Oh boy, Skeletitos is the cutest little book I've seen this year!

Learn to count with this sweet book that follows Skeletitos around the clock!

For one, the style alone is lovely. The dashes of colour among the black and white works really well and makes it stand out in the crowd. The elephant really stood out to me - I thought it was the coolest of the bunch (but obviously, they all are drawn wonderfully).

Another great bonus is the app and free activities. I think that's a great way to get the base audience involved and active with this book. It's also a great marketing tool (and as a marketing student, I LOVE seeing marketing tactics like this. It's smart!). Also, the song is in English and Spanish! That's a great way to encourage reading and languages! My inner education lover is singing with joy! Mostly in English though, my Spanish was never that great - thank goodness this song let's me sing along and learn the words.

I think this is a cute, little book that would be great around Halloween time. Young readers can count, sing and learn Spanish all at the same time (or learn English! But in my area, we mostly speak English). I'd highly recommend picking up this book if you have the chance! My best guess is that this would be better suited for young day care kids up to grade three. Or maybe for reading buddies!

My biggest criticism was based off my e-copy. The pages didn't always sync up correctly. That won't be a problem for the final version of this book, I'm sure. I received a proof from NetGalley for reviewing purposes.

Five out of five stars.

I received this book for free from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley and Encantos Media for the opportunity to read this sweet, little book!

This is a unique book. It extends outward instead of being a flip book. One side is Spanish while the other is English. It is a numerical book that is dedicated to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Los esqueletos estaban hermosos. (Beautifully drawn skeletons)

The pictures are black and white and very beautiful on a type of thick cardstock paper.... I'm not familiar with the song flow it's supposed to be but I enjoyed reading it to the kids and enjoyed the uniqueness of it.

The only reason it was a 4 instead of a 5 is that the story was a bit too simple.

This is the perfect book for this time of year. The illustrations are simply stunning. There's a great beat to the rhyme and it also teaches counting and time. Fun for all ages!

This little book is awesome. I read a digital version of it, but it looks like it has some kind of double pages illustrations that you can open up, from the actual normal size page. Anyway, this book is awesome because it has a cute little creepy vibes, perfect for Halloween, it present numbers, but also clock and hours which can always be useful to present and teach to kids, it also has rimes which make it fun to read at loud and it works a bit like an ABC book but with numbers from one to twelve. Original, imaginative and perfectly executed. Congrats to the author!!

This is a cute little counting/time telling book for kids with a Day of the Dead theme. It's apparently based on a Latin American nursery rhyme and it might work a little better poetically in the original (in times the rhyme and rhythm was a little clunky to read out loud). I read a digital ARC but it appears to have fold out pages and perhaps moveable clock hands, which would be great fun for kids. I love the striking black and white art with little punches of color. This would be an especially fun book for this time of year (fall and Día de los Muertos).

Another gem from author Susie Jaramillo! In this one, Jaramillo adapts the Mexican classic “Los esqueletos salen de la tumba” into English, keeping the clock striking and illustrating the book with black-and-white pictures inspired by the great José Guadalupe Posada, the man who gave the world La Catrina, patron saint of the Day of the Dead. What a joy to read! And what a beautiful introduction for those unfamiliar with El día de los muertos!

I loved her Little Chickies / Los Pollitos! I love this one even more! Highly, highly recommended.

I think something's missing reading this in e-book format. It looks like there are flaps to lift, and a clock with movable hands (which, of course, you don't get to play with as an e-book). That said, however, this is a decent book that might help kids learn how to tell time. It also functions as a counting book.

I think whether readers like this one is going to be a matter of taste (and perhaps culture). I find the skeleton drawings--as cute as they are--a bit macabre and creepy. They're almost all in black and white, with just touches of colour, so it's a very dark-looking book. (If you're expecting a Day of the Dead-themed explosion of colour like you'd see in Coco, you're liable to be disappointed.)

Overall, this is just an okay book for me. If kids are really into skeletons and/or Day of the Dead stuff, they might enjoy this more. Its real value probably lies in the counting and time-telling aspects.

Thank you to NetGalley and Encantos for providing a digital ARC.

I like this book because it tells you numbers and I think it's on The Day of the Dead.

P.S. There's a clock that you can play with.

Not quite your usual counting book...

It won't be long until midnight, so the Skeletitos (Little Skeletons) keep themselves busy as they count down the 12 hours before midnight. The number of Skeletons interacting with each other matches the time on the clock. Once midnight strikes, the 12 Skeletitos dance! Little hands will enjoy this book, as the hands on the clock can be moved as the book is read. At the end, they will love the flap to open that says essentially, The End. In-between is a book that can be opened in the traditional manner (turning the pages) or opened out until it is about ten feet long! The black and white illustrations inside feature a dozen different calaveras patiently waiting until the bell strikes "twelve".

The best part of this book? Turn it over, see the same illustrations, and read the same story in Spanish, unfolding pages along the way!

For PreSchool and lovers of all things Day of the Dead.

This is a very cute way for young children to learn their numbers up to 12. There is a rhyme and adorable illustration for each number and (this is hard to see on a digital version) it seems that there are fold-out pages throughout the book. I'm excited to add a book like this to our shelf.

This book is adorable! If your little one isn’t quite at the telling time phase yet it’s also perfect for babies because it’s high contrast. I could read this one to my little one over and over again because she’d grin at the pictures and coo away.

It is a illustrated kids poem.
Its about cute monsters, skeletitos.
Wonderful picture book for kids as they can easily read it's simple vocabulary.
It has 12 couplets about things our monsters do .
They love to dance and follow each other.
Artwork is fantastic. It is so complex but still symmetrical.
It is short interesting read that can get kids into reading habit.
Thanks netgalley and publisher for review copy.

I might be slightly obsessed with skeletons, skulls, dia de los muertos, and anything slightly macabre, so I was definitely excited to read this cute skeletito book. I was however slightly disappointed in what it delivered.

This books counts up the clock from 1 to 12, which is an excellent idea for a concept book because it not only teaches counting but also telling time! I love a good one-two-punch when it comes to early literacy concept books.

The art in this book is wishy-washy in my opinion. I think I love the color palette, which anyone that knows me would understand why (black, white, and a pop of color), but I think some the line work in the two page spreads need a little bit more attention. The overall look and tone of the illustrations are perfect though, and I love the clock and skeletitos. My favorite parts of the illustrations though are when we get to those two page spreads. The box and backgrounds with the words for the two pagers are so well drawn and there is so much detail it confuses me why the line work looks sloppy in the spreads.

I think the rhymes are a bit forces and the rhythm dies a few times. Trying to rhyme a specific theme to numbers is hard, but it has been done before. This one doesn't do it.

Writing: 3 stars
Art: 3.5 stars

My Thoughts
Who thought skeletons could be so adorably cute? If you did not think that yourself, then this book will prove you wrong. While I read a digital version of the book, it looks like the physical one has pages that fold out to include more of the stylish illustrations, as well as a clock with movable hands that I am sure will delight the young readers.

The book takes the reader from hour to hour as the clock strikes the time, and we have more skeletitos joining in the fun, dancing and jiving and partying their way across the pages, making every moment count (it simply does not matter they are no longer alive)! And I love that the message in the tagline- ‘Make Every Moment Count’ – is highlighted on each and every page of the book, in all the details!

The black and white illustrations are striking and detailed with a single splash of color that adds that ‘POP’ to each page. The text rhymes pretty decently for a translated version; does have some rhymes that seem a bit off but still great fun to read aloud.

Check out the website for fun activities, a sing-along app, a video to enjoy the fun rhymes from this book (with wonderful animation) and more.

In Summary
A totally gift-able book. It is a clackety fun way to learn time, the numbers, and about the Day of the Dead all the while enjoying the gorgeous, detailed illustrations.

When October hits and the leaves start changing colors and I pack away the flip flops, I know it’s time to pull out (and put on hold at the library) a stack of fall-themed books for the kids. The majority of these come in two flavors: autumn rituals and Halloween scares.

I’m glad to have something new to add to the mix: a beautiful Día de los Muertos numbers and clock-reading book.

Jaramillo recounts twelve hours of “skeletitos” rising and celebrating. The counting text has an addictive rhythm to it in the fashion of other fun number books. In addition to the numbers, the book introduces the idea of reading time by showing a clock for each hour as it counts up to twelve.

While the Day of the Dead-counting crossover is fun in itself, what really sells the book are the riveting, pencil-drawn illustrations. The striking skeletal forms have a kinetic grace to them, and they pop with striking colorful accents of purple, green, and orange. Jaramillo is a fantastic artist, and the overall visual presentation is festive and engrossing.

In all, it’s a fun contribution to any fall collection for toddlers, but one you’d be happy to pull out year round.

Skeletitos: Make Every Moment Count by Susie Jaramillo is a children's picturebook that reinforces time and counting lessons with fun rhymes. The Day of the Dead themed tales carry a comedic twist for kids, encouraging them to be wary, conscious, funny and self-aware.

Skeletitos: Make Every Moment Count is a beautifully illustrated picturebook. I love that the counting rhymes are memorable and simple. The fold out pages that offer a full illustration of the rhymes are lovely and I could spend my time simply exploring these pages. The details and attitude that shine through the pages is charming. I think that the song was simple, in the very best way, and when paired with the artwork offers an engaging book. I love that those that wish to explore further there is an app and website that allow readers to hear the song in english and spanish and continue learning with related activities.

This was such a cute idea and I absolutely love it. I remember learning how to tell time with little clocks drawn on a stack of my Tia's post-its, but this would have been such a good teaching tool in both time-telling AND Hispanic Heritage. I am a firm believer in letting kids know it's okay to embrace their cultures, and when it is made fun and not forced upon them as a cultural or familial expectation I believe they find it inviting and can make it fun! Wonderful book.

This is a darling Day of the Dead themed counting book. The illustrations are precious and the dance themed language would be so fun to share with a young child. I love the app and website activity tie ins as well. I gave four stars only because I wish it included more details on the history and culture of Day of the Dead, but it would be a fun book for a child already familiar with the culture or to pair with another, more detailed selection.

Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to view this arc, in exchange for an honest review. What an adorable book for basic time telling skills, bilingual fun, and dia de los muertos celebration!!!! The accompanying app is pretty neat as well, I believe the kids will get a kick out this and learn something new about a culture that differs from their own. We need more of this, specifically from Jaramillo!

The artwork is beautiful, but the text is just mediocre. However, it is a super cute book for the spooky season and also helps little ones learn numbers and telling time. I would recommend this book for little ones.

Skeletitos is a counting and rhyming book for yoing2 children and perfect for halloween.

I loved the single color pops on each page. It made the illustrations stand out. My favorite thing about the book was what looked like it would be fold out pages to expand the image which children will love!!

LOVED LOVED LOVED the illustrations, they were beautifully draw and had elaborate details for each character. However the story fell flat. It was mainly about what skeletons do at each hour of the clock, but i felt there was no real story line. I has highly disappointed as i would have love a book on sugar skulls and skeletons for younger children.

This book is so unique and fun, a great way for young children to begin learning to tell the time and to count. The illustrations are amazing, I love the black and white with the small splash of colour on each page. I also love how the book is designed with the flip out pages. I can absolutely see myself gifting this book.

I LOVED this book! The colors, the illustrations and the simple words were fantastic to read to my son. He enjoyed it as much as I did. The flip pages are something he enjoys in books and I feel this one would be a huge hit for him! Plus it’s skeletitos... so that is a bonus of awesome!
