Saint by day. Sinner by night. Only a Christmas bet can save me.
I’m captivated.
From the moment she crashes into me, spills my drink, and tries to wipe my crotch clean, I know I want her.
But there are rules. By day, I’m Owen Driscoll, culinary investor and one of New Orleans’ elite. At night, however, I’m part of a secret society whose members are united under the shared lifestyles of wealth and dark fetishes: The Blackjack Club. My romantic escapades are limited to those bound by the confidentiality of The Club because outsiders are a financial, reputational, and emotional risk.
Tabby Rickard is most definitely an outsider. Her curvy figure, sharp wit, and quirky creativity don’t fit into my world—and that makes her dangerous to me. To us all.
The beast inside me doesn’t care. I must have her, must claim her as my own, to dominate her stubborn will and take her to the brink of insanity.
A hand of cards will seal our fate.
Will our Christmas bet be naughty or nice? Or will it bankrupt us all?
Alice Ward is the bestselling author of dozens of hot and steamy contemporary romances. She’s an amazingly prolific writer, releasing a new book almost every single month. Her books are widely read, especially by women and any other lovers of the romance genre. My Stepbrother, My Lover, was her first smash hit.
This book is cute, mainly because of Tabby. She’s quirky and takes no crap from anyone including the H, Owen. He’s the serious type but the h brings out his silly side which is refreshing from other books where the H has to stay alpha the whole time.
I was a little letdown by the club and the H’s “fetish”. I actually do not know if what was described was a real thing or not. My husband is a physician and I guess I will need to ask him but I’m guessing no. It was hard to follow and visualize anyway. So that storyline was meh for me.
Overall, no cheating, no current OW/OM and HEA is always a major bonus for me. This has all of that along with H/h chemistry.
I’m an Alice Ward fan and this book hasn’t changed my mind.
I received this ARC from the author in exchange for my voluntary and honest review.
Alice Ward amazes me yet again with her latest story. The hero, Owen, is INTENSE and multi-layered. Tabby, the heroine, is sassy, strong, and exactly what he needs in his life to balance out his intensity.
Owen, a billionaire investor, doesn't do relationships. Owen masks his true nature and personality behind a very cool, unreadable façade. He's a member of The Blackjack Club where he fulfills his darker sexual needs with women who've been vetted by the club and have all signed non disclosure agreements. Get the picture? Rules are established - sex is consensual and without strings. The women are auctioned to the men with the money going to the charity of the woman's choice. Tabby meets Owen at a casino at a hotel where her bridezilla cousin is having her wedding and reception. Tabby is the unwanted filler for a bridesmaid who could not attend at the last minute. How they meet is comical and Owen is hooked. They are so smoking hot attracted to each other and they have fun and flirty times together brought on by Owen making bets with her. Fantastic foreplay!
He breaks club rules by dating someone outside of the Club but he can't stop thinking about her and wanting her so he brings her to the Club where she signs the NDA. He's oddly committed to this rule and won't have sex with her without it hence his rush to take her to the Club. Tabby is intrigued with the Club's doings but all she's truly interested in and wants is Owen.
Tabby brings light, love, and happiness to Owen's business oriented and somewhat dark and regimented world. I loved how she brought out all the happiness, caring, and love out of Owen. It was quite enjoyable to see Owen coming out of his armor. Owen broke so many of his own rules because of his need to be with Tabby.
Alice wrote their relationship soooooo weelllll from start to finish. She again hooked me from the opening page to the very end. Highly engaging story with humor, multi-dimensional characters, 3 alarm fire sex with the best description of "subspace" I've ever read, a vindictive wench from the club, and an awesome ending. I loved it! Thank you, Alice, for another epic story.
DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING!!! Title: The Christmas Bet Author: Alice Ward Designation: Standalone Contemporary Holiday Romance, NO Cliffhanger, Happy Ending Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Four Sexy Stars**** **Disclosure: This title ends at the 45% location on my Kindle, but another novel by Ward is also included as a bonus. No page or word count is given but the blurb describes The Christmas Bet as a full-length novel but if so, it's a very short novel.
I became a fan of Ward's work last year and have read several of her books. This is the first story I didn't love. I liked it, but I didn't truly love it. The book was still well-crafted, but the story itself fell short of my expectations. By that I mean, the concept was good, the grammar was good, the formatting was good, the dialogue was snappy, and the narrative was well written with dual his and her first-person perspectives but for some reason, I didn't experience all the emotions I generally feel while reading Ward's work. Usually, Ward has me snickering, snorting, and sobbing throughout the book and I did laugh, but this story didn't make me cry. I didn't feel the sizzle in Owen and Tabby's relationship until the last few chapters of the book. I found it difficult to connect with the two protagonists, wealthy culinary investor Owen Driscoll and sassy photographer Tabby Rickard and without engaging characters, the best story in the world will fall flat., which brings me to another point. I also felt the primary conflict was a little weak and not as well defined as it could have been. I realize this is fiction but in contemporary romance, readers generally expect the details to be more realistic which I didn't find to be the case in this instance, especially the requirements for the women allowed inside The Blackjack Club. Only signing a nondisclosure agreement is not vetting a person. Personally, if a man told me he couldn't date me unless I signed a nondisclosure agreement and attended some mysterious club he couldn't tell me anything about, I'd run for my life. I believe in taking a chance on love, but I also believe in acting responsibly. It was just a little too far-fetched without enough development. Plus, after all the buildup, Owen's secret sexual proclivities were a bit of a letdown and certainly not consistent with his behavior when he was with Tabby. I get it; Owen was a sinner by night but a paragon of virtue by day, preserving his business and wealth by protecting his reputation. I understand what the author was going for in this story but unfortunately, the sizzle fizzled. But my biggest disappointment was the fact I bought this book because I was in the mood for a Christmas story and with the title, The Christmas Bet, I assumed it would be a 'Christmasy', but I didn't get a real holiday vibe at all. For me personally, the Christmas magic was missing. Yes, there was a bet made, several actually, and yes the story took place during the holidays, but that was about it.
So, did I love this book? No, but I did like it. Was it perfect? No, but as is the case with all Ward's books, it was well crafted and entertaining. Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language and sex. After all, this is an Alice Ward story and she does write some of the steamiest, dreamiest sex scenes ever! lol... Will I read this author again? Of course, every single book Ward writes can't all be my favorites. And finally, was I entertained? Definitely! Nothing like a little steamy Alice Ward romance to brighten my day!
Alice Ward has this wonderful talent to write stories that express so much –from the plot, to the characters, even the sizzling chemistry is portrayed perfectly. In this story “ The Christmas Bet”, Ms. Ward does it again with her alpha hero Owen and her sassy heroine Tabby. This amazing couple are so opposite yet that is what makes them work as a couple. Tabby's in town for her snobby cousin’s wedding and that is how she ended up in Owen’s world. Owen is dominant, dark and delicious while Tabby is light, sassy and sweet. You would think they wouldn’t work but that is so not true. Owen’s club plays a part in their relationship and all I can say is they have this connection and the chemistry between them is electric, sizzling hot. Tabby brings Owen out of his shell and shows him the meaning of the word “happy”.. but does he want to take a chance with her? This is one story that was perfect for the holiday season and I loved the ending of this story. Ms. Ward wrote such a fantastic story with a great H/h along with a great plot , steamy sex and characters that really interacted well with one another. I look forward to reading what she writes next.
My Rating: 4.5 stars ***** “I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."
Alice Ward is one of my favorite authors, but for the first time, the advance copy I read of this book left me less than overwhelmed. It’s very well written, as all of her books are, and professionally edited and proofread, which can be an exception in the indie publishing world. I just never felt the soul-deep connection between Tabby and Owen that I’ve come to expect in Ms. Ward's books, so the sex, while still steamy, felt more like it was there just because, rather than building the emotional connection between the main characters. Tabby was a bit of a disappointment, not standing up for herself and making decisions a strong woman would make, until the very end of the book. And Owen had this big secret fetish that when revealed didn’t seem all that kinky, and I never understood what drove it for him. Still, it’s an entertaining read, and fans of Ms. Ward's won’t be disappointed, but if this is your first foray into her work, you might be more satisfied with any of her other “The" books (List, Surprise, Gamble, Hunt, etc.) or one of the books from her Beasts of Baseball series.
Owen is an intense and complex alpha, who is totally intrigued when Tabby bumps into him literally, and spills her drink all over his crotch. Tabby is a strong and feisty character, who is overwhelmed by this incident and runs away from the intensity. These two are a perfect compliment for each other, but will Tabby accept the bet? No spoilers; this is another absolute must read, you will certainly not be disappointed! This is a wonderful storyline, which is sexy, fun, and an entertaining read. I always highly recommend this authors’ work for all, and I cannot wait to read more of her work. Fantastic Alice!
Tabby and Owen are an amazing couple! They fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. But they couldn't be more different, unfortunately. And that's where their problems spring from. Tabby's in town for her stuck up snotty cousin's wedding and she falls into Owen's world. What a world it is, something she's never been a part of before.
Once again, Alice takes us into a couple's world, a couple we can't see working out but she lures us in and makes us see that despite their differences, they are perfect for each other. I don't know how she does it but she is so very good at it. One of these days, I'm going to have her write my life story and just maybe she can improve it (just kidding)
The Christmas Bet is now one of my favorite books by this author! Owen didn't think he was looking for the right woman, but the instant he saw Tabby, he was utterly smitten, so much so that he was laid down a bet, knowing that either way he'd come out the winner. Tabby was ready to strangle her cousin Grace, and Owen provided the perfect distraction for her, yet, he was so much more. I loved this book - even when things took a bad turn, I was thoroughly engaged and couldn't wait to see how things panned out. This was a sexy, seductive book, and it was absolutely fantastic!
Great story!! Absolutely loved this one each book by Alice Ward gets better and better!! Tabby is a stubborn, knows what she wants woman and that at the moment is to survive this weekend from hell as a bridesmaid at her cousins wedding. Then she meets Owen who generally is only interested in one type of woman but something about Tabby intrigues him and he’s immediately mesmerized by her. Neither are looking for the other but fate decides otherwise and their tale begins!
Great story and amazing! There is plenty to keep the reader invested and wanting to read more!
I would recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing story!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of The Christmas Bet.
The Christmas Bet by Alice Ward is a well written, sexy and very enjoyable read with a great storyline, interesting characters, instant attraction, sizzling chemistry, humor, and hot sex with some kink.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
Humor, intensity, hotness, honesty, secrets, magnetism, distance. So much to bring these two unlikely characters together and yet also keep them apart. Will their passion drown them? Will their enemies succeed in tearing them apart? Will the darkness of desires swallow them both before they can come to terms with it all?
When Tabby is in NOLA for her bridezilla cousin's wedding she bumps into Owen Driscoll quite literally and he's thrown for a loop. Not only is she nothing like the type of woman he typically gravitates toward, she has no idea how alluring she is. She's also unaware of the shadows Owen usually hides behind within the secrecy of his Club to meet his specific...needs. But after she appears and then just as quickly disappears he's determined to introduce her to his brand of wickedness.
Owen is enigmatic and interesting and intriguing. He quickly wins over Tabby's sense of humor with his quick wit and banter and she finds herself unable to stay away from the handsome man. He's hotter than sin and she's discovering something warm, hot, and decadently base within herself that is connected to the man she can't resist.
Things move deeply rather quickly between them with both of them bending their strict rules of intimacy in favor of getting more with each other. The introduction of The Blackjack Club opens doors for both of them and it's unclear through much of the story the purpose of the Club both for Owen and on its own. I mean, I kind of get what it does but what it's accused of being near the end is basically the truth, the truth that any good lawyer would call slander but still an unspoken truth. Despite that, though, I thought it would play a larger role throughout the story and not just be a cause for drama, splitting, and then reconciliation between the MC's.
I was expecting something darker and seedier, much like Tabby, when we are first introduced to The Blackjack Club. I also had some predictions about the Club versus the organic relationship independent of it. In both cases I was glad to be wrong. While there were some elements that were reminiscent of The Mask with the secrecy of the club and its purpose, it only shared a couple of characteristics. This eased my mind quite a bit right along with Tabby's but there were other secrets being kept that threatened the transparency required for relationship longevity.
As for Owen's desires, well I won't say they weren't dark, but they weren't nearly as harsh as was being built up. They played a minor role in the whole scheme of things and didn't even get a lot of page time despite how often they were alluded to both internally and out loud by Owen.
What I appreciated about this particular character pairing was the banter, humor, and organic way that the relationship grew. Owen had his rules and was trying his best to bend himself and Tabby's situation around to suit them but it never quite worked. It only found satisfaction when the rules were fitted around what they were already building outside of his past's rigidity. They were so cute together with all the tickles, joking, wit, and openness. There were secrets, yes, but they weren't insurmountable once shared. The drama and angst came from an expected source and the resolution was both amusing and empowering on Tabby's part.
There was so much to like about this story and while it wasn't my favorite book by this author, it was a solidly enjoyable story with a sweet and tender ending that spoke of so much love and understanding for their future. While not exactly an HEA, it was deeper and definitely more than an HFN and it felt right for the characters and the story as a whole.
Everything had to be aligned in the universe for their paths to cross in such an "unusual way" ... and what better place for it to happen than Harrah's of New Orleans. It would seem fate has a sense of humor.
She was not her cousin's first pick for a bridesmaid and she certainly did not want to be there. The financial investment alone put a cramp in her very tight budget but that was nothing compared to Grace, her bridezilla cousin! When she had enough of Graces' controlling ways, she took a break from the whole dramatic show. That's when she ran into HIM. Literally RAN INTO HIM in the casino at Harrah's of New Orleans. That's where she was planning on spending some quality time worshiping the cards and slots instead of dinner with Grace and her pretentious friends.
He was gorgeous and obviously rich. His suit probably cost more than she made in six months yet one distracted moment was all it took to get her on her knees, polishing the front of his pants...in an effort to remove the blossoming stain moving across his pelvis. Right there in plain sight of everyone around them in Harrah's. The attention didn't bother her, that is, until she realized "what" she was polishing : )
Owen inhabited different circles and a different life style. He was wealthy, held in high esteem and ran with others of his kind...yet he was captured by her innocence and her attention to detail...not that he minded either. When Tabby realized what she was doing, she made a hasty retreat and when she thought she was far enough away from the accident, she settled down to enjoy her game time. Unbeknownst to her, Owen was watching her. Game on. And this is where the story really begins.
The reader is about to fall in love with Tabby and Owen while watching their interactions that take place over the next few days. He doesn't "date" but he can't stay away from her...she distracts him. She is not impressed with his money and she has a sassy mouth that drives him wild. Tabby holds her own space and isn't intimidated by Owen because she is comfortable with who she is and is not out to impress anyone. She is sweet and soft and he is totally mesmerized by her and his business partner and others notice the change.
And when you least expect it...WHAM! Things shift. Something is amiss and it will be disasterous. Will they be successful? You will be pressed to the pages of this novel, loving the interaction and changes taking place with these two souls as well as everyone around them. If you are a fan of love, witty banter, steamy moments, hearts on fire and a strong measure of other things swirling in the mix then you will love this story. I devoured the reader copy as fast as possible, then sat a while thinking about the genius of putting such a well developed story together and have to say I am, once again, very well pleased with Alice Ward and her very vivid imagination and her ability to engage the reader with this delightful story. The perfect Christmas present!
So many favorite lines, like: "From the logistics to the cliches, my weekend in New Orleans with Owen Driscoll had only one possible classification -- fling. God, I wanted to be flung again."
This is an impassioned romance that follows Owen, an investor who keeps his emotions detached from his physical pleasures, and Tabby, a photographer who's only in town for the weekend. Owen is instantly enamored of Tabby because for all her quirky adorable way she's entirely unlike any other woman Owen has ever met. Through a series of bets, they scratch the surface of each other's lives - just enough to cement their attraction but not enough to make her stay when the weekend's over.
At it's heart, this story is really about their long-distance relationship - he's in New Orleans, she lives in Chicago. But it also centers around the rules that Owen has kept in place for himself to protect his heart and his reputation, as well as the standards Tabby has set for her own self-respect. There are a couple secrets that stay buried until the end of the story, and the revelation of one sets up the dramatic showdown as the book's climax.
Tabby is a delightful character, true and honest to a fault with a wicked sense of humor and not easily offended. She's more than a match for Owen, and is not the least bit intimidated by nor interested in his wealth.
Owen has been protecting his heart for years, because all the women he meets want to better themselves through their association with him. Tabby is the first woman who actually makes him want to be a better man himself. His emotions are carefully stripped away as their relationship deepens until his heart, his reputation, and his entire life is laid bare.
This author's writing is brilliant. Not only is the story well-crafted and beautifully told, the lyrical writing style is completely captivating. Here are two of my favorite quotes:
"She had a story, and knowing her was like watching the words being scrawled upon the page and waiting with bated breath for the next chapter."
"The clock, an exquisite piece from Germany, had to be wrong because it was claiming that I still had an hour before I was supposed to pick Tabby up to go to dinner and The Club, but my phone and my alarm clock told me the same lies so I had to believe it. When had time developed a sense of humor?"
Such a beautiful way to express Owen's romantic, emotional side! The entire book is simply an enthralling journey expressed in prose. There are a couple minor timeline inconsistencies and the villain was easily spotted and defeated, but neither affects the overall impact of the story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Not my favorite Alice Ward book, but still a delightful Christmas romance that is quite interesting and intriguing. The story grabbed me from the beginning with the chemistry between Tabby Richard and Owen Driscoll. Smart, sassy Tabby is unimpressed with Owen and all the wealth and luxury surrounding him. He’s intrigued and wants more of her, but Owen has a rule about women outside of his secret club. The Blackjack Club is Owen Driscoll’s means of safeguarding his lifestyle by only dating women vetted through the club, with each woman signing an NDA (non-disclosure agreement). It’s the biggest secret most of the wealthy men and women of New Orleans keep to hide what really goes behind closed doors to their club.
For me, I thought the middle part of the story dragged on. There was way too much buildup around the mystery surrounding Owen’s fetish which he hides from Tabby until she is part of the Blackjack Club. And even after visiting the club, it took too long to reveal that part of himself. Although, when Owen does open up to reveal his sexual proclivity, it was pretty hot, but still, I thought there would be more to it.
The ending picked up the pace when a jealous ex-lover exacts revenge on Owen, Tabby and members of the club. I loved the resolution to that dilemma, but no closure to the scandal she creates. All in all, a very nice story. Intrigue, mystery, great banter, jealousy, betrayal, and hot smoking sexy goodness. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Holy wow, I loved this book! I loved how very perfectly the protagonists, Tabby and Owen, immediately played off of each other; their banter was priceless and hysterical all at once. Once the romance started the steam factor sailed through the roof. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and heartily recommend it. The rest of my review might contain mini spoilers.
Tabby was quirky, smart, funny, and I really liked her integrity. She was a free-lance photographer in New Orleans for her cousins wedding when she literally ran into the Owen.
Owen was also smart and funny, but due to his past he was wary of relationships. After getting to know Tabby, though, he decided to try once more.
Owen was a member of a very exclusive club for the wealthy, powerful, probably bored, and definitely kinky. He had a certain kink that was danced around for much of the book, and with the way it was kinda built up I was actually worried it would be somewhat horrible, but it wasnt at all. In fact, he was quite tender and caring after demonstrating it to Tabby.
Part of what I loved so much about this book was that the characters didnt just display super strong sexual chemistry, but they became emotionally synced to each other. They were sweet, loving, funny, and fit perfectly together. Even when the unthinkable came knocking they worked together.
Sexy and Humorous – Will never look at betting the same way again!!
Photographer Tabby has become a part of her annoying and spoiled cousin’s wedding when another girl cancelled. Rather than go to dinner with the gaggle of pretentious friends Tabby slips off to pursue some solitary gambling. On the way she slips, spills a drink in the lap of a smooth voiced male. Embarrassing herself by not thinking and trying to wipe up the spill, she scurries away.
Owen is an investor and one of New Orleans elite. He would normally not pursue anyone outside The Blackjack Club, but he finds himself intrigued by the clumsy, yet attractive young lady who just spilled a drink in his lap. He challenges her to a bet; if he wins she comes with him to his club, if she wins she gets to photograph his newest investment restaurant.
As these two play their games, we are treated to further bets and a growing attraction. Will Tabby accept the happenings at the club and Owens reasons for attending? When Tabby returns home is that the end?
Clever dialogue, great characters, complex story line and sizzling romance all combine to create a tantalizing story!!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Oh, Tabby. You’ve taken refuge in the casino. All in the name of escaping your cousin, Bridzilla-the-graceless-Grace. Which turned out to be a futile effort anyway.
But then there was that guy… You knew you were in trouble the second he blew your circuits in the casino… even before you saw his face or knew his name-- or inadvertantly grabbed his… Aand, time to run and hide again…
And, oh, Tabby! If you only knew what Owen is thinking! How could you guess he’d hunt you down?
And now, I’m laughing so hard I almost can’t read the rest of the story… But what a shame that would be-- so I take a deep breath and dive back in. Because with this author, I just have to follow the breadcrumbs and see where they lead. And I don’t want to miss anything!
And through the course of their weekend fling… Layer by layer, step by step, Owen and Tabby reveal themselves to me. I’m charmed. I’m vexed. I laugh out loud at inappropriate moments. I even stomped my foot once. I turned on the tree lights and played Christmas music-- loudly. And just like Christmas, I was sad when this book was over… 5 stars.
There’s a lot of emotion bouncing back and forth between Tabby and Owen. She’s so independent and sassy. And just so completely herself, that even when she’s fighting back the urge to tell her snobby, bridezilla cousin to take a long walk off a short pier, Tabby’s doing it in her own inimitable style. I found Owen to be a very different kettle of fish. He’s alpha, but there’s a sweetness in the way he interacts with Tabby that brings the usual dominant, arrogant, male alpha-hole persona we expect to see down several notches. The two of them together are surprisingly playful, and I loved how they made me laugh. I think I understand the function of the Club in the story, but it and Owen’s particular ‘preference’ came off a little flat for me. I especially didn’t understand why he was so concerned about letting Tabby know what made him tick. I loved all of the emotion, drama, and tension that fill this book, and I can’t wait to see what the author has for us next. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
Tabby a freelance photographer from Chicago goes to New Orleans to be a bridesmaid at her cousin’s wedding. She accidentally bumps into Owen a handsome billionaire at a cansino. Owen immediately is attracted to Tabby. He finds Tabby personality to be intriguing especially when she makes sarcastic comments. He comes up with a gambling bets just so he can continue to see Tabby. She wins the bet and gets Owen to be her date at the wedding. Owen introduces her to the Blackjack club, a secret club that auctions women in a form of donations to their charity. Tabby and Owen can’t denied the attractions they have for each other and tries to keep their long distance relationship. But someone had exposed the Blackjack club to the media and Tabby became the main suspect. Tabby has to find the real culprit to clear her name and help save Owen’s reputation and investments. I enjoyed this book very much. It has romance and hot sex. I give a thumbs up to author Alice Ward!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Tabby is in New Orleans to attend her cousin's wedding. While her cousin is very demanding, Tabby manages to escape for a bit, but when she does, she runs into Owen on the casino floor. She immediately feels a connection to him, but has no time to think about it. But Owen has different plans, he wants to get to know her and keep seeing her as much as possible. He wants to take her to the Blackjack Club, can he win the bet so she will go with him?
Owen is immediately drawn to Tabby and lays on his charm to try and win some bets with her so she will eventually go to the Blackjack Club. But when she decides she wants to go, Owen's former lover, Pippa, gets jealous and things turn ugly and quick. Can Owen and Tabby solve this together? Or will Owen give up?
This is an interesting story and shows that sometimes a bet can be an excellent idea to get to know the other person. This story is funny, but has elements of drama, scandal, love, lust, romance and a HEA. I received an ARC of this book from the author.
Another fantastically, hot read! Owen knows how to be naughty and bring you the pleasure you never knew was possible.
Tabby is in New Orleans at her bridezilla, cousin’s wedding. She literally runs into Owen in the most awkward of ways. She’s so embarrassed she takes off.
Owen is intrigued by the woman who spilled a drink on him and proceeded to clean it off his crotch right on the casino floor!
He can’t forget her, so he seeks her out. He makes her a bet with the purpose of getting to know her better. And the bets keep on coming. The only thing is, Owen is breaking his own rules. He doesn’t date anyone outside The Blackjack Club for his own protection. So maybe its time for Tabby to visit The Club.
Tabby’s a strong-willed, witty woman who knows her own mind. Owen’s a sexy, business man who likes a little kink that will bring you ultimate pleasure. Such a fun holiday read with lots of smokin’ hot sex and a great storyline that I loved.
When Owen meets Tabby he knows he has to have her but he has rules and until she part of an exclusive club he tries to resist. His resistance is futile and soon the two are together but someone wants to keep them apart and will do anything to ruin him and make Tabby doubt him. A great steamy read that has a lot of bets going on which had me holding my breath to see who would win. I also enjoyed the fact that Owen had complete faith in Tabby and never doubted her and that she would go to great lengths to prove herself to him. I just didn’t understand what his fetish was, there was a build up to why he doesn’t date outside of the club and that he has certain needs but I must have missed the reasons and what it was. Otherwise it was a great read that I thoroughly enjoyed including these two together...the dark and mysterious man and the feisty kitten. *I voluntarily read a copy of this book and expressed my honest opinion*
Another hot Alice Ward romance wherein a regular albeit stunningly beautiful career girl runs into (literally!) a powerful, handsome and sexy guy who is not looking for commitment and sparks ignite! A 4.5 star romance for me because I was a bit underwhelmed by hero wealthy investor Owen's "dark" needs in the bedroom. I did not understand why they were worthy of tight-lipped secrecy?! And a central point of the action is another private club for wealthy men looking for their jollies with women auctioned off as companions. Not a favorite trope of mine, but that's just me, I guess.
By keeping most of the focus on the couple and a few close friends and employees (plus the requisite villain), their growing connection makes for some steamy reading and their playful banter gives a believability to the other facets of their attraction.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Everything whirls around a bet but how do the characters come to this unusual beginning ? Very simple, they run into each other at a casino. Tabby is the bridesmaid at her cousins wedding and is running away from her and Owen is staying at the casino having fun. Their encounter is hilarious and Owen is soon smitten by Tabby’s innocent and fascinating charm. Initially it may seem that it’s just a one time fling but Owen is absolutely obsessed by her and through this famous bet he introduces her to this exclusive club where men have particular tastes. Without revealing further information I just want to say that this is another fantastic read from Alice Ward. Both characters are quite different from the other characters in her previous books firstly because the male character is an alpha male with a touch of boyhood inside. On the other hand Tabby is simple without any sophistication and both make the perfect couple. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. Excellent well written story with excellent strong characters as usual. I loved, at first, the way Tabby thinks, tries to do the best she cans to support her awful cousin because of her wedding, to be a good family girl despite what she thought of the bride. When she meets Owen we really discover her. The way they seduce each other is quite unusual, but it seems so normal when you read it : Owen tries to go in a private club with Tabby (because of his personnal needs), but he can’t convince her, so each time, he bets her to going with him to the club. When he loses, he wins something else in their relation. I was just a little disapointed because I would have liked a closure between Tabby and her cousin, and to know what happens to Tabby and Owen after…
Wanna take a bet on tour life? Need some romance? Want something steamy? Well this is definitely the type of book you should read. Tabby is a very down to earth no risks type of girl. Owen leafs a high stakes life in and out if the bedroom *Wink* They meet at a casino where shes been practically forced to be in her cousins wedding. He feels an instant connection to her. She’s intrigued with her quick wit and smart attitude. Here comes a christmas bet when neither is ready to let the other go. The book flowed nicely, like a real life story would, not oh just days ago.. blah blah blah. I enjoyed hearing about both of their lives. How we all get entangled with each other. I pretty much always wish Alice’s books were longer. Those endings keep me wanting more. I read this book voluntarily for an honest review. It was a good read and i do love me some streamy scenes. Enjoy!
In this unique, fast moving storyline, with a heart squeeze factor times two and plenty of detailed sexiness that left me wanting more- Tabby a freelance photographer, at her horrid cousin's wedding, meets Owen, a restaurant investor, and abetting man, whose not worried about losing against the feisty Tabby, because either way he wins.
An intriguing story by Alice Ward, I was quite taken by Tabby and Owen's story! Surprised by the twist of it all, how it did not go the way these storylines usually do- it was a nice change of pace, giving the H, even more, yummy points in my opinion while making the journey to love between them that much more fabulous! A sexy, sweet heat, hug it out, hot Holiday romance to warm up you up on a cold day! One I suggest checking out for yourself!
Loved, loved, loved, this book! Is that enough "loves" to show how much I enjoyed this book? This is only the second Alice Ward book I have read although I have had a couple sitting in my Kindle library for months!!!I. After reading "The "Surprise" and this book I am so hooked on her writing!!! I love her characters.....They are so interesting and compelling. The story line of this book was very unusual and intriguing. Hot, steamy romantic, sweet.... All of these apply to this book! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see where the story was going next. Very little fabricated angst also which I feel is the benchmark of an excellent author. Read this book now if you want to be thoroughly engaged in a story and greatly engrossed for hours!!!!
