Although this is a book written primarily for kids, it contains a trove of information about Greek gods and mythology presented in a fun format. The book covers all the major gods and goddesses plus information about ancient cities and mythological battles. It also relates the information to present day words and usages.
Decided to read this book in the hopes of visiting Greece next year. My knowledge of Greek mythology is limited and found this children's book to be enjoyable. Many fun facts about Greek mythology!
From Mother Earth (Gaea) and Father Heaven (Uranus) created the Titans, the first gods and goddesses on Earth.
Each Greek god and goddess has specific symbols assigned to them including spirit animals. Poseidon's spirit animal is a horse because he created the first horse out of waves.
Hera, Zeus's wife, liked to flaunt her beauty and keep an eye on her husband so her spirit animal is the peacock.
I teach a Greek Mythology unit to my 7th graders each year. Last year, I had a student who was really involved in the topic and brought this book to class. I knew I had to add it to my book collection-not only because it would be a great classroom resource but I, too find mythology interesting. It definitely will not disappoint and it's a great book to read if you only have a minute here or a minute there.
Great graphics and fun facts about everything Greek mythology. Beyond just the stories, learn about family relationships, story origins and how Greek mythology influenced the English language. A fun read to meet the folk tale and mythology 40 book challenge requirement and for Percy Jackson fans.
Excellent book. My 3 year old grandson and my Year 3 class love this book. It was brilliant for subject knowledge before reading Who Let the Gods out. I also learned quite a bit, so would like to get more books in this series.
Fun little book written to hold the attention of kids. Which is good because this was read with my 5yo. Lots of great illustrations. The book is hard to read out loud due to all the little bubbles and breaks in the text for side information.
This was our bathroom read. i love Greek mythology. I found parts is of it confusing and not organized it the way I'd have liked, but I adore these weird but true books.
Lydia read this book as her non fiction book to accompany her fiction reading of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. She really liked it. She said it was fun and good.
Not my favorite Greek mythology book but good for an introduction into Greek mythology for younger kids not too long or detailed and has lots of illustrations
