Note: Please proceed with caution as this book contains content recommended for mature audiences. This is a standalone romance with a happy ending.
Having read all of this author's stories I thought I could guess whst would happen but it didn't as she surprised me again with the kind and the number of twists she has in this story. After reading the blurb I went in to read this work with a lot of judgement in my head. All judgements quashed with superb logic. An amazing plot, incredible pace in the story and language and dialogues that are easy but powerful. I wholeheartedly recommend this story to everyone who loves romance and thrill in one story. Do keep aside a few hours to read this story as you may not want to put it down once you start reading it.
It had layers - two characters who were troubled as kids, the greed for power and money, the LGBTQ angle... It had a lot to cover and offer, in a good way. The curiosity to know more about Nina and Gaurav would keep the reader glued to their screens.
I had anticipated Suraj and Radha's relationship - the real relationship I had guessed Gaurav's profession
I was not prepared for this book at all. When Nina gets kidnapped I kept on turning the pages as to what's going to happen next. Ms. Kasi kept me hooked to the pages with her sheer brilliant writing. The plot is intriguing no doubt but the way Ms. Kasi has done her character sketches is a marvel. A play with words. Ms.Kasi is proving to be very good with romance and suspense. I loved the mind game Ms. Kasi played - with her readers as well as with her characters. Every time I tried to figure out where this plot was leading to, the twist came with a bang. Kudos on such a wonderful writing. Looking forward for the next one.
The Captive is fast-paced, suspense thriller which holds the reader captive from page one till the very end.
Having read M V Kasi's previous works which I have loved reading, I was expecting same kind of roller-coaster ride. But I was in for a real surprise as this book is far far superior to her previous works.
I loved Nina's guts and determination, Gaurav's passion for his work and his family. I would have definitely loved to read a little bit more about how his sister was killed and how he managed to trace and kill those hired killers.
But otherwise, too I really loved reading this book wherein the author has managed to keep the suspense and heat running till the very end.
The Captive is definitely a must read but be sure to keep your air-conditioners on when reading as some scenes are really too hot.
The excerpt I read in one of the promotional posts intrigued me and I read the book though it is not my usual genre. The book turned out to be quite a page turner. The author has found a niche within a genre where cliches and tropes reign. Suspense was very well woven.
Nina Bhupati had a perfect life. At least for the last ten years, she was living the dream life of every girl. She had everything anyone could ask for, a loving husband, luxurious life, and almost everything was a fairy-tale come true. “Suraj was a loving husband who always did whatever she had asked of him.” A few months ago, Gaurav’s life has changed drastically. Gaurav has had only one mission in his life since then, and he has dedicated all his time for months to complete his plan and punish his enemy. Gaurav has found where it will hurt his enemy the worst and he plans to attack his weakness, the one person whom he loves the most in his life, his wife. “He got her. His prey.” “But the fact that she fought back, shocked him.” Nina was devastated when the awareness of the situation dawned on her; she was kidnapped. But she was a survivor, a fighter. “She was the kind to win the war and keep her enemy guessing as to what the hell had happened.” She would not give up without a fight, no matter who her captor was or what his reason was. “Whereas her captor, although handsome, looked dangerous and unpredictable.” There was something undeniable passing between the captive and the captor, but they both refused to feel it or give it a name. Gaurav could not risk his mission for a moment of attraction. “He refused to feel anything for her.” On the other hand, Nina kept wondering about the reasons for her kidnap, but her heart didn’t believe her husband could be wrong, and she loved her husband. But the time she spent with her captor made her more confused. “Was her captor a good guy or a bad guy?” Gaurav had many reasons not to give in; he might put all his close ones in danger. His whole plan can be jeopardised. There were many risks involved but still, the temptation was too strong to ignore. “She was not only a married woman, but the wife of his enemy.” He was aware of all her plans and strategies to survive this whole kidnapping but still couldn’t resist falling for them. “He knew Nina Bhupati’s end game—she was aiming for his heart.” Of course, I loved the crazy ride of Nina and Gaurav. I just loved the book. This book is full of mystery and suspense. The passionate romance is the thing that is always there in MV Kasi’s book but the suspense was so amazing I just couldn’t keep the book down until I completed the whole book. I thought about numerous reasons for the kidnap but there was always more to it, it was mesmerizing how the suspense kept me wondering till the end. Even the name Radha confused me till the revelation, it might be silly of me but still, I misunderstood the whole thing and that created a lot of confusion in my mind. The writing was perfect; all the characters, plot, and everything were so impeccably. This book was amazing. And of course, I love MV Kasi’s books for their strong, badass female leads; it is admirable and adventurous to read a book with bold female leads. I recommend this book to every avid reader who likes to read a complete package of passionate romance, mystery, suspense, and thriller. It is the book for you. This book is worth your time.
A captivating & exhilarating story and totally unpredictable plot which makes it very engaging. In a signature MV Kasi style; this story has all the elements of suspense, thriller, drama, psychological mind games, solid plot and flawed & imperfect yet totally relatable and believable characters.
The story sucks you in and as you are thinking you have the plot figured out, the author effortlessly swoon the story in a different direction which hasn’t even crossed the readers mind . MV Kasi has beautifully written this story and carved the characters of Gaurav , Nina & Suraj . The characters retain their mystic aura, honestly I wasn’t sure if I should be trusting them on their face values or did they have some hidden agendas . The characters were complexed yet relatable and intriguing. As a reader I was able to feel their emotions and at times though I didn’t agree with why they behaved or did certain things but I could understand why they would do that in those circumstances. The story was fast paced and once you start you’ll keep on turning the pages to read what will happen next. The story was intriguing and very well written.
This is one of those books which you shouldn’t be judging either by its cover or by reading the blurb, you have to read the story to get the real experience . It’s truly phenomenal and brilliant story. I loved this exhilarating journey.
MV Kasi has raised the bars and proven yet again she can effortlessly weave eloquent storyline and complex plots and keep her readers on tenterhooks & in awe . She is truly a genius.
A must recommend! Can’t wait to read what this talented lady will come up with next .
Don’t ask me how I finished it with my schedule but I did and I’m surprised. So for context, I was a bit disappointed by this author because her books are a sort of a guilty pleasure for me… like I know they’re not well written or whatever but I still devour them. The point of disappointment was when a few days ago I was reading one of her others books and it was very much the same and Indianized version of another book which is my favourite and written by one of my favourite authors. So I read this book yesterday and today, I did not expect it to be so good ! But also I couldn’t help but wonder if this was also a copied version of some other novel and that’s why I deduced two stars.
This is the story about Nina & Gaurav. Surprisingly, It was very good. Nina was a strong character, she fought back for herself, her story was sad, she stood her ground, she was loyal to the people she loved. I did not see any fault in her character tbh other than the fact that she tried to run away that last day for some unknown or non-understandable reasons. I liked Gaurav as well. His story was pretty sad but there was something missing about him. His character didn’t shine as bright as Nina’s character in this story.
Overall the story was also done nicely. Like it was flowing smoothly, almost to the point where my brain didn’t even try to solve the plot long before the novel was done. It’s because I was enjoying it so much. The story kinda staggered in the middle where the only thing happening was Nina & G spending time together. I was waiting for some action to happen but that time spent together was also sweet.
I started this book because I was too bored by all kind of real life stories, incidents and biographies. The book is long but worth reading. It describes how poverty and exploitation bring the worst out of people.
It beautifully describes the relationship between a captor and captive bringing the stockholm syndrome into picture. The book alternates between the past happenings and current situation justifying each and every move. The description of the woods and its lifestyle (pollution free air) motivated me to chuck the city life and start packing my bags for a life in the woods.
Money is not equal to happiness is aptly described by this book but without adequate amount of money, one is vulnerable to a life of hunger, exploitation and crime. There are certain parts in the book which is not understandable while reading however it will all make sense once the suspense is revealed in the climax.
Note: I read this book while completing another book (SCAM by Debashis Basu). Such books help me sail through when I am reading heavy and esoteric concepts/books. If you are struggling to find a good thriller or complete any heavy book, I would recommend you to take this up.
I am stunned by how amazing this book was. And I shouldn't be shocked because MV Kasi has never disappointed me. I have loved them all.
The emotions of the characters plays a huge role in the main reason I was so invested in reading it. You feel what they feel. Their pain and suffering, their attraction and lust. The constant pull between doing right and wrong. The plot was perfect and I truly was blindsided so many times by the outcomes as they were happening. Nina and Gaurav had a rocky start. What with her being kidnapped by him and all but their attraction soon starts to reveal that the captor and the captive are both captives of their own growing emotions. Not only was this book dark, dangerous and suspenseful, it was also romantic, and steamy and with a deep, touching side to it. I cannot stress enough about how much I fell in love with not only Nina and Gaurav but all the other characters as well. And that ending was beautiful. LOVED IT!!!!
I really enjoyed this book. It's the first captive situation I've read about, it was dark, but not too dark. I did find it slowed down a little in the middle but there were three enormous twists I did not see coming near the end which totally amped the booked up and the epilogue was great. So as I look back over the book, the slower middle part was still definitely worth it getting to the revelations and end.
It's starts off as a typical Stockholm syndrome story. Honestly, I wasn't very hopeful. But you soon start to get engrossed in it. Nina is my kind of heroine - tough, kind and who never gives up. Loved the characters. Fell in love with Suraj and Gaurav both. There's a twist you won't see coming. And I have to say, this is my 4th MV Kasi book in the past week. I just might have found a new favourite romance author. <3
A fast-paced thriller which turns pages on its own. There is suspense, drama, LGBTQ angle, psychological twists, and bruised souls. The plot is neatly weaved and the ending is unpredictable. Another reason to read the book.
The protagonist Nina Bhupati is strong, intuitive and determined. On a side note, we need more female characters like her. Other characters are well layered.
A good read if you are looking for thriller romance. A 3 star/ 5
Quite a good story with different layers of connection, mystery, and romance. I do think the writing (grammar, sentence structure, word choices, etc) can be improved on because it pulled me out of the reading experience at times. The heroine is super likable and her back story made me cry multiple times. I honestly couldn't see how they could have a happily ever after the rocky start due to the abduction, but the author made it happen seamlessly!
It’s a different kind of theme. Although the storyline appeared to be good initially but later it got influenced by Bollywood twists & turns. It could have ended much earlier. Unnecessary story was dragged & that’s where readers loose interest. I have read Devil series of the same author where storyline is so intact that the reader doesn’t loose interest at any moment despite being a lengthy read. This novel is upto that level at all. However can be read just for the sake of another read.
One of the better offerings from M V Kasi. The story line is gripping and the narration taut. The story is a good example of Stockholm Syndrome where the captive sympathizes (and in the present instance falls in love) with the one who has held her captive. There is suspense as well that keeps the reader glued to the book
A pacy book, that mixes thrill, violence, drama and a lot of amorosity. The story proceeds linearly till almost three quarter of the book and then all of a sudden secrets are revealed and surprises are thrown. The denouement could have been better with less bollywood style drama & cliches and a pinch of rationality.
Story is nice, though nothing brilliant. But a quick light read between heavy demanding books. The twist in the end was good, absolutely didn't see it coming! Else I was planning on only 3 🌟
I picked it on a whim with no expectations. But I would read more from the author now, when i need something light and engaging to read
I am totally in love with Nina Bhupati. Such a strong character. Her character overcame both Gaurav and Suraj's character in many ways. She was sweet as well as fierce, true survivor. Gaurav and Suraj too were superb as characters. The Radha was quite a mystery. Each character was superbly portrayed.
A well written book. Interesting twists. Simple style of writing. I liked the fact there weren't too many characters. Yet it had enough sub plots to keep it a gripping novel.
I liked the story but if I hadn’t have promised I’d read it I would have stopped at the first f-bomb. I loved the story but the foul language does not add anything to the story. I don’t like that word but if it doesn’t bother you then it really is a great story.
As mentioned this is just a time pass book. Do not expect much. Though the initial parts to the middle are very much boring, the last phase are pretty entertaining and thrilling.
This is the first book i have read written by this author. I quite liked Kasi's style of writing - the way the characters were sketched out, the battles faced by each character in their respective lives were beautifully potrayed. Looking forward to read more books from this author.
This is MV Kasi's second book in a row that i read in last few weeks. I am hooked to the way this author narrates the story every time. Its an interesting romantic thriller plot. Not that intense and dark but one can surely enjoy the way story get unfolds.
Characters are well designed. Expected more from protagonist family like his memories with them. That was concluded in short passage. Ending twists are not expected.
3.5* Very unique setting for a dark mystery lover like me. I got experience something fimilar and intriguing but totally out of my element since the story took place in India!
The Captive made me captive...wat a refreshing story...it was really amazing with twist n turns...hope to read more...loved it...u the best...keep up the good work!!!
Yet another great book by M.V. Kasi! An intricate story of suspense, greed, corruption, love and an happily ever after transform this book into an unputdownable one. Highly recommended.
