Oh, what a lovely book! I have never seen my five-year-old fall so hard in love with any chapterbook, and I really loved sharing it with him. We read it all today, and the moment we finished, he BEGGED that I buy the next two books in the series. (Not just the next one - BOTH of them, immediately, ASAP! I told him the 3rd book won't be out until next week, and he was distraught at how long that wait will be. But clearly we'll just have to re-read this a lot of times before then!)

Stevie is a little girl who lives in a flat on the 18th floor of a very tall building in the city, and she does not want to move to the countryside with her mother, even though it will put them closer to her dad. Her fears and grumpiness about the move are expressed perfectly for the target readership, but as a mum myself, I also loved the weary support from her mum, a single parent doing her very best. Just before they get into the moving van, her grandma arrives with a present for the new house - a perfect teacup-shaped dollhouse with a full set of furniture and four little toy rabbits dressed in human clothing, The Twitches: Mama Bo, Daddy Gabriel, Silver, and Fig. (Think: Sylvanian families! for a comparison.) What Stevie, of course, doesn't realize is that the Twitch family is actually real, and when humans aren't looking, they can hop and play around, and they have entirely distinct personalities.

Unfortunately, on the way into the new house, Daddy Gabriel falls out of Stevie's carrier bag...and just like Stevie has been forced into leaving her safe, familiar home, Silver (the Twitch daughter) braves the outside world to build a parachute and venture past the dangers of removal men (movers), spiders, and more to rescue her father.

I loved Silver's ingenuity and how beautifully Hayley Scott conveyed so many character's personalities in such carefully chosen but very sparse language (to fit the needs of a young child's chapterbook). My son was utterly enthralled throughout and intensely excited by the adventure. The emotions underpinning the story felt very real, and the artwork by Pippa Curnick is just gorgeous throughout.

This was a really fantastic discovery (a gift to my son from a relative), and I have the strong feeling that it's going to be one of those books he remembers as an adult, if only as a misty memory of real magic and wonder. That kind of book is such a gift for a child, and I'm so glad to get to share it with him.

Meet the Twitches by Hayley Scott is another series-starter, this time following a city-dwelling girl named Stevie who moves with her mother to the country. While nervous about her new life, she is gifted a Teacup House and a family of Sylvanian Family-esque rabbits, who turn out to be very much alive. Scott writes such lovely prose, complemented by Pippa Curnick's wonderful illustrations.

This is one of those stories that just emanates goodness, the sort of book that encourages children to explore their imagination and think of tiny adventures. This charming book is another opener to a series I've picked up for myself and my niblings. The second book, The Twitches Bake a Cake, publishes at the end of May.

Meet the Twitches a family of toy bunnies... however they can come to life!

I had already seen this book on Twitter several times and I was hoping to read it one day. Last week I was at Library #1 and imagine my delight when I found this cute little book, and even in English. Bless be!

When we meet our MC, Stevie, she doesn't have the family just yet. She in the midst of moving from a small-ish apartment to a big cottage at the countryside. She is not amused by this and is very grumpily doing all the necessary things she needs to do. But then she meets the Twitches when her grandma gives her the teacup house + all the stuff needed for the house. And of course the Twitches themselves. A family of 4 bunnies, a mom, a dad, and two kids, brother and sister. As expected, just as I would be, her mood improves... at least a tiny bit. :P

Then the move starts and with it tons of panic (where is the Twitches dad??) and we finally see what the Twitches family really is! They are actually alive! I did feel sorry for the mom and the son as they both had items stuck to them, though sorry I also had a laugh that the item held by the son was a carrot and he HATES carrots. Poor thing. Forever stuck with a carrot. I really liked the girl bunny and her terrific brain, while the others didn't know what to do she had a big plan.

While Stevie looks for the missing dad, the family also decides to get to it and find dad. I had a laugh at Stevie's reactions when she saw that the family had moved from one part to another. They don't move when she is around, so I can just imagine her feeling of confusion. I would also be scratching my head, though also be kind of curious and excited. There is magic in the air!
The search for dad was great fun, and I had a laugh at how they had to race against time to make it in Stevie's room before she found out.

Apparently the Twitches have been in the family for a while as Stevie's mom also comments on that the bunnies popping up in strange places also happened to her. I am curious to find out more about those adventures, but I guess these books will focus mostly on Stevie's adventures.

I am also happy that at the end of the book Stevie is getting more comfortable at her new place, and I can't wait to see her garden grow. I also loved what she did for the Twitches family, aww!

The book is also delightfully and fun illustrated and I just adored seeing the illustrations pop up.

I can't wait to see what more adventures the Twitches and Stevie will get into. I hope that my library will also get the other books in this series, in English of course. *crosses fingers*

I would recommend this one to everyone looking for an adorable, sweet and magical book.

Meet the Twitches is the first in a lovely series of books, the Teacup House, aimed at younger readers approximately 7 years +. The book contains 8 enchanting and easy to read chapters.

The Twitches are a family of tiny rabbits who live in a tea cup house. In this first book you meet their owner a girl called Stevie and you see the Twitches hi on their first adventure.

As well as 7+ readers, this is a great book for young children ready to listen to longer stories and discover chapter books, as it has beautiful illustrations throughout the book to keep the reader or listener engaged as well as a captivating story. Some of the text is also illustrated as part of the story such as "bump", bumping across the page.
My favourite character in this story is Silver who is the oldest of the Twitches children. She shows such creativity and bravery as she goes on a risky adventure to rescue her Daddy.

Age – 6+

Stevie isn’t happy about moving from the city to the country to be closer to her dad. She is a dreamer and loves watching the clouds from her 18th storey apartment window and thinking about stuff. Will she be able to do that in the country?

Her grandmother gives her a moving gift – a teacup that opens up into a dolls house. Stevie is also given 4 rabbit figures for the house, but she knows this is a plan between her mum and grandmother to try and make her feel better about the move.

When they arrive at their new cottage, Stevie carries the teacup house and rabbits carefully inside and sets them up in her new room. But one of the rabbits is missing! While she’s frantically searching, something magical happens!

The first story in a sweet new series. Think Toy Story inside a teacup house. With colour illustrations throughout this is an ideal early chapter book.

Príjemná malá knižka s nekomplikovaným dejom a roztomilými ilustráciami. Príbeh je dobrodružstvom, v ktorom šikovná králičia slečna pomôže nájsť strateného otecka vďaka svojej vynaliezavosti, odvahe a dôvery v samú seba.

The story is charming - Stevie is unsettled about moving house and is given a teacup shaped dolls house to cheer her up. Inside live the Twitches, a family of tiny grey rabbits who come alive when nobody's looking. Daddy Twitch gets lost in the move and his resourceful daughter Silver has to set out to search for him. The illustrations are lively and beautiful and the layout is quirky and exciting with all the pages looking very different. I'd recommend it for children who enjoy small world play or spending time in the garden. I would have spent weeks playing with imaginary rabbits if I'd read this as a kid!

An adorably magical short tail with gorgeous brightly-coloured illustrations throughout. A story of magic and adventure, mystery and budding friendships with the cutest little bunny figures who have something special about then, little does their newest owner, Stevie, know. A delightful read for younger readers who enjoy the power of pictures to excite their stories and thrive on magic. A definite must read. Can't wait for the second to find out what else is in store for Stevie and The Twitches in her new adventure in a new home in the country. Quaint, quirky and cute.

Lovely book for an early reader starting to be ready for a longer chapter book. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this with Tiny, mostly very straightforward words and a healthy number of tricky words in there to stretch her a bit. The story's fun and silly, and the illustrations are lovely.

Came across this from listening to Hayley Scott being interviewed by Tim Clare on an episode of his Death Of 1000 Cuts podcast.

Dan: What a delightful little book! Not what I thought it would be and I loved it! Beautiful full colour illustrations on every page, and a lovely little story about Stevie moving house and being given a magical gift by her grandma - the Twitches, who come alive secretly. Just so super cute and a perfect early reader.

Quite creative but not my cup of tea. Big fan of the illustrations and the detail as to the teacup house (and the furniture) and the Twitches' interactions with the outside world but otherwise an "ok" kids book.
