I have read the Diary of Anne Frank several times in my youth. Anne Frank, A Photographic Story Of Her Life, offers background information and pictures about Anne’s early childhood years before WWII and what happened after she was removed from her hiding place, arrested and sent to the concentration camps. The book seems to be geared towards a younger audience but I found it very informative and moving.

I originally picked this book, to read as a biography for my wide-reading, however as i started reading, i learnt so much about the history of the second world war, and so i chose this novel to complete the category: a book that teaches you about another time in history. I chose to read this, as i couldn't find an available copy of the diary of Anne Frank. I think this was better though, because i learned about Anne Frank's life, as well as about the setting and history.

This book follows the life of Anne Frank, from not only Anne's point of view, but through the eyes of her family, friends and loved ones.

"Anne's death reminds us of the suffering and cruelty we cannot escape. Her life reminds us that we can try." This is such a beautiful quote, because it tells us that although Anne could not beat her circumstances, her willingness to live still stands as an example to us, years later.

The things i learned from this book, are not so much morals, as i am used to, but real history. Facts and real events are what i can take from this book, as well as Anne's family and friend's courage.

Anne is the character who i found most interesting in this book, as she was only 13 when she went into hiding. Her whole life was turned upside down when the Nazi's gained power, and she was a Jew, living in this horrific period. Her story may be one of thousands from this time, but her example is one that will live for years to come.

This was my last read in 2018 and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! I was so happy when I came across this book at a garage sale. I have never read one of the DK Biographies but I love the layout of these books. This book was very informative on everything not just related to Anne Frank and the other members of the Secret Annex, but I also learned facts about World War II and the Holocaust that I never knew before. The timeline at the very end of the book is a great summary of all the major events related to Anne's life.

I loved the details and quotes from Anne herself, the detailed photos and drawings of the Secret Annex, and the time spent on Otto and the aftermath of Anne's legacy. I never really knew all of the details in how Anne's diary came to light such as how it was originally called "The Secret Annex" and that there are three versions of her diary: Anne's original diary, then a revised version that Anne started writing herself when she realized her diary could be important after the war, and the first version of the diary that was published after Otto selected between the two versions. I highly recommend this book to everyone because of all the details you will learn about Anne and the significance of her work as it fits within the events of World War II.

Anne Frank- A Photographic Story of Her Life

Anne Frank- A Photographic Story of Her Life, written by Kem Knapp Sawyer, is a biography of a Jewish girl that grew up during the time of the Nazi invasion in 1939. It was a great biography because she documented all the things she was going through in her diary while she was in hiding from the Nazi’s. She was just a regular girl with the same kinds of hopes and dreams as many girls her age but her life was turned upside down when she had to go into hiding because she was Jewish. I can’t imagine how I would deal with being stuck in a small place and not being able to go outside or see my friends. I felt bad for what Anne Frank had to go through. I would recommend this book because it was interesting and I liked the photos.

I read this book to refresh my memory of events and people in the life of Anne Frank before viewing a documentary on who turned in the family to the Nazis. I had read The Diary of Anne Frank years ago. This provided excellent background information and photos as well as a timeline and insight from Otto Frank and survivors who knew Anne and the others in the attic. This story breaks my heart, but I'm glad it is still being told/read.

My first time reading about Anne Frank. I loved the layout of the book. The captions explain things clearer. The DK biographies are very well organized books and easy to read. The timelines are my favorite. I just can't imagine what people went through back then.

It had been a while since I had touched up on events that occurred during World War II. This Biography covers the journey of 8 people hiding in a secret annex in Amsterdam during the Nazi take over. It covers the life of the Frank family from the beginning of the Franks getting married through the publication of Anne Frank's Diary in 1952. We find out about the courages people who decided to help the Jews. We learn about the two years the 8 people spent hidden in the annex and what that was like. We learn important events and dates that occurred during World War II like D Day and the number of people murdered in the concentration camps. It was sad to read about how these poor prisoned Jews were treated in these camps. They were starved, contracted diseases, and were also sent to the gas chamber it all lead to death. The story of Anne Frank was published do to Miep, a lady who help them hide. She saved Anne's diary once they were arrested in the secret Annex and taken to the concentration camps. Anne's father was the only survivor of the 8 people who hid in the annex. When he returned after the war was over to Amsterdam, he met Miep and the diary was handed to him.

BEWARE OF SPOILERS. One man's jacket-flap summary is another man's spoiler.

Very useful. I enjoyed seeing the city map, floor plan of the annex photos of the actual original plaid diary, etc.

I highly valued the story of how Otto came to publish his daughter's diary -- I hadn't heard that he had held back, and was partially moved forward when a university scholar wrote movingly about Anne after having read one of the many pre-published copies that was circulating.

I was moved to pity by the account of Otto learning so much more about his daughter through his posthumous reading of her diaries. (I had already known quite a bit about Miep, who kept the diaries in safe keeping, but never read them, turning them over to Otto only when she knew for sure that Anne would never be returning to collect her personal effects.)

Interesting to me that the author did not get into the ongoing conflict between Anne's parents, which must have contributed to Anne's ambivalence toward her mother. The author did have an opening, because he/she got into Otto's remarriage.

On June 12 1929 Anne Marie Frank was born in Frankfurt. She was a regular Jewish school girl until the war started and everything changed Anne and her family had to go into hiding in a secret room in the Annex building for 2 years. Until one day police had suspected the place and found the hiding place and arrested Anne, her family, and the other Jews living there too, and they took all of them to camps. Anne was moved from camp to camp and was seperated from both her parents and only had her sister left. Until in early March when her sister Margot died from typhus which Anne had also developed. Will Anne live through the illness or will she die from the horrible illness.

I thought this book was incredible but it was also very sad.

I would recommend this book it was phenomenal. I loved it even though it was heart breaking.

I'm not usually a fan of children's biographies. They tend to perpetuate stereotypes and myth, and they just don't tell the full story. The one exception to this rule is the DK series. They are well-researched and interesting with pictures to keep young readers captivated. DK's biographies at least attempt to explain historical complexities and biases. They give a more nuanced story, and that's very clear in their biography of Anne Frank. This is the perfect introduction to Anne Frank's life, and it also covers necessary ground when it comes to the background of World War II. I recommend this book be given to young readers as reference before they read The Diary of a Young Girl.

I read this book for a biography paper and it really taught me good facts about Anne Frank that I didn't know about. It was a very well written book and I thought it was great! I liked the book because it was easy to understand and it made me visualize Anne writing in her small bedroom and her emotions. I liked how it started and how it ended. Anne was a regular girl just like us and it made me realize how hard it would have been to be in her position. She is a sometimes moody but she has her way with writing. I really enjoyed this book and I hope you enjoy it too! Read this book if you would like to learn about Anne Frank!

I loved this book. It taught a great lesson about human cruetly and I just loved how Anne kept on trying. She never gave up, only sometimes did she get frustrated with herself, and she kept on going, pushing past hard times. What really fasinated me was that she had hid so long in the Secret Annex and the war was almost over, but unfourtunatley they found them. Anne also lived so long in Concentration Camp, and they were just about to let them go free when she and Margot (her sister) died. I highly recommend this book. It is very sad, but a wonderful story.

This biography of Anne Frank is a great selection for those who are first learning about her life and the events taking place during her time. Each chapter gives a back story on Anne's life, her country's dilemma, and world events happening around her. By the end, the reader has a good understanding of not only Anne'e life, but also the bigger historical events that she was a part of. This book would be a great resource for a student studying World War II, the Nazi Takeover, or even just Anne Frank's life. The book is rich in historical information!

I have always been fascinated by Nazis and concentration camps and have seen just about all of the movies that have to do with the two subjects. This book looked more at Anne Franks like before the Nazi invasion than anything that I've ever gotten my hands on before and it gives the reader a better sense of how dramatic the lifestyle change was when the Franks went not only from normal life to hiding, but also how differently they were treated in each of the different concentration camps they went to .

I have always loved reading books wrote on Anne Frank and her life. What I loved about this book in particular is how it walked you through the life of Anne Frank date to date. The pictures of Anne Frank, her family, and where she was hiding made the events that happened in her life all the more real. This book makes present and past times connect by getting your emotions involved in such a young girls life. This book is easy to follow because of the chapters it is split up into, this is an easy read and Kem Knapp sawyer did a great job.

I really liked the format of this book. The additional side marks and pictures helped me understand more about how Annie's life in the secret annex and concentration camp was. I don't see why this world is so racist. Anne's dad created an organisation to teach people that we must respect and accept everyone no matter what religion the have, which is what Annie wanted. I haven't read her diary yet though.

I first read the book Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl many years ago, and I've read other things about Anne and her family over the years. I still learned interesting details about their lives and deaths that I didn't know before. This book is a great introduction to their history before, during and after World War II for middle-school age readers, and for anyone interested in a short, illustrated biography. Very well researched and written, as well as very moving.

Anne Frank and the Holocaust has always intrigued me ever since I was a little girl. One of my favorite books as a young girl was similar to this. The facts and pictures on each age really bring her story to life. Obviously this book is meant for older children and not younger audiences as it contains a hard story that not many parents would wan their young children to hear. But it is very educational for older students and I enjoyed it as well.
