, and started plot threads and set up questions, there was very little of it in this one. It was pretty much just plot threat unraveling, with a single twist here and there, to keep the story going. In fact, there was so little extra plot threads introduced, that I am questioning how much ‘meat’ there can be left for book three? But the action was great, characters really well written, awesome alien species, and lots of political intrigue, so I’ll definitely also go for the third book in the series!
Audiobook narration was excellent as with the first book. Boyett does a really exceptional job, and he has to be one of the best narrators I’ve heard.
If you enjoyed the first book in the series, then you will definitely also like this one!

Juggernaut is the second book in The Ixan Universe Series (The Ixan Prophecies #1) by Scott Bartlett. This universe took me on a wild space opera with high-stakes, space warfare, political intrigue, and adrenaline-pumping action. Across the interconnected books, Mr. Bartlett crafts a galaxy that feels incredibly vast and yet ‘lived-in’, where every battle has consequences and every decision carries weight.
The balance between the cinematic space combat with the quieter, character-driven moments pulled me in and had me invested - I really cared about the stories and the people behind the starships. The characters are flawed yet compelling, often forced into impossible choices that test their loyalty, morality, and resilience. Mr. Bartlett’s knack for military strategy and believable sci-fi tech adds an extra layer of intrigue, as well as a layer of authenticity - while his sharp dialogue kept the tension alive even outside of battle scenes.
The overarching narrative is ambitious, weaving together multiple plotlines that gradually converge into a satisfying, high-impact climax. While the series delivers plenty of adrenaline-pumping action, it also explores themes of trust, sacrifice, and the cost of survival in a universe where hard-won peace is fragile.
Definitely one you won’t want to miss if you enjoy military sci-fi with a strong emotional core – it has 'Battlestar Galactica' meets 'The Expanse' kind of vibes.

Oh no! Climate change is going to destroy the universe!
Despite the inflated Goodreads ratings, the book (the whole series really) is thin, lazy, and very poor hack writing. Very disappointed...
It contains only one dimensional characters, no physical descriptions of pretty much anything (for a series with books literally named after the type of vessel involved, it is comical that no detailed description of it is ever given!)
I still have no idea what sort of physical size, color, material, or layout the ships or planets have, how the weapon systems are meant to work, or what the capabilities are. The characters are given no description other than human, avian, fish, or lizard. That is how unengaging and matter-of-fact the writing is. Zero style or subtlety.
I read scifi for escapism and interesting concepts about uncommon or impossible things so I couldn't even derive anything from the overall message if I wished to overlook everything else.
If, as the author, you're not even going to try for an interesting scifi political message then why not just call the antagonist "Trump", write a modern revenge fantasy, and be done with it? I can just get the content of your entire story from CNN.
Readers deserve better military scifi and the genre has lately been generally abysmal. We are never going to get quality if stuff like this continues to be so highly rated.

The story begins with a look at the uneasy alliance that has developed between the Humans, Wingers, and Fins. The story picks up immediately after the events of Supercarrier.
This book also has some good quotes:
“When we aren’t blinded by greed or lust, humans are incredible specimens.”
“They’d elected her president, and so now the public needed to step aside and allow her to rule the Commonwealth, no questions asked.”
The depravity of the Commonwealth and the just how evil President Hurst is fleshed out. And Captain Keyes makes a bold move to fight against their evil government. What starts as a mission to build their fleet quickly has the crew deeply intrenched in the affairs of the Gok. The reason for the berserker tendencies of the Gok is explained and if the Providence doesn’t respond it would mean the annihilation of the human race.
Roughly half way through the book the civil war between the UHF and those humans and wingers who are appalled by their evil deeds begins.
We also get to see the crew of the Firedrake, Husher’s previous command, but will they be friend or foe?
This book does a good job at world/universe building. Expect some shocking death scenes and genocide on global scales.

Okay, I must admit -- after reading JUGGERNAUT, I immediately purchased and read RECKONING. Couldn't stand it. I HAD to know how it ended. So with that out of the way--A supernova. Something not to have thought possible in their lifetime. But here was Epsilon Leonis, hurtling towards Campion, the home of Earth inhabitants since Earth had been utterly destroyed. Captain Keyes, Lieutenant Vin Husher, Festy, and the rest of the faithful crew of The Providence are faced again with danger from the enemy -- known and now some unknown. Captain Warren Husher, Vin's father presumed killed in the First Galactic War, is found alive after being held captive with the Ixan. He's back and has disturbing things to share. Are the Prophecies coming true? Are they even real? Is Warren Husher telling the truth, or is he a spy for the Ixan? JUGGERNAUT is as action packed as SUPERCARRIER, you won't be able to set it down!

The Adventure Continues !
The Ixan Prophecies Trilogy
Is an awesome futuristic space war adventure story !
Juggernaut is exactly my expectations from book 2 of a trilogy, the author gives us everything and more.
We get the same beautiful universe, wars, aliens, and a perfect roadway to book 3 including some very interesting twists which some will complete reveling themselves only on the next book.
The nice thing about Juggernaut is that you don’t feel like you picked up a new book, it continues from the end of the first book ( Supercarrier ) perfectly unlike others that force us to fill in the gaps between books.
Truly their is not a dull moment, it’s all action, a real adventure getting you prepared for Reckoning the last book and the ending of this adventure.
The performance was perfect
The story is great,
There is nothing else I’D want from a book !

Half decent story with characters that struggle through issues and persevere despite them.
My main issue with this book is a selfish one. In Science fiction there are very few black characters. Usually they are in the background, and when not in the background they tend to be used as cannon fodder to highlight the other characters that are more important to the author. This book is no exception.
The only established black character in this story gets humiliated, literally stripped naked and tortured. Does he get any agency or an arc to get himself justice? No. He stays put and waits for the white character to show up and save him, then the book ends. Your milage may vary, but I'd like more out of a book than just more black torture porn without them getting any payoff for all of the humiliation. I had a feeling it would end this way early on in the book but I gave the author the benefit of the doubt and kept going. That was a mistake.

This novel is mostly a huge space battle as the supercarrier from the first book, together with alien allies gained at the end of the last book, attempts to keep the increasingly draconian human fleet from destroying them. While this is happening a peaceful rebellion by retired armed forces men and women is happening on many of the human core worlds. The whole novel builds towards a conflict between the authoritarian warmongers and the peaceful protestors. There isn’t much subtlety here. The bad guys are very bad—and of course, misguided, because they are paving the way (unknowingly) for the really bad aliens to wipe out all other sentient life in the universe.
I didn’t think this book was as strong as the first novel, but if you like space battles it has those aplenty.

Caveat: I was bribed by the author with a free copy of this book. But only because I had written him with some issues concerning Supercarrier. The author responded and responded nicely.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it did start out a little slow but once it picked speed it never slowed down. There was a lot more information in this book regarding the universe and the characters. It answers a lot of questions while asking a few more. There are enough twists and turns in the book to keep you from putting it down. The ending is unexpected and yet expected at the same time. I am off to get my copy of Reckoning.

It answers a lot of questions while asking a few more. There are enough twists and turns in the book to keep you from putting it down. The ending is unexpected and yet expected at the same time. I am off to get my copy of Reckoning.

I think Keyes is my favorite character. I also really like Fesky. Lt. Hushers character growth is interesting; it's hard to imagine him as a captain because he seems to behave like a lieutenant. He tends to be impulsive and quick to action. It's nice to see him growing up a bit.
There are a whole host of other characters that I'm growing to love. I think when this series is over I'm going to miss them.
As for the plot, it is rolling along and the space battles are excellent. Watching it all play out is such fun.
And Mark Boyett is fantastic. I really like him in most every book he does.

SB. has. penned a second SYFY. novel, the second in the IP. series, where the intrepid crew of the Providence have recognized the true enemy, but have been unable to convince the Department of the Navy that they have chosen to fight an ally as opposed to the Real threats. The IP. Are returning with a vengence. That want revenge for an earlier defeat by the humans. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

An engrossing tale with the second installment being great!
I’ve really enjoyed this tale so far and look forward to the third installment. Scott Bartlett’s characters hav depth enough to keep me in the story without concern for what’s going on around me. I have slowly become a participant instead of an observer, and I can actually visualize chasing around the Providence as we travel the galaxy in adventure after adventure. If you enjoy SciFi as much as so do, don’ miss this series. I guaranty you will become addicted to his storytelling.

Juggernaut, The Ixan ... Book 2
I chose 5 stars, because, this story is very, very good. The Species are well thought out. The characters are awesome, both, the good and the bad. The space battles are interesting and exciting since, apparently, I rock faster when I'm engaged in a battle. Mr. Bartlett's books are great for any type of sy-fier. There is plenty of science for people who like it and for those of us who know little to nothing we still enjoy it.

I enjoyed book 1 in this series (Supercarrier) and thought this book was even better. The author continued to develop his universe and we received some back story on parts of this universe. I liked that the author also continued to develop the characters, with primary and secondary. A couple of characters that were secondary in book 1 got some time in this one, which further developed one of the plots. I’ve bought the 3rd book in the series.

A good read
Scott Bartlett has crafted a good story with well developed characters. A classic tale of a government corrupted by powerful a powerful corporation that leaves it’s citizens vulnerable to attack all for power and profit.
The true patriots that resist are labeled as traitors as they become the last defenders of humanity.

Almost didn't finish
While the story moves forward it becomes bogged down with politics and side stories. Several chapters I barely skimmed waiting for the story to get back on track.
If you read the first this one gets you to the third but wasn't a fun read I almost put it down more than once.

I enjoyed this one even more than Supercarrier. I'm a sucker for massive space battles, and this book doesn't disappoint on that front. The story has kept me engaged the entire time. I'm headed straight into the 3rd book because I need to know how things wind up.
Again, I listened to the audiobook version and the narration is great.

This is one of those series that is so hard to review. On the face of it, I should love it. However, I’m finding it hard to really care for the characters or the plot. I’m prepared to conclude it’s me at fault; but the inescapable truth; as final as the prophecies themselves, it I simply don’t care. Your mileage, of course; may vary!

Another great read
Non stop action. You get angry, you will get depressed, you will sigh, you will cheer. This book is immersive. From battle to battle, avoiding corrupt politicians, and idiots that only follow orders, or those that only listen to their own discrimination, instead of looking outwards at societies in general. Will the good guys prevail?

Another action packed novel that is highly intense and immersive. It is not rich in character development but the one that is in the book sufficient enough to make you attach yourself to personalities described in the book. The book is a great choice for casual fantasy lovers although might be too simplistic for more geek readers of the genre.

Vin Gusher and Captain Keyes along with his father Warren Gusher face off against the Goo and Wingers who they ally themselves with to fight the pending I can attack. It will be interesting to see what happens.

A great continuation of the last book!
Very much like reading these from Scott Bartlett, he makes them quite believable, and very slowly shows you back story on the characters, and doesn't dump them all on you at once.
Highly recommended!

An enjoyable continuation of the Ixan Prophecies
Having read the first Ixan Prophecies book Supercarrier, I found this second book a very enjoyable continuation of the story. I can recommend it wholeheartedly.

Great second part in the series.
