Love in Between is more than just a collection of poetry and short stories; it is an invitation to connect with the universal language of the heart.
Love in Between is a poetry and short story collection that pulled the strings of my heart through its honesty and romantic flair. It explores love through different layers and varied emotions. The writing is so beautiful that it is guaranteed to instantly get you intrigued. The tone is so delicate yet immensely powerful. It soothed both my soul and tongue. I’m totally in love with the author's style and want to read so much more by her.
Love in Between is a collection of poems and short stories that tugged my heart, warmed my heart, and empowered even.
The poems in the collection lean on the classical style of poem, in terms of language usage it is very Shakespearean. And the way it envelops is truly is romantic. Among pieces which stood out the most were:
- Sins of Us - Beautiful Fascination - Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow - Sunset Shadow - Sweet Summer of Jun - Mercy and Recollection.
The characteristic I liked about them is the variety of story-telling and pure emotional representation. The couplets were sensational and heartbreaking to go through.
For the short stories; I find the earlier entries of stories capturing but the later part lacks atmospheric and physical description. It felt unfinished and hanging, more read through would be great to spot errors and lack thereof. But as an overall, it is kind of empowering and hopeful despite it being having a gloomy air? You know? that feeling?
I have received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest opinion.
“Love in Between” by Mercy Jane Porquez Ballesteros is a very short collection of poems & short stories about love & lose. I’m not sure if I should really say that it’s a “quick read” though. I’ll do my best to explain.
To start off, let me start with the GOOD qualities. The poetry has massive potential. The writer’s inspiration of Shakespeare really shows. With this being said, I firmly believe that with a bit of work, some of Mercy’s work could be astounding and thought provoking. There seems to be a great line of thought behind the plot being set up in “Love in Between”, but doesn’t have much to back it up.
Some of the “not so good” aspects: Translation…or autocorrect maybe? Either way, this book has a few editing errors that made the reading seem iffy, & uncomfortable. Typically these errors can be over looked, but being that an older style of English is used, these errors could alter the overall meaning that Mercy is trying to portray.
That’s just the poetry side. On the short story side, it doesn’t really feel like a story. More like extremely short diary entries that sort of have incomplete thoughts. They also have what seems to be cliff hangers for endings. Personally, I have no idea what to make of some of it. I want to like it, but I also just really feel like there are so many unanswered questions.
I probably wouldn’t recommend this book to many people. It’s not enough of a book for me to want to brag about any of it. It’s more of a book that I’d read once and then forget on a shelf until I moved. I’d give it a 2 star rating, and even that is being generous in my opinion.
Fantastic World of Love! The world would have been a happier and a lovely place to live with this kind of classic- contemporary poems! My girlfriend loves love poems, and I use them when we are on the verge of breaking up or arguing. However, I now consider my relationship saved. The savior is here “Love in Between," the title says it all. Much credit to the author. Talk about love, human relationships, and emotions of love, all of them put together in an impressive way to come up with great pieces of poems and short stories. After reading the first poem, I couldn't put it down; I was driven by a gripping force to continue reading until the end. What made me so connected to it is how my impressions changed in every new page and every poem, it was so absorbing. My favorite was, “Good-Bye, First Love.” My mind will always drift back to this novel whenever I am faced with a love or relationship challenges. Other than the book's uniqueness, the author has done masterly work in developing the poems: perfect grammar, impressive style of writing, a suitable tone in every poem, and an exciting flow. I can't get enough of the book, and the author was masterful, it was a fantastic experience. I have to give this the big thumbs up! I recommend it to poem lovers and short stories and those who haven't tried them yet. There are so many love and relationship lessons for such a staggering price! A perfect gift for your love.
I do not read a lot of poetry, but I have been interested in Mercy Jane Porquez Ballesteros’ work ever since first reading her other book, A Taste of Revenge. Love in Between is a short collection of poems about love, passion, relationships, and trust. I was impressed by the wide range of topics Mercy wrote about. Some of the poems can be read like short stories. In fact, I enjoyed how the whole book seems to be like a diary and are left to think about its characters and their actions between poems. Mercy wrote lovely poems, full of passion and kind of influenced by the classic Shakespeare. I like how they are full of emotion and we, readers, can connect to some of them. You will see yourself thinking and analysing those poems while reading and to me that is an awesome experience. I recommend this book to readers who want to start reading poetry and are interested in a more romantic and classic style.
I really enjoyed this book, a mixture with short stories and a poetry collection written with classic twists of English poetry language like thou, thee etc which really isn't done a lot any more.
A rise that blooms is my favourite poem easily contemplating growing love to a rose blooming and was impactful in it's imagery drawn by the written words.
