I had trouble finding time to read over the last few weeks, and so just because it took me 2+ weeks to read this book start to finish, that should not be a reflection on my interest in the book. I liked this book just as much as the other books by the author. I just had zero time to read.
Book 4 continued along the same lines as the previous book. One of my favorite characters returned, which made me happy. The stories are slightly predictable and formulaic, but I find them easy to read. And I return time and time again because I like California's personality and her rough edges as she interacts with her Mom, her colleagues, etc.
Picking up with Cal in book 4 is like seeing an old friend after a vacation and getting back up to speed. Such a diverse group of family and friends, and devotion to each other. How can there be tough and dangerous times, then a warm bear hug feeling comes along. Thanks, D. D. VanDyke for giving us these stories.

Once again Cal Corwin tackles a mystery with her own brand of dogged investigation. The Cal Corwin books are action packed, move at the speed of light, and are a great read. This book sheds light on Cal's family and friends as she investigates a death that isn't what it seems to be. Terrific books, well written and extremely enjoyable. Recommend to anyone who likes female private eye books.
