Missing Person: The Beginning

Rate this book
The small town of Deville, Washington holds a population of less than ten thousand people. In addition to its annual fall cider festival, it also boasts one of the lowest crime rates in the state. It’s an idyllic little town, where people escape the big city to enjoy nature. For Chase Grant, it was a fresh start, a new beginning. But when the family down the street disappears, Grant is forced to confront a past that he had thought he’d left behind.

4,25 stars - English ebook - I have dyslexia - the monsters are back.... -
Grant is a former detective, who after a case gone wrong and the loss of his wife, now does colt cases as a PI. Down the road a family goes missing, and when he finds the 5 year old daughter hiding in his closet Grant roles back on a road he does not want to end up on, or does he?
This book had a clue I did not expected. But that cliffhanger!
A quick read what is the intro to the next book in this series. I Want to know what's going to happen next so I surely go and buy the second book on amazon. 😀
- Bandit liked him too, because he always fed him treats. Anna just hoped that mr. Grant was home- 🌹🌷🌹

Chase Grant was once a detective ..a very good one. One mistake cost the lives of several women, almost killing his partner at the time, and he lost his job. He's working now as a Private Investigator, working cold cases for the local law enforcement.

The family down the street disappear one night and Chase finds their young daughter in his house, hiding in the closet.

Where are the parents? Who took them? And why are there no persons with their names anywhere to be found?

What little there was ... was good. Lots of suspense. Plenty of character development. Lovable little girl and her dog.

This is a short story, a preview of sorts. With only 100 pages and 13 chapters, it's a fast read. There are two books that follow, but looking at some reviews for those, they are close to being chapter books ... short stories with approximately 13 chapters, all leading to major cliff hangers. Everything seems to stop in the middle of the story.

This is free on Amazon, something to entice people to read the other books. I probably won't bother.

I listened to these 3 out of order and I really hoped that this one would give me some background, not just to the story covered by the arc but the dismissal and his fall from grace.

perhaps there are more I just need to keep searching as I found these three audiobooks very well written and engrossing. there was maybe a little too much violence.

the narration suited it to a tee.

This book is an OK choice for a relaxing read if you don't want to overtax your brain. Having said that: I found the ending disappointing and unfinished.

This mystery does keep you guessing and wanting to know more, all the way through.

Chase Grant liked living in the small quiet town. Especially because it had such a low crime rate. All he wanted was a peaceful place to live with no drama. That ended when the family down the street went missing. As a former detective, he can't just sit by without investigating it. When he finds young Anna and her dog hiding in his closet, he immediately calls the police who tell him she will be taken to DCF. He kept the dog. But when he wanted to take the dog to visit Anna, he was told she wasn't in the system. Where was she? You'll have to read this book to find out.

Even though I was frustrated with unanswered questions about Chase, it was a good mystery that held my attention. I liked it right up until the end. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers so that left a negative feeling for me. But it sure makes you want to read the next book!

Another book to make me sad...

The pace is fine, the story ok, the characters could really use some work (they stay quite flat - only less than a handful of defining characteristics, and those repeated over and over).

But the biggest, biggest failure of it all is gender and the not-stereotyping thereof.
Yes, female characters go around shooting people and giving orders - but in the end, it is only the three main female characters who are "impaired" (pregnant...) and need rescuing or cry for help or puke their guts out on adrenaline (and passing the Bechdel-Test, however flawed it may be? Not even close.)
And the main male characters don't fare any better - Grant is basically helpless in front of his drive to protect his tall, blond (...) or petite, pregnant (...) former and current partners, the same goes for Charles, and a lot of the other males and their interactions with the females are... not even there or catcalling. Not to mention the mask of stoicism on Grant - yes, he sweats and shakes from his nightmares, but somehow, his feelings stay flat, because they translate into him still being successful and right at everything he does. The author tells us that this was not so in his past, but we can't see it now, and so Grant stays inwardly troubled, but perfect in his actions and as such a non-believable character.

What has been seen cannot be unseen, sadly - I really wish I could enjoy this book, even if only for light reading. But I can't.

Chase Grant is a retired police detective. Retired, not through age, but because of an ultimately successful operation that caused many deaths (little information is given). He's living in a quiet town and barely keeping his financial head above water by investigating closed cases for his former employers.
His neighbours are kidnapped in a brutal attack, their young daughter hides in Chase's home. He's involved ...
The story is solid, the pacing is good until right before the end when it suddenly zooms along to reach an unsatisfactory pause.
I have a problem with serial books - they tend to end on a cliffhanger, and this is no exception.
I assume that the rationale is that if the first book sells well the author will continue on with the story. This shortchanges the reader who is, not unrealistically, expecting an outcome and a solution.
At the same time an author needs to maximise revenue streams in a changing time for books and book distribution.
'Missing Person: The Beginning' is, I believe, flawed by the lack of an ending.

a 5 yr old girl, her parents and dog bandit are in the house when strangers break in and grab them. the dog bit one of them giving the 5 yr old a chance to run into the woods as her mother yelled for her to do. they came looking for her but frozen in fear they didnt see her. she decided to go to the neighbors house after they left

he was a former cop, now pi, gone for the night. when he came home he found the girl and dog in his closet and called the police to come get her. he kept the dog. they put the girl into the 'system' and when he went looking for her the next day no one had any record of her. running the parents name thru the system came up with nothing either.

fbi showed up at his house, the family was in witness protection, thats why the girl wasnt put in foster care after the parents were taken. a bad fbi agent had told them where to find the family. they kidnapped the girl from the fbi

the book ends here abruptly

Although this was a story story (about 100 pages), it really held your interest to make you want to read the next one.

Chase Grant, was a detective and a very good detective. One they still talk about solving the most hard to cases regarding missing persons. But, he is in a bad place, he has been suspended from the force, no longer a dectective. No family.

But when the family living down the street from him has disappeared and he finds the daughter hiding in his closet, he gets involved in finding out what happened. Really a great story and you would want to have the next one close to continue reading about what happened to Anna and her family.

I couldn't stop reading this was steady paced with developed characters.Chase Grant was the most successful detective solving missing person cases with his partner Mock's.That had been 4 years ago when he was dismissed from the job.Grant now is a private investigator doing cold cases that Mocks gives him. Then his neighbors come up missing and he can't stop thinking about it even when the FBI told him to stay out of it.This is a fast-paced action-packed story and I can't wait to read book 2 highly recommend reading this if you like mystery thrillers

This was an extremely intense read about two missing girls & two mentally damaged detectives. The detectives have to learn to work together, racing the clock to find the missing tweens. There are a lot of horrible examples of abuse revealed. To the author's credit and this reader's appreciation, there was no unnecessary grapic violence. This is a must read for those searching for a good mystery/thriller book that I considered "clean".

Why does this have two different titles? Our Stolen Pieces on one cover from Amazon & Missing Persons on the other???

The writing was great and the story intriguing, but I have not had a story stop right in the middle of a story. I mean a place that does not have a nice stopping place. This one stops without a single part of the story answered. I was quite frustrated.

Great Story

Grant is a former detective, down on his luck after his wife's death. When his neighbors vanish in the middle of the night and he finds their young daughter in his closet, he's drawn back into investigating. Grant follows an exciting trail in the search for his neighbors.

This is an enjoyable novel that will keep you turning the pages.

Do not bother

Half a book. Bullshit! Do not bother with it. Has some potential, but not enough to pay to see how it ends. I am boycotting this author forever! The author should deal drugs. That way, the "free taste" actually gives the customer something and the customer is more likely to come back for more. Not worth time for what you get.

In Missing Person: The Beginning a family is kidnapped from a quiet neighborhood in quiet Deville, Washington. Chase Grant, ex-detective is drawn into the case when he finds the five-year old daughter of the family and the family dog in his closet. The story is fast paced, full of action and ends with a cliffhanger.

The beginning

Yep and that's it. About the time you hit the climax of the book it ends. No resolution, no happy ending, just left wondering.. I felt like I was just at the middle of the book and it ended.. sad. Don't like this style of writing. No closure, no good ending, no good triumphs over bad

Not a favorite book for me.I don't like books that leave you hanging until the next to know how the story ends. It ended too abruptly!. Not really interested enough to read the next book.

Great writing that kept me riveted. When I started I didn't realize this was an intro and additional chapters or books would need to be purchased. But it was excellent writing that unfortunately I will not be able to read the conclusion.

The action moved right along in this book, however I felt like I walked in on an existing conversation, because I had no clue as to the main character's backstory. Also the ending there was no closure. Did they give chase? What happened to the Agent? …. Too many loose ends.

Very entertaining storyline that seems to be something that could actually happen in any neighborhood. But the end was so abrupt that it really left me feeling lost, looking for more.

Action and mystery

I could not put this book down! The only reason I did not give it five stars is because I felt the ending was abrupt. Maybe that was by design, to leave the reader wanting more.
