This is the point where Nath stops being so naive, and overly trusting. Almost to the point of being paranoid.
After the events of the 1st book, and as you can ascertain from the title & cover; Nath has been enslaved as basically a laborer in a rock quarry. It's this stint [a little over 2 years] where Nath finally starts coming to grips with the fact that life outside of Dragon Home is no picnic. That the world isn't fair, and not everyone has his best wishes in mind. As we could have predicted Nath is learning the hard way everything his Father told him.
The first half, or so of this book is somewhat of a bummer, as we are right alongside Nath stuck in the slaver camp/city. His days are full of back breaking work, and being tormented by his keepers. No spoiler, but Nath eventually gets free of his captors, and sets out to pretty much get revenge [because of course] against the members of The Black Hand that swindled him in the first place.
The main big bad thus far Darkken is a very captivating character. As we saw in book 1 he has a vested interest in Nath's development, and is doing his damnedest to mold Nath into what he wants him to be, so they can stand side by side to get rid of the other dragons. In this book we find out Darkken can change his appearance at will[!] either completely via magic to become an entirely new person in every way, or more mildly with a simple illusion. It really ratchets up the mystery when Nath starts getting hoodwinked where we have to wonder: Is this person Darkken in disguise manipulating things further?! Great stuff.
Yeah, I am all in on this series. The only reason I knock off a star is the portion with Nath enslaved is a bit of a downer, and his now seemingly over-active paranoia towards everyone he meets moving forward. It's expected considering what has happened to Nath thus far, and I know it goes away as he learns the nuances of civilization. However, it's annoying when someone who [legitimately] is trying to help Nath by pretending to get cozy with a member of the black hand for information, and Nath is immediately yelling "Traitor!" ruining everything. He still has some growing up to do...

Gotta read this!!!!!
Loved this book! Getting to know Nath Dragon is exciting! Adventuring with him as he learns about the world outside of his home is fantastic! I really enjoy the way Mr. Halloran writes, he just sucks you into this world that he has created and makes it almost impossible to put the book down!

Engrossing
Another enthralling book in the Bath Dragon series. From the first one throughout the masterful storytelling Craig Halloran does so magnificently, he has kept me entertained through each adventure. Masterfully done!

Darn
I absolutely abhor cliffhangers. I know that Nath Dragon will overcome this dilemma but I hate to have to wait. I become completely immersed in a story and just want to keep reading. Great story so far.

It's one of those books that have been well crafted. I am so glad that there is an ongoing tale. Thanks for a great and ongoing story. Captivating.
