A quick read!
I have read micro tales on social networking sites, where very few words are used to tell a tale. This is my first experience with a book of micro tales. It was indeed a different experience. You could stop and pick the book any moment, and the flow wouldn’t be jarred. But of course, you wouldn’t have the flow as it doesn't have one. It’s a book with very many tales of such small portions. Certainly intriguing and leaving your imagination go crazy. Some tales move a chill down your spine. Some leave you pondering. And some laughing. A style every reader should try reading once. Micro tales is a new emerging form of writing. Very hard way of writing as it has to encompass a whole tale in few words. Kudos to the author for coming up with a book with 100 tales.

A quick read. As he says in the title it is a mixed bag of all kinds of tales. Some delivery a punch, some have horror, some are funny play of words. I like the way he has them organized in alphabetic order with interesting titles. One of the points about writing a 100 tales of different varieties is that while there is something for everyone, there is also something everyone will not like. So that makes this format a bit of a challenging one. Also personally I read tales to immerse myself in other worlds different from myself and totally forget myself. In shorter works you have to switch off and switch on every time. I have never tried something like this before. So with apprehensions I gave this a try with open mind. But after reading it, I realized micro fiction is really not my thing. But I have tried to judge and rate this book without bringing my personal bias into it as I see the author has put a lot of thought and effort into this.

Expressing yourself or your emotions in limited number of words is an art. I always have an added respect for writers of short stores.
But this is exemplary, less than 140 words.
Stories so short that you read a tale, introspect it and then move on to the next. That’s what I did, read them, tasted them and digested them. And one more thing, I have actually bookmarked the ones that I liked, so that I can read them again and again.
The author has touched upon various emotions like love, satire, crime, suspense….. also the tales have been arranged alphabetically. Some are cute and some are sad. To tell you the truth, there were some I did not understand. There were some that I could relate to, Zoom being one of them (I know all of you would…)
Some tales made me think, what would happen next?
A must read!

Presenting review for a unique form of stories or rather micro stories. Small is Big by Rafaa Dalvi is a collection of 100 micro tales.
Imagine giving a start, middle, end of story in just 140 characters. I cant even write a review for a bad book in 2-3lines.
100 micro tales. Each story of 140 characters. Different genres in one book.
The stories cant be clubbed in a specific genre.
Huge range which takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions with each story.
Each story lets your imagination fill in the blanks or draw your own conclusions. My imagination had a field day & I have caught myself visualizing some or the other story from the book days after finishing it.
Keep writing more such micro/flash fiction. All the best for all your book(s), Rafaa.

Disclaimer: Thanks to the author for a review copy of the book in lieu of an honest review. I was not paid or otherwise compensated in any way for this review.

My rating for the book is 4.5/5.0.

Brevity is the soul of wit, said Shakespeare; it is the sister of talent, said Chekhov.

Writing flash fiction is challenging as well as deeply satisfying. I have loved all varieties of micro-fiction- as a reader as well as a writer.

Micro-tales compel you to stay focused on your story and to find creative ways of telling it without redundant words. They are also for those who have a powerful command over their vocabulary. Just as a skilled juggler can make the balls dance to his tunes effortlessly, so also can a skilled writer of micro-tales lightly toss words in air and have them create the exact nuance he wanted to put together.

Rafaa Dalvi has made me fall deeper in love with flash fiction. His skill at turning a phrase coincides so perfectly with a twist in the tale that you gasp in delight. For a reader, there is nothing more delicious than to have the writer toss you in the air with an expert and light hand, so that you feel the wind in your hair as you come floating down from the height to which he pitched you.

It wouldn’t be easy for me to choose from this superb collection of micro-tales. Each story is a delight to savor. Each perfectly chiselled story reflects the author’s sombre hued spaces where these stories are born. The stories often hit you over the head with unsavory home truths concealed cleverly in the fold of their words.

If I could suggest an improvement to the author, it would only be to include a large percentage of humor in his next collection. But of course, that is a personal preference. I do feel, however, that the author possesses a fine sense of the ridiculous which has not had enough expression in the present volume.

This book is a collection of 100 micro tales of different genres..I feel that it’s difficult for an Author to write a story within 140 characters (It’s my personal opinion)..So, when I started reading this book, I was amazed at how the Author had written all these stories..There is so much said and also not said at the same time and as a reader, I liked imagining about the flow of these stories..

Author had written about diverse topics – Love, relationships, thriller, humor, horror mystery and loss.. I liked all stories but my personal favorites are – Always, Barren,Busy, Birthday special, Compliment, Confiscate,Contest,Cry, Gift, Grasp, Last, Liberated,Manage,Management,Missing,Murder,Saw, Tell, The Memorial,Trapped and Trust.

This book is a quick, interesting and a good read..

My rating is 4/5.

I have read a few microtales here and there on social media and was curious about how someone could pen small or micro tales and still pack a punch. So when I saw this book was a collection of many microtales I picked it up.
The thing that I loved most about this collection is that it was multicentric and I really enjoyed the various flavours added. Although I confess that very few microtales I couldn't comprehend. But most of them were really enriching with punches n twists at the right place.
A very crisply written n compiled multigenre microtales.
I recommend this book to all those who want to read may be one teeny tiny story at a time and still feel the satisfaction of having read a story.
Hoping to read many more works by this author.

Sometimes a couple of lines make a huge impact rather than a couple of pages. Similarly, a micro-tale, wherein a story is told in a couple of lines leaves an everlasting impression rather than a long novel.

Small is Big is written by Rafaa Dalvi, is a collection of 100 such micro-tales which touches your heart. Some bring a smile on your face, while some make you ponder; some break your heart while some make your eyes teary while others hold you in awe.

Loved the unique concept and the skill in which the author has written and conveyed his message through these micro-tales.

Small is big is a must read by all.

Book Title:  Small is Big - Volume 1 & 2
Author: Rafaa Dalvi
Format: Kindle & Paperback

Book Title:
The book's title ' Small is Big ' is short yet meaningful and positive.

Book Cover:
The cover image of the book of both the volumes though differs in background color is a Soldier Pawn placed before a mirror and the image is of a King pawn. The image explains the attitude everyone has to develop in spite of the situations and conditions.

About the book:
The book ' Small is Big - Volume 1 & 2, is a collection of inspiring, thought-provoking and empowering micro tales that range from A to Z of life's situations and emotions. Every micro tale in both books is insightful about life and life-related experiences. Some of the tales serve as self-realization techniques that can be adapted by people of any age. The best part of both the books is that it can be read by a person of any age i.e. teenage to an elderly person.

One of the finest thing in the narration is the micro tales are unbiased towards every comparative variable of life.

What I like:
1. The novel concept of micro tales in both the books
2. The tone of each tale is very effective
3. Various topics are chosen in writing the tales

What I didn't like:
A more interesting and artistic representation of the beautifully penned micro tales would have created more impact than now.

Language & Grammar:
Colloquial and literary language both are used with flawless vocabulary.

My Final Verdict:
Perfect read on a dull evening to enhance the mood

Book Title: 4/5
Book Cover: 4/5
About the book: 4/5
Language & Grammar: 4/5

"Small is big" is a collection of several short stories which make us feel very good after reading. Why did I say that?
Not just because I felt good it is because of the simplicity of the story and intriguing concept which made me fall for this one.
I love to read short stories as they are most intense, profound and prove to be good for every level of reader. (Obviously, if it is a good one.)
This collection of stories holds almost 100 stories in a pack of 100 pages only.
The cover is quite good and gives a philosophical sense of dreams, vision, and thoughts.
And so do these elements are used in the formation of the story.
Beautiful composition, narration but just one thing, it is not balanced so you cannot expect each and every story to appeal to you.
Each story offers several perspectives and it is upon reader which one does he forms.

The book title says a lot in three words just like the book pieces have the ability to do.The titles are arranged in alphabetical order giving the book an organised feel. The book is a collection of micro tales which have around three to four sentences. The writing is powerful enough to squeeze in the stories in these three to four sentences. The range the book pieces offer is from death to happiness. Certain tales left me wanting more. The language used is simple and lucid. The author has also included topics of coming out as tales which i absolutely loved.
The covers of all the books are same except for the colour which should be worked upon.
Since I've read the third part of this book, i felt here in the pieces were a little basic. They could've been better.

I would have been a looser if i left it unread

I don't know how the Kindle version of this book got added in my library but I must say I don't regret it.
Each story ,oh no ,micro tale opens into a new world . The author introduces each story and leaves the rest to readers imagination. Not many times had I experienced this. I don't like contemporary Indian authors writing style ,but this one has made be to think a different way.
If you are looking for something new ,then give this book a try

Small Is Big is collection of microtales of various genres. Each one is different from the other.
The best part is that each Small tale has a big message to convey. It has perfect title for it.
It is short read yet is took some time for me to understand between the lines. Some tales i have read two times to understand it or just to enjoy it once again.
Microtales are short and concepts that it shows by explaining incident or characters, its amazing.
It turned out to an early morning peaceful and meaningful read.

Small Is Big is a wonderful collection of micro tales. One that is full of tiny tales but with deep meaningful messages. I have been reading and enjoying the various tales from the Terribly Tiny Tales series and the author is a contributor to those. The ideas of really short tales are what attracted me to the book

Beauty Marks make me so sad, beauty is a curse for many and here the author depicts it perfectly through animals. Their beauty, coat, horns making them targets for poachers. Not all beauty is a blessing—whether animals or humans.

Busy is another tale about our lives today. How the most obvious is missed since we are too busy to see the things right in front of us. Daddy was such a warped truth that I was unsure what to feel. The pain of a boy who lost his father or the pain of so many who he hurts now? Rafaa has done a terrific job with these micro tales.

Fantasies is a perfect story for book lovers, a wonderful correlation of books, stories and our imagination. Lie, a truth within a lie. It was wrapped up so neatly by the author that none of us can deny its reality. A fact of life for many couples.

Silence is a tiny tale with a powerful, gut-wrenching message. I shuddered as I thought that it is actually a reality for some. Trapped is a story of millions of women, a side of her life that is seldom talked about. Always we are eager to celebrate motherhood but do we see how it is a trap as well?

Zoom is a simple tale of our truth in the face of technology. How often have tried to zoom real life to realise it is not social media. In a few words, our shallow lives and reality have been exposed.

I recommend this book for the fast, deep and easy read it is. Perfect for reading anytime, whether in one go or taking your time, reading the tales one at a time. Small Is Big makes for a compelling read.

Small is big

The book is a compilation of short stories written in a hysterical manner. The stories encourage the reader to read more, explore it & feel them. It's a short book, will hardly take anytime to finish it.

The realistic approach gives readers a pleasure & experience which they have been missing in other genre. You can imagine things as you visualise them while reading it.

Writing is also good. Makes it sensible to read. Narration is okay.
A good weekend read!

A commendable collection of microfiction by Rafaa Dalvi. The short stories span several genres, and a lot of them have a surprise ending, even I couldn't guess (and I call myself a connoisseur of stories in the thriller/horror genre). The book is definitely worth reading. It will leave the reader feeling satisfied in spite of the shock content of some stories in it.

A Good Book

Having read Rafaa's short stories and TTT, this book is a disappointment. The tales in the book failed to meet my expectations. He has set a benchmark with his previous works which is not met. Hope he'll do justice to his talent in his next work.

A very cool thing to do, writing these tiny stories - and the cover is just so appropriate!
The stories are very imaginative - only one thing bothered me: the titles of the microtales could have been more inventive.

Enjoyed this short read!

Pocket-sized, huge impact!

Was just browsing around when I came across this 'book', the word 'micro-story' intrigued me. These are tweet-sized stories that you can finish in 15 mins. Interesting, versatile and easy to read. It's the kind of thing you read on the fly.
