This won Book of the Month on my blog for September 2017:

Wow! I loved, loved, loved this book!

The Cosy Canal Boat Dream is a wonderful story set in the close-knit community of Little Rock marina. It is filled with a wonderful mix of fabulous characters that came to life in front of my eyes. For the last two days I have absolutely loved being a part of this wonderful community and I don’t feel ready to leave yet. Take me back! I miss my new friends!

This is a story of loss, grief, secrets, lies, guilt, family, ambition, but most of all, that of love and hope.

I had tears in my eyes numerous times. At one point I was crying sad tears, followed by happy tears within minutes of each other. Sometimes my heart ached, but more frequently I found myself smiling at my Kindle.

I can’t believe a couple of days ago, I almost talked myself out of reading this, as I don’t read much romance, and having read three Christmas books recently, I was worried this would seem too similar, and I’d fail to enjoy it as much as I should. However, having loved three previous books by this author, I talked myself into reading it, as a part of myself knew I’d love it, regardless of what other books I've read recently.

This is the cosiest book I’ve read all year. Having lost my grandad thirteen days ago, I’ve been feeling really sad, but this book felt like pure escapism from the real world. This story wrapped me up in a soft warm snuggly blanket and for two days it made me feel safe and happy. For that alone, this book deserves 5 stars!

The Cosy Canal Boat Dream is now my favourite book by this author, which takes some doing considering Lizzie’s Christmas Escape made it into my Top Ten Books read in 2016 out of 125 books read last year.

I’m now torn between wishing I’d read this sooner, and wishing I hadn’t read it yet so I had it to look forward to. I’m already slightly jealous of those who still have this story to look forward to. This definitely comes very highly recommended by me.

An enjoyable, feel good and cute delightful read, full of romance, friendship, family secrets and lots of yummy food.

Nell Andrews lives on a longboat called the "Nollie" that's moored in the lovely Little Rock Marina, with small boutiques, coffee shops and the Waterfront Pub all adorning the jetty. The Nollie is named after herself and her late husband Ollie, who died in an accident two years ago. She works in The Melting Pot, her best friends - Bea's - delicatessen and has been trying to mend her broken heart. Bea lives nearby in a cottage with her husband Nathan and Jacob, her five year old son, and her Mum Gilly lives a short way up the tow path in Bluebell Cottage where Nell grew up.

Nell's life takes a sudden change when she's almost knocked over by a dog, which belongs to the gorgeous Guy Cornish. Guy is over from Ireland to lend his brother, Ed, who owns the boatyard a hand. Nell and Guy start spending more time together when she sees the Old Picture House is up for auction. She decides to buy it so she can restore the old cinema back to a place the entire community can enjoy once again, with Guy advising her on restoration costs. Everyone is really pleased that Nell has a project she can immerse herself in and make her smile again. Only her mother seems really opposed to her buying the cinema, but she won't disclose the reason why.

Everything seems to be going along perfectly. That is until Nell discovers there's another reason why Guy is over from Ireland, and it's not just to help his brother while he recovers from an operation... Meanwhile a mystery new boat has turned up in the marina called "Much Ado About Nothing", that seems to be making Nell's mum act slightly out of character. Will Nell be able to find out why Gilly is acting strange, and be able to buy the Picture House and stop it falling into the hands of greedy housing developers. Or are her dreams going to be dashed once again?

This book gave me a real feeling of warmth, with just the right amount of coziness. There's a nice mix of characters that you can't help but warm to, and an entertaining plot with a number of sub plots that weave in and out of different people's lives. The story mainly revolves around Nell, but also touches on the lives of her mother Ginny and best friend Bea, who owns The Melting Pot delicatessen where Nell works. There's also a host of fabulous supporting characters from in and around the marina.

I loved the setting of the book being a marina that's home to long boats, it's slightly different to the usual village or coastal cottage. If you love books with lots of descriptions of food then this is the book for you. The Melting Pot is where a lot of the action takes place, meaning there's lots of yummy food mentioned - hot chocolate, savouries, speciality cheeses, flapjacks, homemade lemonade, bakes, hot potatoes, chocolate brownies, soup, sausage rolls, sandwiches, cream meringues, baguettes, pies, scones, pasties, danish pastries, deli bowls and scrumptious homemade cakes.

Everything is tied up nicely in the latter part of the book. Some people might find the predictability of this type of book a little too much, but this was just the kind of book I wanted to read, so I loved how everything wound up at the end. If I wasn't in the mood for a feel good book, then I would have steered clear of a book like this, but I wanted predictability. So if you aren't looking for this right now, then keep this book on your shelf for a read at another time.

There was so much in this book to enjoy - romance, heartache, secrets, friendship, and lots of scrumptious food. Perfect if you're looking for a fun, feel good, chick lit, rom com kind of read.

Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the opportunity to read this ARK in return for an honest and unbiased review.

When I pick up a Christie Barlow book I feel like I’m getting a warm hug from an old friend. They’re always warm and cozy, this one even has cozy in the title! So I already knew I was in for a treat when I started this one but I wasn’t aware that I was about to read my new favorite Barlow book.

Nell was the type of character that I liked right away, she has an incredibly painful past, somehow I was teary eyed in the first chapter?! But she was a woman who I immediately felt a connection with, I was invested in her from the first page. She has a best friend named Bea and their friendship was so sweet and genuine. Bea’s family was also adorable and so supportive of Nell which she desperately needed. The entire cast of characters were lovely and had their own distinctive personalities that made up a great community, I would love to live in a place like Little Rock Marina!

Guy is Nell’s love interest and there was a bit of a mystery surrounding his past and there was also an additional mystery that threw me for a loop. You basically get a little bit of everything here, there’s romance, humor, warmth, family secrets and a lovely setting that serves as a backdrop. This was such a delightful read, I enjoyed every single page and it reminded me why Barlow is one of my favorite women’s fiction writers.

I really enjoyed this book, it was a pleasant, light read and just what I needed to read right now.

Nell Andrews has been through the wringer a bit; she lost the love of her life and her mother is acting strangely, but otherwise she is happy living on her narrow boat and working with her best friend Bea. Then Guy Cornish, a charming Irishman, comes into her life. He is lovely, and he makes her feel things she hasn't felt in a while but is he too good to be true? All will be revealed when you read this book!

I found that this book had a few extra twists and turns from the standard chick lit, but it is still a PG rated book, and that was really nice, actually. I felt like I was getting to know the characters who lived at the marina quite well by the end of the book, and the author did a great job of the characterisations.

This is a recommended read from me, 4.5 stars :)

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. Thank you to NetGalley and HarperImpulse.

Without a doubt my favourite Christie Barlow book of all time. From the prologue that hooked me in and gave me such a clear picture of the Little Rock Marina, to the instant familiarity I felt with the characters and the overall cosy and warm feelings I got from the book, made this a story I adored reading.

Two years on from the sudden death of her husband, Nell is slowly trying to get more of a grip on her life. Things really start to change when an opportunity comes up for her to follow a dream and set up a project in her late husbands memory.

However Gilly seems to be really opposed to the potential project, and there is a large mystery surrounding this. Whereas best friend Bea is all for it, as is new man about the marina Guy and his adorable dog Sam. Guy is very easy on the eye, and he has a very welcoming manner. Guy and Nell hit it off very fast and I felt as though I was a fly on the wall watching their initial encounters.

Two of my favourite characters were Sam the dog, who is utterly adorable, but also shows some great doggy instincts at times, and also Jacob, Bea's son. who is a cute 5 year old, who comes out with some great lines, and is such a likeable child.

The friendship between Bea and Nell is great, as is Bea's deli which serves delicious food. They have known each other forever and really have each others back. And yet as the book progresses various aspects of their back stories become known which completely threw me.

I would love to see Little Rock Marina used as a setting for future books, as its a great sounding place to live. The warm fuzzy feeling I felt from reading The Cosy Canal Boat Dream is similar to the feeling I get from Katie Fforde's books - its a feeling like I'm coming home and also receiving a big hug from the book, which is the best was I can sum it up.

The author's typical sense of humour is present as is the great writing style that I have come to expect from her books. I truly thought this to be a fabulous book that as I progressed with my reading of it, I became more and more loathe to put it down, and in fact was surprised by just how quick I devoured it. The Cosy Canal Boat Dream is the sort of book that will warm you up from the inside and perfect for when you want to be lost in a cuddle of a book!

Thanks you to Christie Barlow for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I am a huge fan of the authors novels and have been waiting as patiently as I could for her new novel. Well it’s finally here!

I absolutely adored the setting for this story. It was so picturesque and loved the main character living on a canal boat. I’m not quite sure if I could live on one full time but I really loved the small community feel of the people that lived and worked there.

Apart from one character who was self centered who I didn’t like, but then you arn’t supposed to, there really is an amazing cast of characters. The author has a knack of creating truly wonderful characters that are so realistic and ones you wish you had in your real life.

Nell and Bea were without a doubt my favourite. The relationship between these two friends was so heartwarming. Both are going through personal challenges but they are still very much tuned into each other and are there to offer support.

I don’t want to go into the story to much as I think it is best left to be fully discovered by new readers for themselves. What I will say is that this is the most enchanting and heartwarming of novels. The author has created a wonderful place that instantly transports the reader to and has you feeling like one of the locals. By the end of the story the characters in Little Rock Marina were all firm friends and I have to say I am going to miss them. I really hope the author makes this into a bit of a series as would love to go back and catch up with them soon.

The Cosy Canal Boat Dream is a heartwarming, and at times emotional read that will totally capture your heart. There are lots of little surprises in store and it definitely left me feeling all snug and warm inside. Highly recommended.

My thanks to Netgalley and Harper Impulse for an advanced readers copy of the book. All opinions are my own and not in anyway.

As soon as I knew Christie Barlow was setting her new book on a canal boat, I knew I had to read it. I adore living near the canal and often walk my dog past the canal boats, my curiosity making up stories about the people who live in them as I do! We even have a Folk and Boat festival nearby which attracts an even bigger influx of the most intricately painted and detailed boats, all celebrated in a weekend of fun, food and frivolity! So I couldn’t wait to see how Christie brought her marina to life and what an AMAZING job she did! I just wanted to go there and drink hot chocolate in The Melting Pot as I soaked up the charming atmosphere of Little Rock marina.

I must start by saying that Christie Barlow always has THE BEST covers and a move to Harper Impulse hasn’t dulled her sparkle. This cover is just glorious and will no doubt be right up there in my top rated of 2017. As will this book! I have loved all Christies books so far but this one is on a different level! Likeable and relatable characters are pushed to their emotional limits in a plot that had me in tears far more than I was expecting! I had so much empathy for the affable Nell and the twists and turns in her life delivered the full emotional spectrum as I shared in her highs and lows. There was an ample supporting cast of quirky and interesting characters who felt convincing and genuine-honestly you are going to want to believe you can go and visit this marina!

This is definitely Christie Barlows best book so far. Her captivating and beautifully written plot managed to make me sob out loud (I mean, real snotty tears were shed by me!!) and then leave me with an overwhelming feeling of loss by the time I realised that it was all over! I do like to think though that Little Rock marina still lives on in some parallel universe somewhere and that one day I will get to go there again. Highly recommended by me!

If you are looking for a book to read that’s not your usual run of the mill Rom Com then look no further, than The Cosy Canal Boat Dream, it’s a highly entertaining read, but it also has so much more to offer, it certainly made for an emotional read so a word of warning have the tissues at the ready! I’m going to say this is definitely Christie Barlow’s best book yet and made for a highly entertaining and emotional read.

Nell Andrew’s appears to have the perfect life she’s living the dream on a boat with the love of her life Ollie, but when he is killed in an accident all Nell’s hopes and dreams for the future are left in tatters. As she struggles to cope with her grief life takes an unexpected turn when an Irishman and a disused cinema come into her life. What follows is a heartwarming tale filled with bittersweet moments. My emotions were all over the place whilst reading this novel, there are so many sensitive and tear jerking scenes in this novel one minute I would find myself laughing uncontrollably and the next minute I would find myself sobbing into a tissue as I reached yet another poignant scene in this charming tale.

What I adore about Christie Barlow’s writing is that she has a knack of bringing her characters to life, friendship and humour play a big part in this novel and you can’t help but become attached to Nell, best friend Bea and the adorable Jacob who despite only being five has a big personality. The author’s characters are so credible and endearing, as usual I was left feeling bereft when I reached the last page of The Cosy Canal Boat Dream, as I’ve said in previous reviews for Christie Barlow’s books I always feel I’m saying “goodbye” to new found friends.

Christie Barlow is able to turn a Rom Com into something much more, yes there’s laughs aplenty, but she also draws on real life issues and writes about them with sensitivity, you can’t help but become involved in each characters story. In my opinion Christie Barlow is one of the best writers in this genre her books are like a breath of fresh and yes they make me emotional, but ultimately they make for a heartwarming and “feel good” read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a Rom Com with that extra special something.

I really enjoyed this book and was really sad when it was over!

I thoroughly enjoyed delving into the world of Nell living on her longboat, the Nollie and her best friend Bea who owned the local deli. Add in a handsome Irish man and you have the beginnings of a great book.

The storyline kept me captivated and added in spanners in the works as in real life, things don't always run smoothly or how you expect them to go.

I really hope there is a sequel to this book as I feel there are some other characters that can definitely be explored a bit further.

A lovely warm book with characters that you quickly fall in love with.

Highly recommended from me!

Canal Boat - check.
Beautiful Setting - check.
Endearing characters - check.
Cafe - check.

And there we go! That's how easy it can be to write a book I thoroughly enjoy and highly recommend!!!

In this story we are introduced to Nell who had the perfect life, living in her dream home - a canal boat - in the idyllic setting of the Little Rock Marina, with her husband Ollie. And then Ollie never comes home one evening after going out for a motorbike ride and her life is devastated.

We rejoin her 2 years later as she tries to move on but the loss is still hard for her to take. She has a wonderful support network around her and that includes her best friend Bea who runs the local cafe where she works part time. Bea is married to Nathan and they have the cutest son, Jacob, who brings a smile to everyone he meets!

And then things change! A handsome stranger comes into Nells' life and there is an instant connection and life starts to look up again for Nell! And then an opportunity to recreate some memories from her past with a new business venture appears on the horizon - is everything finally beginning to look up for Nell?!

I loved all the characters that we get to meet in this story. They all have such warm personalities that you can't help but fall instantly in love with them, and wish them all their own happy endings! The setting was perfect and really added to the community feel of the book. And alongside Nell and her story, the story of Bea and her family was also one that was really had me hooked as a reader and I really felt part of the community as their stories were told.

The perfect summer read!!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for my copy in return for a fair and honest review.

The Cosy Canal Boat Dream in my opinion has to be the most perfect book ever! I loved every single page of it.

As soon as I seen the cover for this book I knew it was definitely a book I would love, it is just so magical.

I was in absolute tears reading the prologue it was packed with emotion. Literally a page in and I could not put the book down I found myself really attached to Nell and her story.

Nell has had a tough time recently after a tragic accident and the only thing keeping her going is Nollie her canal boat. She has it really beautifully decorated inside and it is her pride and joy.

After she receives a letter in the post informing her she has received a lump sum of money Nell's dream project comes onto the market and gives her the opportunity of a lifetime and something she can really focus on. Everyone is delighted that Nell has something to be happy about and has finally put the smile back on her face, however Gilly Nell's mother puts a downer on it and seems really against the idea, we don't find out what her secret is till near the end of the book.

Another thing that catches Nell's eye is Mr Guy Cornish, a dreamy Irish Hunk. They both click from the minute they meet and its certain that something is bound to happen between them, and as a reader it makes you feel really happy knowing Nell is being able to move on and enjoy her life again after the heartbreak she has suffered previously. Guy seems like her knight in shining armor, but its clear he is hiding something.

I really enjoyed the pace of the book and the story is just so heart warming, you definitely need to have the tissues on stand by.

The Cosy Canal Boat Dream is definitely Christie Barlow's best yet!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!! What a prologue!!!! I have never, ever read such a captivating, intriguing, and more-ish prologue before…until now. I’m not even overreacting – it really is THAT good.

Having read Christie Barlow’s previous novel (Evie’s Year of Taking Chances) and personally dubbing it as my most favourite book that she has written, Christie Barlow had unknowingly set the bar for her new novel extremely high.

In ‘The Cosy Canal Boat Dream’, we follow the life of Nell Andrews – a character whose life has had more emotional turbulence than an episode of Eastenders. It didn’t take me long to form a connection with Nell as I found her to be such a warming and genuine character, who was screaming out to be loved and understood.

A Christie Barlow novel wouldn’t be complete without a bit of eye-candy. Well helloooooo Mr.Guy! Whilst he certainly made his presence known, the storyline wasn’t governed by his flirtatious nature or the attraction between himself and Nell. Don’t get me wrong, Guy was a large part of the overall storyline, yet he wasn’t the main focus. In my opinion, the way in which Christie Barlow puts romance in the storyline as an addition to it as opposed to the main focus, is what makes her stand out as an author. Christie Barlow gives the main character a voice and a start to their journey before she introduces a love-match to the mix. I love reading chic-lit/romance novels but, seeing as I am the most unromantic person ever, having love stories eased into the storyline at a comfortable pace suits me down to the ground. I also LOVE how kick-ass Christie Barlow’s protagonists are! Such independent, self-aware, fiery characters who end up becoming one of my literary role models long before the end of the book.

Romance aside, ‘The Cosy Canal Boat Dream’ contains a lot more than a lovers happy ever after. Obviously I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll be as vague as I can, but, Nell Andrews has her heart set on a new life. As far as Nell is concerned, she’s done all of her homework, put pen to paper and created a plan – all without trying to think too much with her heart and less with her brain. As we all know with dreams, they can take a heck of a lot of blood, sweat and tears before showing signs of coming true, and unfortunately Nell learns that the hard way. Luckily for us readers though, Nell’s situation is enough to stop you in your tracks, leaving your mouth wide enough to catch flies. Did I see it coming? Did I heck! Did it leave my mouth open wide enough to catch flies? It was open wide, yes. As for the flies it was a close call!

If you could get paper cuts from a kindle, I should be covered in them now from changing the pages of this book rather quickly. I’d be lying if I said that I could put this book down. I would also be lying if I said that I wanted to put it down! Errrrrrrr no. I had to physically prise my kindle out of my own hands once the book had finished.

I loved the depth of this book as the author had managed to fill the storyline with so many entwining situations, yet merged them utterly seamlessly. Everything just flowed, and every single character had a right to be there (and no, I actually didn’t dislike any of the characters either!).

So, what DOES TWG think? It’s safe to say that ‘The Cosy Canal Boat Dream’ stole my heart and never gave it back. I fell in love with the setting. The characters. The overall feel of the book. Just…everything. Full of emotion, heart-warming moments, and envious friendships, ‘The Cosy Canal Boat Dream’ for me, ticked every single box and then some. It takes a really special author to be able to make you laugh and well up, both at the same time, yet Christie Barlow managed it yet again. I really have no idea how she does it, but she does.

I loved this book with all of my heart, and I truly feel that ‘The Cosy Canal Boat Dream’ is Christie Barlow’s best book yet. Such a phenomenal and beautifully written novel.

‘The Cosy Canal Boat Dream’ is full of joy, making memories, true friendships, and dreams – the perfect combination for a Christie Barlow novel. Once again the author has set the bar for her next novel extremely high, and once again I cannot WAIT to see what Christie Barlow comes up with next.

One of my most favourite authors of all time – without a doubt.

Huge thanks to the author and HarperImpulse.

OMG....what a book, I read this in two sittings as was so disappointed when it was over, most definitely a book hangover with this one! I've not read any of Christie Barlow's books before (although I have purchased them and they are sitting on the kindle waiting....the story of my TBR!) but I will definitely be rectifying that!

I warmed to Nell Andrews immediately; she has had a tough couple of years and the prologue gave me a lump in my throat from the emotion which connected me to her from the outset. Nell lives on 'The Nollie' on the Little Rock Marina which sounds like a fabulous canal boat to be living on. Her lifelong best friend Bea, owns the local deli, The Melting Pot, which Nell works in. As well as being best friends with Bea, Nell is extremely close to Bea's husband Nathan and their five-year-old son Jacob - it is lovely how much they all look out and look after Nell. Working with Bea has helped Nell move forward during her tough couple of years but she wants more, a project to get her teeth into and to find herself, to truly live again.

The charming Irishman, Guy Cornish, arrives at Little Rock Marina and Nell literally bumps into his gorgeous red setter, Sam. From this moment on, Guy whisks Nell off her feet but there is something he's not sharing. I loved Guy....actually I loved all the characters in this book...but have a soft spot for Guy as he was so genuine, caring and honest (despite his secret which I actually felt sorry for him for)! The Cosy Canal Boat Dream is so many different things; it's about Nell moving on and following her dreams, friendship, family, secrets....all mixed together with a bit of humour. I absolutely adored this book and all its characters - I was most definitely rooting for Nell throughout.

Christie Barlow's writing is fabulous, the setting of this book is beautiful and there is such attention to detail regarding locations and sub-characters. There is such a warmth to her writing with characters sharing their thoughts and emotions that felt very real and that could be easily related to. The characters felt like friends by the end - I'd love to live in the Little Rock Marina, work in one of the local establishments and hang out with Nell, Bea and the gang!

Whilst reading this book I laughed and I cried - I truly hope this is not the last we see of the Little Rock Marina as I am already missing the atmosphere and the fabulous characters that bring the marina alive.

Highly recommended - one of my favourites of 2017.

This is a sweet, poignant and uplifting story - Nell and Guy will capture your heart, without a doubt! The Little Rock Marina is a very supportive little community and you will also find yourself wishing you could simply pop along to while away an afternoon there. I'd love to visit Bea's deli/cafe, The Melting Post, and sample one of her cakes. There are enough surprises to keep you reading late into the night (as I did) because it's all about turning hopes into dreams. Fun, jaw-dropping at times and on several occasions - if you are a romantic like me - you will be reaching for the tissues. Beautifully written and will leave you with a BIG smile on your face!

I really enjoyed The Cosy Canal Boat Dream by Christie Barlow. I've read books by his author before so knew this one would also be fantastic.

It follows the story of Nell, she's struggled the last few years and sought sanctuary in her canal boat the 'Nollie' and from her best friend Bea. Then she finds a way to follow her dream and also meets Guy Cornish. He has his own reasons for being at the marina but also has his own secrets.

This book is beautifully written and I was drawn in from the first page. Fantastic characters all add to this book and I look forward to reading more more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Impulse and the author for the chance to review.

Having already published Evie's Year of Taking Chances back in March of this year I wasn't expecting another book from Christie Barlow quite so soon so I was delighted to see that The Cosy Canal Boat Dream was to be published this month. Despite the few snowflakes on the cover don't be fooled into thinking that this is a Christmas book and therefore can only be read around that time, it can be read any time of year as although part of the book does take place in winter it's not a major focus.

The Cosy Canal Boat Dream was another gorgeous read from Christie that I settled into very easily and within a few chapter I found the setting of Little Rock Marina had really gotten under my skin. Admittedly the book had quite a sad opening as our main female character Nell Andrews is coming to terms with the loss of her husband, the man whom she had so many plans with, the love of her life Ollie. As we met Nell she is scattering his ashes in a place that meant to much to them. I instantly felt Nell's heartbreak, desperation and anger that life had changed so abruptly and irrevocably. She believed they were the perfect pair and they would always be together enjoying life on their narrow-boat the Nollie but a motorbike accident put paid to all that and she has to come to terms with a life she never expected to have to cope with.

We then move forward two years and it's time for Nell to start living again. No one expects or wants her to go crazy and radially change her life, nor to forget Ollie but now may be the time when she can move on bit by bit with her life and see what the future has in store for her. I enjoyed how the first few pages gave us a brief intro into Nell's life and what head-space she was in. I think if the story had continued on from that point it would have been very different and maybe just too soon for what happens to Nell and in my mind it would have been unrealistic for so much change to happen so rapidly. So it was lovely to see time had elapsed before the story began proper and we got to know the various characters. Throughout it I felt Nell never got over her grief as such as I don't think people ever really do rather they learn to live with it and move on the best way possible.

The setting of Little Rock Marina was just perfect for the book. It was like a cocoon for Nell to heal and move forward and realise what she wants to do with her life. It wasn't too big nor too small and it allowed for a cosy community feel to emanate through the pages. That's what I loved that everyone was there for each other, they looked out for one another and always wanted to help in any way they could , through the good times and the bad.

Nell is moving into a different phase of her life, she works in The Melting Pot deli run by her best friend Bea. The only thing that niggled me was that I view a deli as being a place where I would go and get cold meats etc for lunch or something but here cakes, coffee, lunch etc were served. So I think it would have been better to call it a café because I was slightly confused for a while. I know there have been heaps of books with café in the title recently and maybe the author wanted to avoid this but seeing as it wasn't mentioned in the title rather more so in the book calling it a café would have been more apt. I know this is a very minor point to raise but as the Melting Point was a vital part of the characters lives I wanted to be clear in my head as to what it was and its function in the community. It seemed to me to be a focal point for the characters where problems could be shared and discussed.

There was not one character I didn't like in this story and that's unusual for me as normally I find someone I cant stand and who is viewed as evil or the one to hate. OK the character of Kate was meant to fulfil this role but she featured so briefly I paid her scant heed to her. Nell and Bea just had the most wonderful friendship that was written so well. They were a partnership, a unit and could fall back on each other when one or the other felt weak, vulnerable or just needed that comforting word that gave then the strength to keep going.

Bea is married to Nathan with a five year old son Jacob and Nell is Jacob's godmother. Jacob stole every scene he was in with his humour and fondness for saying things things as he saw them. I did think the entire focus of the book would be on Nell and her road back to happiness so it was great to see that other characters got their moment to step into the spotlight. Bea has her own troubles to deal with, as well as competing in the best deli competition there were was a more personal side to her story aspects which brought happiness and others maybe not so much. I did think her biggest storyline kind of came out of nowhere all of a sudden and seemed random and not to have fitted in with the flow of the story up to that point but then the more it progressed towards the end it gelled well with everything. Bea and Nathan had the most wonderful marriage and I loved how Nathan was always there for Bea when she needed him, yet he always allowed her to be herself and go for what she wanted in life.

Nell's story could have been so run of the mill and could have felt like I had read it all before as in woman loses husband and then we follow their journey but Christie Barlow writes in such a way that this all felt so fresh and new and exciting and just the most warmest of stories that made you feel all good inside. Nell was becoming more independent and coming out slowly from the cloud that had engulfed her when Ollie died. It was clear she needed a project and when the old picture house came up for sale it stirred up so many fond memories for her memories of a project that herself and Ollie had hoped to work on, that she jumps at the chance to try and buy it. Personally I thought she was being a bit rash taking on such a big project and I questioned whether she would even win the auction in the first place. But one thing Nell has in spades is guts and determination and she wasn't going to be beaten.

Again the acquisition of the picture house wasn't the major focus of the book rather it slotted in amongst lots of little mini plot-lines which all came together wonderfully towards the end. Of course some romance has to feature in a book of this nature and in this case comes in the form of Guy Cornish who is Irish and at the marina to help out his brother who is recovering from an operation. Oh how I loved Guy. He was so full of charm and warmth but not so in your face and seedy like some other male protagonists can be. He knew when to step back and takes things easy. He never pushed Nell into something she wasn't ready for but I loved the chemistry bubbling away between the pair and it was only a question of when rather than if they were to take things further and how would things further develop. Guy gave great advice to Nell and but behind it all there was sense he was hiding something and if it came to light it could unsettle everything in a big way.

A new arrival at the marina stirs up plenty of questions and Nell's mother Gilly starts acting strangely too all of which adds even more drama to the story. I felt all smug that I knew exactly what had been going on but I was proven very wrong and never would have guessed the outcome. It's nice to be surprised and then discover how the revelations slot in with the overall storyline.

Little Rock Marina was a special place to read of with characters equally as special. You come to view them as friends and are rooting for each of them hoping they will find the happiness they deserve and the answers to questions and problems that are found throughout the story. I relished every moment spent with Nell and co and do hope there may be a return visit in the future. Different characters could be introduced or even just a novella to see how the characters I have come to love are getting on now. Without doubt the story that awaits you between the pages of this book which has such a gorgeous cover was a pleasure to read and was packed full of charm, cheer, comfort and lots of life lessons.

The Cosy Canal Boat Dream was a joy to read from start to finish and reaffirmed just how much I have come to love Christie Barlow's books. She has that unique ability to create that nice, warm, easy feeling we all love to experience when reading a rom-com. Yet at the same time she writes about serious, life altering issues but in the most realistic of ways that blend in well with what her readers have come to expect. I can't wait for what Christie has in store for us next.

Barlow's book, The Cosy Canal Boat Dream, had all the makings of a brilliant chick lit read; likeable characters, two broken-hearted individuals joining together to find their happy ending, and plenty of other things going on in the background to add substance to the story. I enjoyed getting to know Nell and the wonderful Guy, and the other less prominent characters. I loved that there was even a twist in the story which you don't always get with chick lit fiction like this, and although the plot twist was very easy to work out, it was a nice change from the usual boy meets girl and plain sails through to the happy ending.

Now bearing in mind I had an advanced reader copy, it is difficult to tell whether some of the issues with the writing are due to this being a pre-published release, or whether these are actually things that will end up in the final copy. There were unfortunately several things that bothered me about the writing; the use of commas was completely wrong, with commas in the wrong places, too many commas, commas at the END of sentences, and many more. There was a lot of repetition of words, or missing words, and lots of typos and misuse of words. One example I can think of is 'flap cap' instead of 'flat cap'. This may just be me being pedantic, but these things matter to me; if there are parts of the writing that grate on me, I am less likely to enjoy the book as a whole.

If however you are less pedantic than me and can oversee these niggly little issues, this is the perfect romance.

(Thanks NetGalley for this copy).

An absolutely adorable book.
I completely fell in love with the characters and the Little Rock Marina.
I seriously want to go eat at the deli and meet Bea and Nell.
I was truly hooked to this book, so drawn in with the residents I feel like I know them.
It was an emotional read too, highs and lows that gave me happy and sad tears.
I’m really sad that I’ve finished it too, I just wanted to keep reading.
Thanks to HarperImpulse and NetGalley for the review copy in return for an honest review.

Nell Andrews had it all: great husband who happened to be the love of her life, a best friend in Bea, a supportive Mum and a lovely canal boat, lovingly decorated, always cosy and in the middle of the little marina community, But her husband is gone after a tragic accident, and now two years on, Nell is still searching for something to fil the Ollie-sized hole in her heart and life. Being run down by the large red setter wasn’t in her game plan at all, let alone the man being walked by the dog, here to help out his brother. Irish accent, sparkling eyes and a ready smile.

Guy Cornish is here to help out his brother Ed at the marina, while Ed recovers from an operation. He’s brought along Sam, a setter ful of the goofy good-natured bonhomie that the breed is known for, and a penchant for checking out a new arrival in the harbor – another canal boat moored at the outer edges. Taking a break from his office job, Guy is reconnecting with his brother and his love of being outdoors, building and using his hands, following in the footsteps of his grandfather.

When you add in Bea, Nell’s best friend and supporter to the mix, one who knows Nell so well and is anxious to see her friend move forward toward happiness in her life. The café may help to keep both Bea and Nell busy, and the constant flow of locals and tourists have made it the centerpiece of the little community, but Nell and her husband always dreamt of a space that would bring all of the community together – and it’s for sale.

When you add in Nell’s decision to buy the old property, her mother’s strange behavior as she hides away secrets from Nell, the budding relationship that explodes in spectacular fashion between Nell and Guy, a reconciliation for Bea and her sister after a great loss, and the nomination of Bea’s café as one of the Best in Britain, the characters, charm and elements combine to provide a wonderful read. This is a story that tugs at heartstrings and brings so many emotions, and instantly you are drawn into the story and the marina: cheering, caring and even shedding more than a few tears as the story unfolds. A wonderful introduction to this author, and I can’t wait for more.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review. All conclusions are my own responsibility.

A brilliant read, I read this rather quick considering I had kids off school driving me stir crazy. Where do I even begin with this?
We have Nell who lives on her barge at Little Rock Marina and she's feeling lost without her husband who died recently. She still down and really sad but she meets an Irish man who is always loosing his dog Sam. All for good causes though.
Nell sees the old picture house is going up for sale and she remembers how her and Ollie wanted to do a renovation project like this. So she looks into it... Nell's best friend runs the local deli/cafe that's sells some delicious foods, it's not all based around the cafe but it's a mix of the canal, pub, the cafe and it's really is a perfect read.
Guy and Nell become friendly and their sexual chemistry is so obvious the canal banks will burst if neither of them do anything but everybody seems to have some secrets, Guy too. He doesn't even tell Nell and when she finds out what it is, it's too late. The secrets start to unravel and wow they are big secrets. Nell's mother is hiding something too and when she starts to dig she gets a fair idea what it is but there's a huge twist in it all and this is what makes her books so fantastic. So Bea who runs the cafe has been keeping away from her sister and mother and she is ru united with them on not so good grounds. She is pregnant too and just a little hectic, but Bea and Nell are always there putting the world to rights with a glass or a bottle of wine.
By the time the auction comes around, things take a turn, there's love on the horizon, BIG secrets so when Nell begins to do some digging, the discovery isn't what she thinks, hence why this is like one of the best thrillers but in chic lits, it's just perfectly brilliant.

The story is just brilliant and I would love to be friends amongst Nell and Bea. The location sounds like bliss even on a cold and frosty day.
I love Christie Barlow style and how things take a turn in a good way and by the end of the book, it's all happy and there's no unexplained questions left to wonder about. It's really is a wonderful book.

Take a look at this striking cover … the sheer brightness and charm sums up The Cosy Canal Boat Dream perfectly. From the very first page I was transported to the Little Rock marina and aboard the ‘Nollie’, the home so called by Nell and Ollie! Tragedy has struck though, Ollie is no more and Nell is living alone on her floating home coping with her grief.

She is supported by her best friend Bea, their relationship is so sweet and natural, Bea has a Deli Cafe where Nell works on the basis that they are helping each other out. The delicious foods on offer there will make your mouth water, so don’t read if you are feeling peckish.

Life goes on, Nell literally bumps into a rather hunky stranger called Guy, she is drawn to his gorgeous dog or is it his twinkling eyes and Irish charm!? They share a passion for old picture houses and Nell embarks on purchasing the vacant cinema and revamping it to it’s former glory. What trials and tribulations will that venture bring!

It wouldn’t be a story without a huge quota of secrets, friendships, romance and community spirit. I enjoyed getting acquainted with all the locals around the marina, it seems such a perfect location to live. So many books these days are based around seaside cottages or hotels/guest houses etc it made a refreshing change to be on a canal boat! Not my ideal place to live but I can certainly appreciate the connection to water.

There are plenty of sub plots interlinking the main tale which revolves around Nell, quite a few times I thought I knew where it was going and Christie threw in another curve ball. This is an absolutely delightful read, perfect for anyone who enjoys a romantic comedy that has a bit more substance, it delves a little deeper into the readers emotions creating a few stifled sobs moments before dealing another smile inducing situation.

Christie Barlow has a flair for writing mood enhancing warmth and comfort books to brighten any day.

My thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for my copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Christie Barlow has a knack for creating interesting characters who find themselves in a variety of situations. This is my third novel by Christie and I can say without a doubt it is my favourite. This for me is the one that got all the ingredients just right - completely held my attention from start to finish. Oh, and when I did finish I was sad to say goodbye the community of characters that are the residents of this story. Such a lovely tale.

Nell lives on a narrow boat called Nollie, a combination of her name and her late husband Ollie's name in a lovely little marina that has a real sense of community. She has a wonderful mum, Gilly, a super best friend, Bea and a comfortable existence helping Bea out with her deli. Nell isn't really looking for anything more at this point in time, two years after the death of her husband in a road accident. But sometimes love doesn't wait to be invited in, it just walks right up in the form of a handsome Irishman, Guy.

This story is filled with little moments and big events that you don't always quite expect. Nell's adventures to buy and renew the local cinema - a beautiful grand old building where she had her first date with Ollie is absolutely engaging. The mystery of her mother's determination to stop her from buying the cinema is intriguing. And why did Guy leave Ireland, was it just to help his brother, Ed , to recover from illness or is there more to his story. I didn't put this book down - I had to read it in one sitting because I was enjoying Nell's life so much. I can say 100 percent that this author is one to keep on reading - I can't wait to see who comes to life next.

I received a copy of this book to read from NetGalley and the publisher in return for an honest review. Thanks so much - it was a wonderful way to spend a few hours.

I feel like this is the sort of book someone would read who isn't really a reader and just wanted to pick something up. The writing wasn't great and I can't understand why the reviews are so good unless they just don't expect much out of a book.
I don't get why they didn't just talk to each other, everytime something happened they just ran off when in reality you would sit down and talk. The characters were boring, whiney and had no depth, i couldn't even picture their face in my head as there wasn't much description of them and they just did the same thing all the time, also no 5 year old talks or acts the way Jacob did.
There were a few mistakes also a few times getting names mixed up and sometimes you couldn't tell who was talking as it was wrote on the same line
The constant talk of being on a diet, going on a diet, eating something then saying they needed to diet just got tiresome. Eat the food and enjoy it and I can guarantee they won't have needed to go.on a diet.
The end of the story was the best bit where things actually happened

Moored up at the Little Rock Marina, Nell Andrew's has her canal boat, Nollie. After losing her college sweetheart in a tragic accident, she has her mum and best friend Bea around to support her and then two years on, Irish man, Guy Cornish shows up at the marina, his dog Sam sweeps Nell off her feet and soon she's falling hard for Guy...

However, when Bea falls pregnant her deli where they work gets nominated for an award just as Nell takes on restoring the Old Picture House in honour of Ollie's memory with the assistance of Guy.

This book was a really sweet read and I loved it, perfect for a winter or autumnal read especially! The characters were so sweet and open in supporting each other no matter what came along in their way which is refreshing to read. I also really enjoyed when Guy met Nell initially with a hilarious scene taking place.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

I absolutely adored this book. It instantly wrapped me within its pages, enjoying time spent at the Little Rock Marina with a gorgeous sounding cafe near by. The characters were wonderful- including Nollie, the canal boat. Guy
sounds the perfect love interest- but is he hiding a secret? I loved meeting all the new friends at the Marina. Nell's friends and family are great- helping her through the heartbreak of losing her young husband.
Guy's dog led them to find a fascinating man on a new canal boat who had links to the film world. He was an interesting character.
Nell is looking to take over the local cinema and restore it to being the centre of the community again. You could feel her excitement over her plans for the place- but would she be able to afford to take it on.
There are secrets being kept by several people and it is lovely to see them unfold.
I was so sad to leave the marina and all my new friends there!!!!!!1

Nell has still not got over the death of her husband Ollie two years before - she has lost her soulmate - and is really just going through the motions living on their canal boat The Nollie and working for her best friend Bea.....that is until a gorgeous Irishman called Guy appears in her life, suddenly she is starting to have feelings that she thought she would never have again

Guy has come over from Ireland with his lovely Irish Setter Sam to help his brother out at the boatyard while he is recovering from an operation.......but is he all he seems or is he keeping back secrets......but he definitely has the eye for Nell!

When Nell gets involved with a project of buying up the old cinema and bringing it back to life Guy is there to help her but her mother is against it from the beginning.....what is her problem.....has she got secrets of her own?

A lovely warm book with great characters that you fall in love with an a few mysteries along the way. Definitely a light beach read that I would recommend

From a tearful prologue that gets you gripped, to unexpected twist and turns I really didn't see coming. The characters were adorable, the back stories of each character were gripping and left me with an overall warm feeling of OMG and delight. Sad to have finished it. The best Christie Barlow book yet, very well written. Thank you to netgalley for an advanced copy, only requested it yesterday and couldn't put it down.
