It's Christmas in Banshee Creek and Kat Ramos and her witch friends face their greatest challenge yet — baking. It's the First Banshee Creek Holiday Cookie Contest and the girls all want to win. But cooking can be tricky in the Most Haunted Town in America, particularly when a creepy urban legend is making the rounds... and there is a formidable new witch in town. Will Kat win the coveted first prize, or will the new arrivals make her life hell... literally.
The Christmas cookie contest in Banshee Creek was the first of its kind, and Kat Ramos and her witchy friends all want to win. The prize is well worth the stress and effort of practice and taste testing before the big day. But there’s haunting afoot in the town’s school where the contest is to be held. And when a young man dies, they all know they have more to defeat than each other.
A Very Merry Witchmas is the 4th in the Main Street Witches series by Ani Gonzalez and is my first by this author. It’s a quirky paranormal Christmas novella, with a little mystery, lots of witchy magic and plenty of cookies – and was chosen to cover part of a challenge! Recommended to fans of the genre.
Kat is a witch who lives in the haunted town of Banshee Creek. She and her friends are entering a Christmas cookie baking contest with a big cash prize and several obnoxious celebrity judges. When a student intern dies, everyone starts to wonder if he was murdered or if supernatural forces were involved. Is the high school really haunted by a Carrie-like girl? A cute holiday paranormal.
I was happy to discover there was one more book in the Main Street Witches series allowing me to enjoy more time with Kat and Liam, Luanne and Sean, and Fiona and Gavin along with other regular Banshee Creek quirky folks. I soon discovered that this was not just wrapping up one series, but also the transition book introducing another so there was some hello-ing going on with my good-byes.
A Very Merry Witchmas is the four book in the Main Street Witches series. It is following up on characters from previous books so doesn't make a good place to begin even if it does transparently introduce newcomer, Claire the necromancer who gets her own series beginning with Hex Marks the Spot
But, in this one, we have the usual town love for festivals and parties. Its the Christmas season so the paranormal group have picked the high school where a ghost of a prom girl wants to dance with all the boys as the place to host their televised cookie baking contest for all the local businesses. Things get off on an ominous foot when a person is found murdered and it seems a once harmless ghost may be the culprit.
Kat is busy burning cookies in her practice run throughs, feeling dread that something bad is happening while suspecting the new TV Celebrity witch in town of more than being too intent on her craft. Luanne is seeing a bad omen in the cards and Liam even starts to be affected by the atmosphere.
It was chaotic and fun as usual, but has grown progressively darker as the witches and paranormies all sense something big is going down soon. I had a good time seeing how Kat and Liam are doing after their unique romance and adventure with their cursed house, but it was meeting the colorful and unique Claire who will be getting her own series that had me most intrigued- okay maybe it was also Claire's Chihuahua hellhound, Pookie, too.
All in all, it was a fun Banshee Creek-style Christmas and wrap-up for a series and I don't have to be sad because there is more to come from a world I have come to love. Those who enjoy paranormal cozies should give this series (and the one before it) a try.
This book moved into strictly paranormal cozy mystery. There was no romance and I missed that. I wish she would move the big story along a little more than a couple of pages each book. I don't want to have to read 20 books to get the whole story. Editing still needs some work, characters are interesting. She has made Luanne a little more ditzy in this book which was not an improvement. Overall I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed with this one. It was almost a filler type story.
A very interesting well written book! I do recommend you read it. You have a baking contest with witches, ghost hunters, and spirits. Mix well and you have a mystery, urban myths and lots of action, romance and twists to the plot. To be continued in the next book as not everything is as it seems.
This is a fun, quirky and intriguing holiday paranormal adventure. Banshee Creek is always a fun place to visit with all the wacky paranormal and all but this Christmas Cookie Baking contest is the best. Highly entertaining and relaxing afternoon read.
This book really surprised me. For one thing, I wasn't expecting it to be as intense as it was. There were points were it got really spooky. I enjoyed the characters but definitely needed to read earlier books to get to know the characters and their backgrounds for a better understanding of motivations. Good read. The author gave me a copy of this book (prize). I intended to review it soon than I did.
Once again it’s Xmas in Banshee Creek. The witches face the hardest obstacle, baking. Humourto make your day and some action as well. Loved it and hoping everyone will read it.
Merged review:
A most delightful book staring Kat and her witchy friends. It’s Xmas in Banshee Creek but there’s also a baking contest. Kat really needs to win, but can she compete with the other witch that came to town. Don’t miss out.
I think I am confusing myself as I am not reading these in order, but quite a few characters from prior books and across the 2 series I've been reading are in this one. First there is Kat, but then there is Claire as well.
In this one, there is a baking contest where the contestants can win $50k, but have to be inexperienced bakers in order to compete. Given how much money is involved, and that the other contestants are individuals that she feels she can compete against and win, Kat decides to enter the contest against her sister in law and other friends and regulars in Banshee Creek. The story is not necessarily about the contest, but where it takes place and the rumor of a ghost who died when attending the school. Enter Claire, who I've liked when first meeting her, and you know there is more to the ghost story and resulting death than anyone suspected.
I liked this one in that Kat who just moved to town and is a witch gets unexpectedly partnered with Claire, but is also one of the main characters in general as the story continues her and Liam's story. At times it felt like a lot was going on with the contest, the ghost, the celebrity guests, the death, and secrets that remembering who is who can be a little tricky. And again, that may be because I skipped a few books before reading this one. I still enjoyed it, but spent a bit of time trying to figure out what I missed since this took place between what I had read and what I have not read yet. I would suggest reading these in order to keep it all straight in your head.
A Very Merry Witchmas is the fifth book in the Main Street Witches series by Ani Gonzalez.
I don’t know if I’d call this a whole book, more like a side story leading up to the origins of one Claire Delacourt. Which I’m entirely too excited to get to after I finish this series. I’m happy all of the Banshee Creek doom and gloom is close to the crescendo, and I’ll be in the know in regards to the approaching Armageddon the empowered gathering of specters has been painstakingly preparing for.
This book however is focused around the towns businesses cranking out their own inspiring creations, vaguely Christmas themed in the true manor of Banshee Creek. With some Haunting celebrity judges, manifestations of the forced nature, and surprisingly given the towns relatively less than fatal haunting some death.
I received this book for free in return for an honest review. This story had a fun start with a conversation between witches about a Christmas Cookie Baking Contest run by a paranormal hunter group and hosted by paranormal TV personalities. This story was fast paced and entertaining with all the different characters. There was always something happening in the plot to keep you reading. This was a Christmas setting with very spooky vibes, but that is expected in Banshee Creek. I especially liked the ending. I certainly do recommend this to anyone that enjoys cozy mysteries.
I took a little bit to get into this one, but wow was it worth it! I love the premise that paranormal entities can become real via belief, at least in certain high powered areas. That is an idea that I've entertained myself but had not seen in a novel before. That idea alone gets a five for uniqueness. All our favorite folks are back as well as a brand new character being introduced. I predict we will be seeing a lot more of her, and since she is very interesting, I can't wait!
Ani Gonzalez is an amazing storyteller! The plot is riveting with surprisingly chilling aspects. This is nicely balanced by a bit of included fun, and the (mostly) engaging cast and their relationships encourage the reader to be invested in Banshee Creek shenanigans! The acknowledgment of numerous different belief systems is a very welcome touch, also. The only negative would be the proofing fails that occasionally caused enough confusion to take this reader out of the story.
I probably should have started with book 1. That is what I would recommend to anyone who is looking at this book and hasn’t read the series. I read it as part of my Christmas reading. I enjoyed the book. I was surprised by it. It was more than I expected. However I did wish I had started it at the beginning. I will now have to do that as I did enjoy it. My recommendation is read it but in the order of the series.
Wow! A lot went on in this book and I'm not even sure what to think. I did like it though but I think I need to go back and read Claire's first book. I am definitely going to read more when they come out. It was well written with good characters. The story was fast paced and interesting. It was a good book and probably deserves the whole 5 stars, I just kind of felt like I would have liked more from a previous book and that is not the author's fault.
I wasn't sure how to rate this book. It began slowly, barely keeping my interest until more than halfway through. The characters were all treated as if everyone should already know who they were and their connection to each other. The pace of the story picked up in the last two chapters, but the explanations were still few. I don't think I'll read the rest of the series to get the answers.
A cookie contest has the residents of Banshee Creek making cookies to find which recipe is best for them to enter the contest. The prize for winning is $5,000. The contest is being held in the high school gym. Something spooky is going on, but no one knows what! Ani Gonzalez leads you to many things happening while her story unfolds. Your attention is peeked while you try to figure out what is going on. This is a fun spooky story, so do not miss reading it! Happy reading! 😊
A Christmas Cookie Contest that turns out to be a Carrie Horror Contest instead along with a " A STUDENT GHOST THAT CLAIMS MALE LIVES" that really is true, then helping a BUFF THE VAMPIRE/GHOST HUNTRESS TO GET RID OF IT all in a nights work then finding out you lost the contest and finding out your going to have a baby that's what the coming CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT.
Banshee Creek at Christmas is fun. This read introduces Claire to us - she's the lead in another series by Ani Gonzalez - and she's very cool. Ever since the PRoVE reveals in the other series, I just can't look at the team and what gets said about them ever the same again...of course they have files on everyone. Missed Dora in this read.
It's not quite horror. It's not quite mystery. It's not quite a ghost story. It's easier to say what it is. It's worth reading. It continually springs surprises on the reader, from beginning to quite unexpected ending. Gonzalez does a good job of creating her own genre and carrying through. Recommended for you, if you got as far as reading this review.
I read mostly cozy mysteries and normally don't pay much attention to authors. This, however, is the second book I've read of the Banshee Creek ones and I WILL remember the author! I enjoy the storyline, the characters and the paranormal mysteries. I look forward to reading more.
This is a volume in a paranormal mystery series. The books can be read out of order without too much confusion.. A Christmas mystery in Banshee Creek, where things go bump day and night. The town is the most haunted in the US. As with all the stories in the series, the same cast is dealing with paranormal problems.
I enjoyed this story. I like the main characters. The story has a Christmas Cookie contest and a legend of a teenaged ghost in the school. This is a nice paranormal Christmas story. I recommend this to anyone who likes paranormal mysteries with quirky characters and supernatural danger.
I love visiting Banchee Creek and what better time of year than Christmas. Especially when there are demons on the lose. But don't lose faith because there's a new Hunter in town, who along with our old friends, saves the day.
This gets 4 stars on Amazon and here both, because it feels less like a standalone and more like a bridge - but I got it as an ARC in exchange for an honest review and I gobbled it up! Lovely Christmas mood but I prefer the PNR to the cozy style for this writer.
I love this writer's style! She gets me invested in the characters and I feel like I'm visiting old friends and making some new ones. The ongoing plot line through all of the books keeps me wanting more but doesn't stop me from enjoying what I'm reading now.
Love this series and everything about Banshee Creek and its denizens. If you haven't read any of these books you're missing some great escape reading and if you have then be sure to read this.
As always a very good good it holds your attention till the end. I couldn't put it down till I was done. The story line was great and very explanatory not like some books you have to guess what some of the things meant I love to read her books.
I really like the series Ani has created! She is a great writer and the series is creative with the correct amount of humor. There were a few typos in this book which surprised me since I haven't seen that with other books.
