Movies and books have made being a monster sound cool.
Lindsay can’t wear silver jewelry or get drunk with her friends, but hey, she sprouts fur and fangs during the full moon. Totally rad, right? Not. Forget about exploring the beast within, Lindsay just wants to graduate from nursing school. When a stroll in the park ends with her and her little brother being surrounded by masked goons who want to sell them overseas, Lindsay has no choice but to change.
Despite her best efforts, these kidnappers know how to handle a werewolf inexperienced in hand-to-paw combat. She regains consciousness hours after the scuffle to find her brother gone. In a panic, she turns to the only werewolf she Wayne, Mr. Werewolf Pride, the guy Lindsay rejected none-too-kindly several years ago. Being the forgiving kind of guy he is, Wayne agrees to help. . .so long as Lindsay joins his pack. Living among others of her kind is the last thing Lindsay wants, but for her brother’s sake, she bites her tongue and agrees.
Lindsay learns a few things while traveling through Europe in search of her brother. Being a werewolf can be pretty badass when you know how to use your abilities. Being a freak isn’t so bad when you’re surrounded by other freaks. And She might have misjudged Wayne.
When she and Wayne stumble onto the mastermind behind the kidnapping, this werewolf mafia king decides they know too much. Lindsay and Wayne should get out of dodge but, they know that unless this man is stopped, innocent people will die.
Although I would have loved to have seen this stretched into a series simply because I love Lindsey so much, it was an absolutely thrilling read with just the right mix of romantic tension. Lindsey is someone I can totally identify with - strong-willed, just wanting to make it through life like a normal person and protect her family. Fate has a different plan in store, and with lives at stake Lindsey rises to the occasion with a little help from two hot guys who both want to capture her heart. It's a compelling read and perfect for anyone who doesn't mind a little adrenaline and dirt in their romance.
Please be aware this might not be totally suitable for some people, it does get a little graphic at times, so don't go in thinking this is just going to be romance with a little excitement on the side.
I really like how the story was told, you went on a journey of discovery with the main character. She is a werewolf but knew very little of her kind. It was the way she wanted it. It felt like there were 2 families, the werewolf family and then the family of strangers who found themselves kidnapped. Even though they didn’t really know each other, they fought and helped each other to survive.
The Author did a really great job of building the tension and building the story from the very first page. Straight from the first page, you are thrown into the deep end with the characters. In a way, it showed you deep down who they were, the type of person they were. It was like a crash course into each character. With being so many new characters at the start of the story it was a great way to get to know them.

“In the Dark” is not just another werewolf story. It has a little something for everyone: romance, intrigue, unrequited love, kidnapping and adventure. The characters are bigger than life with Wayne knowing Lindsay is to be his mate, but she fights it tooth and nail, literally, because she thinks she is in love with a human. Lindsay is loyal to her younger brother to a fault, and later to her fellow kidnapping victims. There are plot twists everywhere in this unique and spine tingling story which will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Be prepared to have your heart broken during the werewolves exploits. Keep a box of tissues close. “In the Dark” is a haunting story that will linger in your mind well after the tale is done.
The only reason i did not give it five stars is due to the beginning. It was slightly confusing and took me a moment to catch up my thoughts with the book. I also HATED that his brother died. I would have liked to see a little more of a happy ending for some of the periphery characters. However, i was glad she learned about herself and got a happy ending. I also enjoyed the flash forward epilogue! Overall i really liked the book and would love to read more!

I liked this book a lot. I could tell that the author is influenced by Kelley Armstrong which is awesome because I love Kelley Armstrong. I did find that I didn't quite feel enough chemistry with Lindsay and Wayne or even Lindsay and Avery. I feel like the author kind of skipped the "good" parts of the budding romance with Wayne. I think the story could have been longer to allow the chemistry to grow. however I did really like the book and i liked how the characters seamlessly moved from being kidnapped to Europe to different areas in Europe. Some novels are kind of choppy when changing scenery/places. I was hoping there would be further books about Lindsay but it seems like everything fell into place in that book. Maybe it's time for a Shannon book?
Very enjoyable book! Thrilling and suspenseful with a little romantic tension thrown in, made for a perfect combination! I look forward to reading more by this author!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through “ Viracious Readers Only “ in return for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book and found I had a hard time putting it down. It was well written and I found myself caring about the characters. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
I received this book from Voracious Readers for an honest review. In genre crowded with this type of book this was a good read. It is a nice fun read for new readers to this genre and a fun easy reader for experienced readers of this genre. It was a good story - girl gets bit by a werewolf struggles through her first change is found and mentored by an older boy who teaches her how to hunt and manage her symptoms. However, boy is dealing with his own issues - father gone and mother disappeared assumed to be dead. And he has a young brother to care for. However at the start of the book none of this is known. It starts with a bang where five young people are kidnapped and held for unknown reasons - one of which is said girl and her little brother. Lindsey the werewolf is released for unknown reasons and she fights fiercely to save the other four as they are sent away. Then Lindsey is brought face to face with the boy who was her teacher and then abandoned her. Lindsey is determined to follow the kidnappers and find her brother and the boy who was her boyfriend, who might be her boyfriend again, and bring them home. Through it all Lindsey finds out how to love herself and her fiercer side as well as love and appreciate the boy who taught her but never actually abandoned her. It was well written and sweet. There was one really sad part but you kind of knew something like that was going to happen. Otherwise it's good fun reading.

Kidnapped, in the dark, in pain…Lindsay Whittaker assesses her situation. She is in a dark space with her brother, an ex-boyfriend and a couple of other people. Not knowing why they are there while feeling the pull of the moon that will require a shift in shape she is feeling rather tense. For some reason she is not taken with the rest of the people kidnapped, requests the aid of Wayne, a man important to her ten years before, and the two, with two people from his werewolf pack, head off to track down Lindsay’s brother and the rest of those that were kidnapped. Their action-packed quest is finally fulfilled but not without pain, suffering and loss experienced by not only those sold into slavery but also those searching for them.
Lindsay has much to ponder as she considers her future. Is Avery (her ex) the man of her future or is Wayne a better match? How will she deal with the werewolf that she has tried to deny being? Wayne has known what he wanted for ten years and is out to win Lindsay to his side while Avery, too, would like to have Lindsay back again.
This book is one that I believe will appeal to YA and perhaps NA readers. It is a paranormal romance filled with action, suspense and secrets. It is at times dark and not all of the characters have a happy ending. It is thought provoking while speaking of courage and strength to be found in adversity. It is a story of werewolves – good and bad. Should the author choose to do so this story would make an excellent first book in a series.
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
In the Dark by Becca Fox In this novel, Lindsay, a young adult werewolf, is kidnapped, along with her brother, her ex-boyfriend, and a few high-profile children. Though Lindsay eventually manages to escape, the rest are taken and flown across the world to be sold as slaves, and she must work with an old acquaintance in order to rescue them all. It is a story about coming to terms with who she is, with some romance, adventure, and action thrown into the mix. The overall plot of the book was interesting, and the premise, though common, is entertaining enough. Unfortunately, the book isn’t very detailed, and so often reads like a synopsis of itself. The characters are well developed, but unfortunately, they are developed into cliché, predictable archetypes of themselves. For example, Lindsay, a young werewolf, struggling with the beast inside, torn between loving two men who both aren’t capable of expressing their affections, and uncontrolled anger over saving her brother - well developed, but kind of boring. I feel like this book is a good first draft of itself. I liked the story well enough to finish it quickly, but I just wanted MORE from it. I would have loved some more unique character development, more detail, and explanations throughout, and a little less predictability in the plot. Maybe I’m just getting pickier, but this book just doesn’t stand up well compared to other novels in the genre. Overall 3/5
This book started like a sequel. I was very confused during the first couple chapters because it felt like a second book not a stand alone book. Once the story got going it was well-written and I enjoyed the adventure. Some parts seemed a little far fetched but its a paranormal book so that happens. Then I started getting to the ending, the ending felt VERY rushed. It seemed like this journey had been created and then Fox didn't know how to end it so she just quickly ended it and out in an epilogue. While I liked the middle and the story ended happily-ever-after, this book should have been a series or should have had a longer, more thought out ending.
I received a free copy of this book from the author via Voracious Readers Only. I enjoyed this book overall, but it took a bit to get into it. The beginning felt like jumping into the middle of the book, enough that I double checked I hadn’t missed something. And then the main character’s indecisiveness regarding the love interests was frustrating too - she was very wishy-washy. But the story as a whole was written well and kept my interest through to the end.
