Scott Wolfe #7

Splinter Self

Rate this book
Volume seven and the epic conclusion of the Scott Wolfe Thriller Series.

Scott Wolfe is a prisoner in his own body. The bullet to the head he received in the attempt to save Kathrin has left him without consciousness, without control of his body, and even without the ability to breathe on his own.

If not for his personality fracture, Wolf, he'd be dead. To Wolf, that's not even in the top ten on his list of problems.

Combine hasn't missed a stride since Scott and company stole their billions, and the secretive fraternity of billionaires seems to be on track to finally take ownership of the United States government.

Add to that list of problems a former CIA section chief, John Temple, trying to undermine Wolf's authority with their small band of SEALs, a government determined to capture Scott (now labeled a traitor), and a bullet in his head that moves every time he headbutts someone.

And worse for the mission, a new threat being cooked up in the labs of the Defense Intelligence Agency. It only gets harder from there.

Strap in...it's going to be a bumpy ride.

S.L. Shelton

S.L. Shelton, a bestselling thriller author, is a passionate, fact spouting former techie and soldier who is constantly at odds with his need to kick the legs out from under those who abuse their power (Political, Economic or Super). He lives on a tiny little farm on the banks of a tiny little river in the northwestern part of Virginia, where his semi-secret identity is somewhat protected on three sides. Despite deep misgivings about writing on subjects close to his own life, he has penned a series of books about a similarly broken, similarly gifted young man who similarly doesn't have a clue when to stop and re-evaluate life decisions.

Before building his career in the computer field for nearly two decades as a developer, designer, trainer, and a CEO, he had the honor of serving in the US Armed Forces in several roles, most involving explosives of some sort. After selling his successful micro empire in 2011, Shelton retired to his study which he hasn't left since. On most days he writes, but when left alone and to his own devices, breaks his troll like existence long enough to sneak into the sunlight and fire a weapon or two, snap a few pictures or pick some vegetables from his wife's prized organic garden beds.

Though his climbing days are behind him due to injuries (several to the head), he was an avid rock climber, having climbed for decades since his teen years. His three children are grown and living very adventurous lives of their own.

Waking Wolfe is the first novel in the Scott Wolfe Series, followed by Unexpected Gaines, Danger Close, Wolfe Trap, Harbinger, Predator's Game and coming in 2017 Splinter Self. He has also published a Crime Novel and a Back Story Novella to the Scott Wolfe Series.

Shelton ends his Scott Wolfe saga with a true masterpiece!

If you’ve read the previous books in this series (which you absolutely should!) you know that SL Shelton writes nail-biting tails of intrigue, mortal danger and heart-pounding action. Nevertheless you might not expect that Shelton would not only top himself again but also deliver his Magnum Opus so to speak!

SPLINTER SELF is the perfect final act for this series, effortlessly balancing twists and action with great character beats and real emotions that might get one or two tears out of you.

Without spoiling anything one can easily draw parallels with the conclusion of the Harry Potter books where the reader has a feeling that right about every character could suffer an untimely demise at any time! And at the end quite a few characters die here as well… So don’t read on any longer! Get the book and find out how it all ends. You want regret it!

As good as I anticipated. I understand the delay and I am sorry for your loss. I have now read the series and will recommend it to all my friends. I see you left the ending open and I would hope there will be more to come.

If you have not read the previous books in the series, stop reading this and read them first. Splinter Self is probably the best book in the series. It is a wild roller coaster ride that brings the series to a satisfying conclusion. I had difficulty putting this book down even when I went to work. It is that good.

The characters and story arc are well developed. The action is non stop except for the occasional tender moment and some self contemplation on the part of Scott. That is just enough time for you to catch your breath before the action starts again.

I do not know if this book is action, Science fiction, or a spy thriller. Shelton combines elements of all of them to create a story that is uniquely his. You will not regret reading this book. If you follow the series, the conclusion will both satisfy and surprise you at the same time.

However, there is one caution, if you have not read the series, start at the beginning.

Conclusion?

Leaving the 2 main protagonists in a state of limbo you gives me hope that some time in the future this saga may continue. If not, all good as maybe Scott and Kathrin will find each other in the near future, recovered, and spend the rest of their lives on some South Pacific island.

The conclusion to the Wolfe series was worth the wait. Action packed with twists and turns, this was hard to put down. I sure hope this isn’t really the end to the series, as I’d love to read more! Note: I received an ARC from the author and was asked to leave a review after reading.

I’ve been a long-time fan of Shelton’s Scott Wolfe series. I felt some trepidation reading this seventh book―not because I was afraid it wouldn’t be as amazing as the others―but because I knew it would be the last. It’s so hard to say goodbye to a story, to a cast of characters who have so thoroughly captivated me over the last several years. I knew Splinter Self was going to be remarkable. As predicted, Shelton did not disappoint.

You’ll be getting no spoilers from this reader. To give any detail of the story away would do a huge injustice to this epic final chapter. I will tell you that it’s a thrill ride from beginning to end, and that Shelton has packed a lot of surprises along the way. The action scenes―and there are several―are tightly choreographed and extremely well written, and the complexity of the relationships between the characters is even more so in this book.

Throughout the entire series, Shelton has managed to make me laugh, and he’s made me cry. He’s made me angry, he’s surprised me, and he’s stressed me out. He’s made me love so many of his characters―and he’s made me hate quite a few of them as well. He’s a master manipulator, which means he’s an excellent story teller, and the tale he’s managed to create with his Scott Wolfe series has made a memorable impression on me. While I’m sad that this is the last book of the series, I can’t help but marvel at the way this talented author brought this story to a close. Splinter Self is an outstanding final piece to the creative and complex puzzle that is the Scott Wolfe series.
