Self Service is a comedy novel from author Matt Clay. It's the story of Martin, a 30 something year old man who splits up with his girlfriend after a supposedly romantic holiday and realises his life is lacking in direction. Through a series of increasingly more embarrassing incidents and dates, Martin attempts to find love but generally ends up in the beer aisle of his local supermarket. Fast paced with strong language throughout, the book aims to make the reader laugh out loud on as many pages as possible.

Matt Clay is a very funny writer. The book is written in an almost blog-style which is becoming more popular on Amazon at the moment, so much so in fact that I think there should be a new genre for them. This isn't a story like a novel, just insights into the life of the protagonist, who finds himself in all sorts of scrapes, ranging from his failure to find a long-term partner to his willingness to jump into just about any situation regardless of the fact that it's sure to end in tears.

A pick you up

Thoroughly enjoyed this book during lockdown it really cheered me up. Could have been longer though as I did not want it to end,.
