Troubled Waters by Carly Fall is the first book in the paranormal military romantic suspense series Supernatural Renegades. It was formerly titled, By Sea. It stars Brody Teller, a retired Marine with a supernatural ability and Rayna Lopez, a CIA agent with a secret past. Will on a reconnaissance mission in Guatemala, Brody and his team survived an accident that left him with a supernatural power. Once he was released from the hospital, he was discharged from the military and set up in an apartment in Corpus Christi, Texas. Several months later, Joe Smith approaches him with a job offer he can’t refuse. Rayna tries to get into field work, but is stuck behind a desk. When her father asks for her help protecting her famous half-sister, she finally agrees. It turns out Brody and his new team are their bodyguards.

Brody is full of anger and sadness at his situation and wants a life worth living. Rayna is quiet, reserved, intelligent, and wants more adventure. The other characters have a variety of depth, but it was adequate for their roles.

This was an interesting premise, but it let me down in the suspense area. The pacing seemed somewhat slow and the story doesn’t explore the supernatural power or the build up that would have kept this reader excited and on edge wondering what would happen next. There are a couple of action scenes late in the book and a couple of spicy scenes.

Overall, this was an entertaining romance with an incredible setting in the Caribbean and characterization that was well done, but failed to provide the suspense I expected.

I purchased a copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. The publication date was October 14, 2014.

DNF at 72%

The paranormal aspect is ‘thin’ to the point of almost non-existence. An excuse to cram as many sex scenes into the story as possible. Utterly boring

There were some problems with the book but some good points too. The book was unique, and not so predictable as to get very boring. There were some plot issues- parts that were not believable, and parts that made no sense at all. It wasn't really explained enough to make it realistic how the government experimented on him to give him these unique abilities, or even what he could really do with said abilities- aside from the dolphins, waves & water spouts. I would have liked to see more done with his abilities than was done in this book, it was almost to light on that side. Also, the editing/proof reading done on this published book was atrocious. That alone really hurt the reading enjoyment & pulled me out of the book because I'd have to back-track to figure out what was meant in way too many places.

Interesting plot. I liked that this was some government coverup on a botched experimental government test. But it took really too long to get to the action. I also hoped it was more to do with his past than what his current job became. And because it didn’t explain the why it happened and then the weird ‘he will die if anyone finds out’ but he’s isolated and barely functioning in life. And then is swept away by his mysterious new boss to get out from under the government thumb. His life does get better. But it still leaves a lot of unanswered question. And then next book is about another army guy with different mysterious powers. So seems it is more of the same

Riveting Paranormal Adventure!
A great beginning to the Supernatural Renegade series. I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to reading the rest. Wonderfully written combination of complex humans with paranormal powers and plenty of action, emotions, suspense, drama and a little romance. The unique storyline kept me enthralled from beginning to end. Enjoy!

I received an advanced copy and am happy to leave my honest review.

An explosion changes the lives of those in the platoon and they are not only not to maintain contact with their comrades but are ripped from their old lives as well.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
