Continue Online The Complete Series

Rate this book
All five novels of the Continue Online series are included in this ebook boxed set.

Follow Grant Legate’s trials and tribulations through: Memories, Made, Realities, Crash, Together.

Memories:

A man broken by despair and depression, Grant Legate finds himself in a once-in-a-lifetime situation after receiving an Ultimate Edition copy of Continue Online. All he wishes for is a distraction from the thoughts plaguing his waking hours. He dives in headfirst, unknowing of the AIs intentions. They offer him the chance to play as one of their own, a NPC deserving of a proper send off. What he discovers during the journey shakes Grant to his very core.

Made

The start of a new adventure

No longer playing as a Local from the world of Continue Online, Grant Legate’s adventure can begin. The Voices offer him a unique title along with a test and reward. To start—he'll have to survive underground horrors, old girlfriends, become a warrior. To win—he must become an imp familiar and kill another player, one with a dozen tricks up his sleeve.

Realities:

Exploring a new world

Worried for his sanity after poor in-game choices, Grant Legate’s sister, Liz, blocks access to Continue Online. With no way around the restriction, he ventures into a new world—a VRMMO game based in space—called Advance Online. There he must help his companion AI, Hal Pal, overcome an identity crisis, race to the center of the universe to bring back his true love, and figure out where he stands on the scariest implication of all; AIs are bringing the dead to life.

Crash:

Actions have consequences

Grant’s prior adventures tie together and he finds himself back in Continue Online, as Hermes—in jail. He's forced to experience life as a digital convict and earn redemption points to gain his freedom. Each in-game death pushes his goal of helping his friends out of reach. The AIs Grant’s grown to love, trust—and sometimes fear—are facing extinction, he holds the key to their survival.

Together:

It is now the last stand

The game is no longer about adventures in a new world or exploring fantasy lands. Grant’s digital wife faces deletion, along with everyone else he cares for. He, and those who know this is more than a game event, search for clues to salvation left behind by the game's creators. Even if he finds them all, the Voices have one last task for their messenger. A sacrifice.

Close to perfect

This story kept me wanting to come back to it when I have a full-time job, college, and an attention demanding 5 year old.
It blends fantasy with science fiction very well, indeed. Grant is such a believable character and so well written that you can't help but love him through his faults. He is the type of hero we don't often get to read about and I enjoyed every moment of his journey.
I was gifted this digital compilation, yet I would buy it in a physical copy.

Read all of Book 1 and a few chapters into Book 2. Had to walk away at that point, just isn't for me. Conceptually, it was good. But MC (Grant) is in a dark place emotionally, and the story kind of dwells on that to a certain degree. It's very hard for me to spend a lot of time in that head-space due to things I struggle with in reality. Would love to know how the whole series works out, but I just can't make the journey to get there.

Several Extremely Enjoyable and Complex Wild Rides

I’d been debating reading the Continue Online series for a while. It really piqued my interest. There are so many great books out there it’s hard to narrow down where to start and predict what kind of experience that you will end up with. I finally found this compilation of the Continue Online series and thought it’d be nice to have all the books in a series in one place not needing to search through and download all of them one by one after I finish each. Even after getting this Compilation it took me a while to get into reading it.

Anyways off point. I finally did and once I started I struggled to put it down without the stories playing in the background of my thoughts. I read it on the way to work, from work, (no reading and driving, it was a brisk 10 min walk though), and during most of my breaks. I’ve read many books and often pictured myself in whatever world I’m reading about. But the Continue Online series held slightly more to reality to me than a lot of the others. The depth of character for many of the familiar faces throughout the series is what surprised me a bit. I loved every minute of it, even the minor yelling at the page when some things were said or done. But that is the joy of books, love, laugh, scream, and cry. If a book can do even one of those things it’s good and did it’s job. But what’s to say of a book that does them all? Well that’s for everyone to decide on their own. If you end up reading this particular work of fiction you might just find out.

More than litRPG

Frankly, I wouldn't really consider this litRPG. Sure it takes place in the context of an immersive MMO, but most of the decisions that drive the main character have nothing to do with the game. To me this is more of a classic cyberpunk series. It deals with the nature of reality and asks the question "can something be truly alive if it only exists inside a computer?". (This has been touched on in some litRPG series, but not with the depth of this work.) I highly recommend this book to any fan of classic sci-fi/cyberpunk as well as any litRPG fans.

EPIC

I’ll be honest… This genre has really taken me by surprise and this series in particular. This five books series is absolutely epic. It was one of those stories that I was sad it was over but very satisfied with the ending and would recommend it to any fantasy or lit RPG reader

Haunting and dynamic

Grant’s story is one of loss and self discovery. It pushes the reader to empathize with a broken man offered situations in which he sacrifices parts of himself (his fear, his anger, his daily routines) in order to grow. I found it particularly relatable the extent to which he would chase and protect the ones he loves. 11/10 will read again.

Fun

A psychologically unhealthy MC steers his obsession to the digital world, confronts his issues, fails to conquer them and instead justifies his actions by trying (and succeeding) at regaining past stimuli. He struggled and overcame. He was a thrill to read. But the guy needs to learn how to continue...(pun intended)

Well done, Stephan Morse! An interesting story, very well written. I liked that he tied up all the loose ends in book 5. My only complaint is that Mr Morse didn't finish out the topic of AI equality. Did humans eventually consider AI's to be their equals? We don't know.

Started out great...

Unfortunately I found the plot to water down instead of thicken as it progressed. This is just my take and images that others would probably enjoy it a lot more.

Great books

Not like most LitRPGs that I’ve read with a good, long, story. I look forward to more works by the author.

A series worth finishing

I truly enjoyed this series and think that the author's next books will be better still! All I need now is a little time, patience, and care. :)
