Herschel Henderson said, "I do," to gain access to his wife's money, Lexington Lewis vowed for his better and her worse, and Brian Flaw meant until death do we part, yet none of them are dedicated to their wives.
Herschel has a mistress that he sexes more than his wife, Lexington is making love to as many women as he can, and Brian is sexing women of every ethnicity because he's become bored with his wife. The one thing these men do share, is the fact that neither of them will give up the sexual freedom they enjoyed as single men.
Why? Why? Why! Why do I keep on doing this to myself? I keep on.
So months ago, I put this book on hold at the library because I tried to read some of the Honey B works. They were waaaay to much for me, but I picked up this book anyway. Then let it sit in my vast home library, lurking like the creature that time forgot. Recently, I got an email from the public library in my area. Apparently, I owed like $87,000 in fines because I had never bothered to remember to read this thing and return it. I figured if I have to pay a half million dollars in fines, I might as well get something out of it.
And I did.
A knowledge that I can't keep reading these Honey B novels.
Again, I understand this is considered erotica, but can there be some plot between the threesomes, orgies at the sex clubs, and homoerotic scenes? Can the characters have a distinct voice? Can there be something happening besides the abortions and adultery?
But I don't blame Ms. Morrison, whose works I actually used to like. I blame myself. For not giving up.
What happened? To Ms. Morrison? She was always raunchy, no-nonsense, and real. And I knew that picking up her works. But lately, they have lost their appeal. Listen, as a Christian single gal, I have no business reading a lot of what I read. I understand that I am not the audience she is writing for. I understand that erotica is just that...erotic. But Ms. Morrison used to develop really good stories, great plots, intricate details in her novels. There was humor and suspense and real stories were involved. Each character had a voice. Like Fancy and Jada in her previous works. Enjoyable series and spin-offs came forth out of her mind--like Soulmates Dissipate. I enjoyed She Ain't the One, which she co-wrote with Carl Weber. And regardless of my conflict between my lifestyle and the ones portrayed by her characters, I could still read Ms. Morrison and enjoy her stories.
However...
In these Honey B. series of novels, I have to say that the erotic is now bordering on the chaotic. It's like the characters are flat, disappearing behind crazy sex and violence and confusion. It's dark, leaves you feeling empty, angry, and edgy. Frankly, I had to do a few yoga poses to keep from having a nervous breakdown.
Okay, so I am being dramatic. But I want to know. Is this really what Ms. Morrison is trying to do? Shock us until there is no way left to shock us? If she wants to shock us, I would prefer a strange twist in events or a mystery revealed in a way we couldn't possibly imagine--like she used to. Not just with crazed sex scenes. And believe me, I have seen it all. I am no prude. But even in the genre of erotic, that has to be a story between the sex scenes. And I am not saying that in this novel there was none...all I am saying is that whatever the story is, was hidden or eclipsed by the sex scenes, as in her other Honey B works. The plot was cliched--Husbands who cheat. The characters were described differently, but frankly I couldn't tell the difference between any of their voices or storylines--even the female character, Nikki, could have been any one of the "single husbands."
I will say though that I love the author's "editorials." I always enjoy her messages to her readers, her beauty tips (always holistic/natural) and her attempts at empowering women. I enjoy a lot of the poetry she places at the end of every novel. And I like that she doesn't try to be anyone but herself.
But I do miss Ms. Morrison's natural ability to draw wonderful plots and characters.
Three married men and friends behave as if they are single. As a premise, it was worth exploring.
Unfortunately, "Single Husbands" has something else in mind. Just what, I'm not sure. Despite being told from multiple points of view, with alternating chapters told in the voices of the men, I didn't feel I knew them any better at the end of the book as I did with the beginning. Their egomaniacal behavior swamped their identities and any other qualities they possessed. With the exception of Nikki, Herschel's wife, we knew little to nothing about their wives. We didn't know why they did what they other than they could. As these couples came together, split up and regrouped in different pairs, it's hard to care much. "Single Husbands" isn't a terrible novel, but it's not much of a novel as there is more sex than an actual story. I've enjoyed Mary Morrison's previous work, but this failed to deliver.
Mary "HoneyB" Morrison, started the novel "Single Husbands" off with an interesting perspective on marriage, and the concept that fidelity is not apart of marriage vows/contracts. She asserts that women too often get the short end of the stick in the marriage union. Much of her thesis, I actually agreed with.
After the introduction, and I am sure I am not alone, I felt I was taken on an all-out f&^%-fest. The few sentences in between the numerous sex-scenes (and there was a whole lot of them) seemed juvenile at times, and failed to create a cohesive storyline supporting the notion that most men continue to live a single life long after they are married.
Instead, we had men who spent more time having sex with random chicks, and very little if any time earning the money that made them millionaires, and even less time with their wives. And who are these women sexing men they don't even know. Whew! I couldn't even cheer at the end when the wives were supposed to be empowered to take control of their own destiny, or feel connected to the one female character, Nikki, who was the female version of the Single Husbands.
If you love erotica and don't need much else, "Single Husband" is a great read. But if you're like me and need a little more substance, you may want to pass on this one. However, I do highly recommend it for the wife out there looking for some new moves to spice up her love life. I am sure your husband will appreciate the effort.
Much Love,
Tracy

“Single Husbands” is the perfect title by author Honey B for this fast read that features three married men and their wives. This story throws the doors wide open on three marriages which from the outside looking in seems to be perfect, but we readers get a ring side seat to view what’s REALLY going on behind close doors! “Marriage vows…what’s that?” Could have been another title considered here. The couples all know each other and the husbands are best of friends. These marriages are put through the wringer as the husbands shamelessly disrespect their vows but feel they are doing nothing wrong. All are self-centered and have insatiable appetites for sex.
None of the characters had any backbone. I found it hard to believe that Nikki (who seemed to have all her ducks in a row) took the time to find out all the details on her cheating husband, but had no idea her lover Lexington had a whole tribe going on! I didn’t understand any of the wives, and we weren’t really given the chance to get to know Nikki, Michelle, and shallow Donna! I had a little hope for Michelle only to be let down in the end.
If you like scandalous drama with plenty of raw sex this is the read for you. For me it started off hopeful but failed to deliver anything positive in the outcome.

This book was missing a solid storyline. Basically, it was chapter after chapter of people having sex. I suffered through the book because I paid $22 for it.
UOmg this book was amazing. I don't understand why men people cheat its just crazy to me....Why did Nikki not want to be with Lexington at the end of the day like really... You went through all that sneaking around they did now all of a sudden Nicki don't want to be with him no more. Like who the crap does that like. In a way I feel sorry for Herschel because he is really in love with Anthony, but just don't know how to cope with it. I feel in the end its gone work out for him in due time. Donna is a real deal crazy person even though she has a great reason to be mad. I hope Brian get his self together and figure out who that women is blackmailing him. They did him dirty stealing all his clothes along with his and that lady's personality belongings. Further More Michelle's momma is a whole hoe for that set up she did on Brian but it was funny at the same time
⭐️: 4/5 🌶️: 5/5 From the very first sentence this story started off SPICY ASF! When I say this book was filled with SEX FRONT TO BACK babyyyyy. This story is about 3 friends who are married and love their wives but love cheating more than .. the twists & turns of this book had me on the edge of my seat, this book will have you with ya mouth wide open - definitely a little drama in btwn that will keep you hooked!
I actually didn’t finish the book I stopped reading it. It’s just one of those porn videos with terrible acting without substance in writing. I hated it.
I do not mind erotic books at all if they have substance..
Pretty decent reading if you’re fine with erotica. My only complaint is there were so many people involved it’s hard to follow who’s who or who did what some of the time. All in all nice reading.
This sexy tale of three single husbands is tantalizing, unpredictable, and repulsive all in one. The stand out couple is without a doubt Herschel and Nikki Henderson. Both are the headlining stars of this novel and the majority of the other characters are just their pawns. Nikki is a celebrity erotic sex recipe chef banking über-millions flying around the country taping television segments and showcasing her culinary skills for wealthy clients. Herschel is basically a kept man, living and taking care of his secret side family off of Nikki's bank account interest. Never once does this novel depict him going to work although he apparently has a white collar job and brings homes bread crumbs compared to his wife. That alone makes Herschel feel inferior and like he doesn't wear the pants in the marriage. He isn't far from the truth but then again he married Nikki for the wrong reasons to begin with, and is cheating on her with both sexes so maybe he deserves the way he feels.
Sexy dread locked gapped tooth Lexington Lewis has been married for 10 years to Donna. Sacrificing everything, she sold her thriving restaurant in New Orleans to relocate to Miami and marry him. She then popped out two children to add to the three illegitimate ones he already has just to be indemnified with neglect and constant almost blatant infidelity. Donna stopped having sex with her husband 3 years ago and seems to have let herself go, stays in the house, and always wears frumpy clothes with horrible bunny house slippers while begging Lexington to stay home with her. He doesn't, instead he opts to go to his favorite swingers club until the wee hours of the morning satisfying his unquenchable sexual thirst. He is also sexing his first and unattainable love every chance he gets. . . Nikki.
From the outside looking in Brian and Michelle have the supreme marriage. They seem sincerely in love and deeply connected. The only poised threat seems to be Michelle's mother. She is willing to do anything in her power to prove he isn't good enough for her daughter but is ignorant of their unequivocal vow of "to death do us part". I must say that I am most disgusted by Brain Flaw than any other character in this novel. Not only because of the obvious but because his outlook that the lighter the skin the better the person. Brain comes from a legacy of light skinned successful men that embed in their families head that dark skin is not necessarily bad, but not good enough, so Brain won't touch a woman with a tan. Just a tad offensive, especially since he doesn't seem to learn a thing this entire novel.
The plot is weak yet the erotica is the exact opposite, a little balance and this book would have been a lot better. I enjoyed the sex scenes but would have definitely loved for the characters to have been more developed. We met them all and rapidly have to figure out who was who, who was married to whom, and who was sexing who behind who's back. We learned a bit about certain characters and then almost nothing about others. Maybe there are too many characters and too many side and combined story lines? Or maybe the book was just too short to have wrapped it all up effectively. (Series?) Anyway, this novel closed quickly with many unanswered questions and I would have highly appreciated it if we could have seen all of these characters evolve, mature, and find some direction while even attempting to redeem themselves. Everyone except Brian and Michelle honestly appeared to be confused, and often changed their minds on heavy decisions. The foundation of this publication seems to be, the most popular marriage vows do not necessarily include being monogamous. "Forsake all others", can be subjective. Obviously, that doesn't make it okay to cheat but that sure did serve as a valid excuse in some of these character's minds. A part two is unquestionably in order. We need to find out what happens to insatiable Nikki. The reasons Donna stuck by her single husband for 10 years and why she seemed so brainless for almost the entire novel. And I'm quite sure there is a whole new book worth of stuff on Michelle and I can't wait to find out. The biggest question of all is were these woman also single wives?
I really enjoyed reading this book! They are not joking when they classify this as erotic friction. This has as much steamy, boy on girl, girl on girl, boy on boy and orgies action as one can squeeze into an under 300 pages book. The writing was exceptional and the story had a powerful message. I was hook and not just because of the erotica but the engrossing story that involved these tree men and their hefty sexapades with people other than their wives. After saying all this, though, I must say that it did fall a little short with the plot for me. I was looking for much stronger resolution in the end. Other than that It was a good read. Four out of five stars for me.
"Single Husbands" is a dramatic, sex induced, and hellish journey through the lifestyles and marriages, or lack thereof, of three men. Herschel, Lexington and Brian are three men etched from the same stone; they can't help but cheat. The men are far from knowing the definition of marriage or fidelity. This is the way they are and have always been. Why change because of marriage? The women stand their ground throughout, even though it doesn't change a thing. Each couples journey comes full circle and let's just say the men will never be the same.
I usually do not read erotic novels. Personally, I have nothing against them. In recent weeks, I reviewed "Spiritual Seduction" and rather enjoyed the writing style as well as the overall plot, which sparked an interest in the genre. "Single Husbands" goes one step further with it's realism and the ability to connect with the characters like I've never experienced before. There were so many moments I would think, "OMG, that happened to me once or twice." And I'm sure many women, and men for that matter, can relate to the situations that arise in "Single Husbands."
The language is a little over the top in some areas but fitting to the plot. I mean who wouldn't be down right ticked off if their spouse went to a sex club not once, but numerous times a week. The sex scenes were vivid and very descriptive, bordering porn, but were written in a realistic way. I have to admit many of the scenes were very smutty. But like I said, there are sex clubs involved. So if your looking for a clean romance type novel, this isn't it.
Honey B takes her readers through hellish marriages, causing the reader to ask themselves important questions about marriage, love, commitment, and self-worth. I was impressed by the powerful message the author had in the front of the book: "Educate, Don't Procreate." The introduction titled, "Is there a loophole in marriage vows?" is alarming. I have to applaud Honey B for placing a warning in her book as well. That's a new one for me, but definitely necessary.
Overall, "Single Husbands" is a fantastic read. It will make you think, rediscover yourself, and is quite empowering for women of all ages and race. I would definitely recommend it to readers who like to walk on the wild side in their reading choices or enjoy a steamy, sultry read from time to time. This book will positively light your fire.
have to give credit where credit is due and Mary B. Morrison aka Honey B is an excellent writer. The character's were real and the story was fast-paced.
It was about three men and one woman, all of whom have been married for 10 years and none of them are faithful. It was a wild ride into their sexual exploits and it is not for the weak at heart. I thought I was open minded and can usually read a book without being overly judgmental about the morality of the characters. This book proved me wrong. There were times I was shocked, repulsed and down right disgusted by the things the characters did. Herschel was the down-low brotha living the life of a single husband, sexing women when deep down he really wants to be with only one man. I think I like him the most, because although he was a heartless jerk, I feel I understood his plait in life. He felt unloved, unappreciated and he didn't really like himself.
Brian was a selfish, egotistical sex addict, who I believe loved his wife, but didn't feel the need to control his sexual urges.
Nikki was a cold, heartless man-hater. She's a successful woman in a male dominated society. She's lost, confused and somewhere a long the way she's lost her femininity. I believe she truly thinks she has grown testicles and gets pleasure from emasculating men.
Finally, Lexington is the black Adonis. He's successful and gorgeous on the outside, but weak and vulnerable on the inside.
They all have one thing in common. They think there measure of success can be bought, while inwardly the are empty and pitiful, but you won't feel sorry for any of them.
Like I said this book is not for the weak at heart and is extremely sexually graphic, but underneath the endless sexcapades is a really good story. It left me feeling thankful GOD that I love and respect myself too much to do some things. Well done Honey B!
I have won this book since March 2009, and finally wanted to read it. The cover looks like a modeling magazine, title is quite intriguing, and the introduction had me sold (with my gold highlighter when she shares her views on marriage, license, and things that should tie things together whether you are a Christian or not when you say I do!). However, she also has in bold lettering, warning...sexually explicit, which I do not typically read. So I may be setting myself up for temptation...or try to bypass the intense and explicit parts to get into the story is like asking someone to step close to the fire and as the flames rise, can get burned.
This is my first time reading this author, and just looking at the end and beginning, Honey B does have some strong viewpoints altogether. If I cannot complete the book, or dislike it because of its explicitness, I will not give a rating because I already know my reading limitations. I hope I can still get into the gist of the story and its true meaning overall. I didn't get much of a story just drama and sexual innuendos.
I completed the story through a lot of skimming; however it was quite hard to bypass the sexual content offered in the novel as well. So if you love erotica, then you will see much of that in this read. Yet the story didn't quite grab me and only delivered some of the things mentioned in the synopsis (premises) but surely the explicitness. It never told why the men did what they did, or much about their wives.
*Contest win 2009, reading 2014.
(Gave a rating since I did complete the novel minus erotica parts is fair review of an okay read because of missing connections to character's reactions and meanings for their sexual appetites in the story-line, also how the wives outlook overall).

PROS: Delivered exactly what I wanted it to give me in terms of DRAMA. There was soo much drama and even though the characters were not extremely likable, they had depth to them. I was interested to know what was going on in each person’s life and what was coming next no matter who was the focus of that chapter. CONS: I hated the ending…I was hoping that the husbands would get caught doing their dirt and the women in their lives would grow a backbone and leave their narcissistic asses. The men and the one female lead, were extremely disrespectful to their wives (and husband) and truly didn’t care about anyone but themselves. Also, the way that the book was written seemed to be written from a bitter, jaded woman that experienced this kind of betrayal and heartbreak and wanted other women (be it fictional to suffer) in the same manner. But the fact that they women at the end kind of just took the B.S and let the men off or just continued to make themselves look like unintelligent fools (although I didn’t think they truly were) was not the best way to end this story. I guess I just feel like I was getting built up to see strong women take control of their husbands or make them realize what they lost, and that isn’t what I got. The only person who got that ending was Nikki, who was also cheating on her husband, with his friend…It just felt like a book where the villain wins, but the villain isn’t even likable. OVERALL: It was an interesting book that was filled with lots of “sexytime” scenes and was entertaining, but if you’re looking for a comeback or some kind of women empowerment…it isn’t the book for you.

I am smack dab in the middle of this book. Call me naive or silly but I had no idea this was an erotic novel (LOL) seeing as I have never, before this book, read or even heard of Mary "HoneyB" Morrison. Getting over the initial "surprise" of that, I had to really laugh out loud at the review that said "this is NOT the kind of book you want to be caught reading in public." OMG, too true! I was on the train when I started this book and you should have seen my eyes bulge (like the trouser snakes of so many of the men in this book LOLLLLL) and the embarrassment I felt when someone would glance to see what I was reading. Never again will I take this book out in public.
The book is just okay. I NEVER, EVER read Urban Fiction (I hate it, really) but when I thought this book would have more of a substantial STORY to it, I figured I'd give it a try. At this point, I'm just accepting the book for what it is; an erotic, tawdry piece of juicy trash that promotes promiscuity in a fantasy world where there are no STDs (yeah, that really bothers me but hey, this is clearly FANTASY) and where heterosexual men can get away with wearing SANDALS and not be laughed off the block (note to HoneyB: Men in sandals is NOT sexy!).
This is just for FANTASY. Once you accept that, you're fine. Besides, it's nice to switch it up with what one reads every now and then.
Some of the language is too low-brow, repetitive and juvenile at thimes. If I'm going to read erotic fiction, I'd prefer a slightly more sophisticated use of language. Just slightly...step it up HoneyB.
Herschel, Brian, and Lexington didn't take their vows seriously at all. If one didn't know any better they would've sworn they were all single. Herschel had to face reality because he not only had an unhappy wife but also a baby momma, a lover, and occasional flings. He was doing any and everything while trying to figure out who he truly was. I wanted to punch Brian because he was wrong. Michelle went above and beyond to keep her husband happy but sometimes that wasn't enough. Knowing what Michelle's mom did was a bit overboard. Lexington realized how much he messed up in both his situations too late. He should've been making things right at home instead of finding every reason possible why he wasn't happy. Nikki was a straight up freak. She was trying to set Herschel up for a quick second but things quickly changed. She had other stuff going on and that's why she didn't push the issue much. I felt bad for Donna because she put with a lot but sure had a backup plan. Honey B and those sex scenes had me saying whoa! All three husbands had more than their share and no matter how many awkward situations they were in, they didn't slow down much. The guys were living as single husbands and experienced one thing after another. Some in which it made them either closer to their wives or realized it was time to move on. Overall I did enjoy this read.
umm this book was nothing that i was expecting. but i think the thing that made me lose respect for the author was the very last part of book where she was telling a little about her story. I do not condone cheating at all...and for her to admit and objectify the "its ok" or "its normal" attitude for having affairs, i do not like at all. I'm 22 years old and look forward to getting married one day and not ever will i make it seem like it is ok for my husband to sleep around and i will not respect any woman who knowingly sleeps with a married man. that doesnt mean that im neive to the thought that if he is going to cheat, then he is going to cheat but that is beyond my control. as a woman, where do you draw the line? where is your self-respect? where is your self-worth? where is your respect for other women? Are you that selfish? how are you ok with being second place? And don't get me started on the man! I believe if you don't want to be with someone, then why be there? I will not be reading another one of her books...not that the book wasn't interesting, I just dont like what it was behind.
Well, I think this is the last time I read something that one of my library coworkers hands me for a laugh. (That's a lie, I'll still read anything they give me. But this one really tested the limits.)
The characters spend so much time waffling back and forth and changing their minds that anyone who finishes this should seek financial compensation for whiplash. In one paragraph a character wants a divorce, and literally the next paragraph they're having sex like it never happened. Then in the next paragraph they propose to someone else, then after that they want to divorce both of them. There's a chapter where one character invites another to a sex club, then is upset when she actually shows up and wants her to leave?? I'm too mentally unstable for this.
To be fair, I'll say it's a me problem; urban fiction isn't my thing. This might be great for avid urban fiction readers, or maybe people who hate things that make sense. I don't know.
I'll give it a bonus star for including a couple bisexual characters and an attempt (as clumsy as it was) to tackle LGBT issues, though.
Very interesting perspective on marriages. Very steamy page turner. Only one who came out on top (no pun intended) was Brian. Herschel learned to be himself and accept who he was and stop lettng Nikki disrespect him. Lexington got what he deserved. Brian's mother in law went all out to catch him in the act and it ended up back firing on her because Michelle did not leave Brian. Like Nikki said Michelle already knew who Brian was and is. I think that once you understand who they are they you know what to expect. So Michelle knew what to expect and how to deal with her Single husband. Funny thing is this is not really fiction. This is how most men are. I am trying to figure out why Mary Morrison is writing under Honey B. What is the difference. Mary usually writes steamy books anyways. I guess Honey B is for risque.
This book was hard to review because it left me feeling so unsettled, but not in a good way. The book has a lot of sex, which I can appreciate, but it's not good sex. It's dirty, stanky, cheating sex and it did nothing for me. Also, the women in the book are a strange lot. Is this how Black women are really perceived? I believe so and it's sad. I was disappointed with the ending and honestly... I just didn't know what to make of it all. All of the nasty ass men got off way too easily and in my opinion, at least one of them should have been killed or infected with an STD but hey, it's not my book. Brian especially worked my nerves and his ending pissed me off but again, it's not my book.
This is the first book I have read by HoneyB. I knew this book was probably pushing the envelope a bit just by the vary nature of the title. I didn't like the way the story hoped all around, and I kept having to ask now who is this again? I think overall it tells an ok story about three separate types of married men (unfortunately all black married men). I think as women we know if we are dating/married to any one of these types of men. It's just a matter of what we are willing to admit and accept.
While I understand that Mary B. Morrison has a knack for pushing the envelope and keeping it hot, I'd hoped that she'd also include a story with some balance, a good plot and substance. I don't know if the story was lost in the writing, editing or if it was deliberate, but I like my sex with at least a nice slice of story. I think that this may be the last read for me and Mary. I'm sure many will enjoy her erotic tales, but I need a story to follow with my helping.
I am sure a few reader were shocked at the over the top sex acts. For me this Erotic fiction filled with drama was well written, you could feel the good, the bad and the ugly in each character. Even felt some sorrow for a couple of the characters. This story invoked anger, laughter and sadness, it was a page turner to see what these crazy characters would do next, not to mention who would do it next.
My favorite quote from the book is : "I'm very serious, mother".
I knew going into this read that it was an explicitly adult book..but wow wow wow on the twists and turns that occurred on the way! It definitely confirmed some thoughts I had about how married people think and are able to justify their actions. I would definitely recommend this book to those that ar naive enough to believe their spouse is perfect because in fact no one is perfect but most of us make an attempt to make our decisions with our and our spouses best interest in mind.
could've done without the explicit sex in this book...at times i wanted to burn this book but since i spent my hard earned money on this book, i suffered through it and finished. I have read books from this author under Mary Morrison and i liked those books but so far the books under Honey B have been tasteless. And i've really tried to give her a chance. ughhhh....
lots of gratuitous casual sex. good message buried underneath maybe a bit too much bootie. afterward, i wondered why, with all the across-the-board fellating, there wasn't some mention of at least one STD. I did appreciate the Tantric couple, Brian and Michelle. for the most part.
This book was so hard to get through since it was beyond bad. I thought it would be instering, but all the characters were terrible and I could not find one that I liked. I never want to hear about this book again. I think I lost brain cells just reading it.
