The EMP is real. The unraveling of society is beyond perilous. With the city in ruin, injuries to her party and a sharp loss of resources, Cincinnati McNamara looks to Indigo for help in forming a new homestead, a place where she can tend to the wounded and safeguard her family.
Indigo, however, is a bruised soul with an irrevocable need to stop the Ophidian Horde and its ilk from overtaking the city. The only problem: she’s waging war on an enemy too enormous and too ferocious to handle on her own. She needs the McNamara’s help. Their numbers aren’t enough, but times being what they are, they’ll have to make do...
In this next installment of The Last War series, survival has never been more treacherous, and the fact that an EMP counter-strike turned San Francisco into a post-apocalyptic nightmare isn’t an easy pill to swallow. As our ragtag group of survivors adjust to their new surroundings, they soon realize that to live you have to fight, and fighting to win means becoming something you’re not.
❗️❗️Its an experience! Not “Just a read” ❗️❗️ With the hairs standing up on my arms, feeling shaken to my core, I write this review. That should be said so there is no confusion about that this book is beyond exceptional.
Its not just vivid, fast paced and a filled with such a constructive perpetual storyline it hooks you and reels you in. Gorgeously rich and lavishly developed in every detail, to the point of being a omnipotent experience not “just” a read..or “just”a book. It’s far more than that, it’s in my opinion more of a experience than a ordinary read! I know that this writer has exceptional good skills when it comes to writing books, but this one is so stellar it’s beyond words to describe.
I feel shellshocked, and only after finishing the book did I notice I had been so deeply submerged I forgot about everything else, food, sleeping, the phone ..everything!! I would asses this to be a pretty accurate depiction of the humans in a situation like this. It might be by its plausibility, or the sensation that this is what it would come to that makes it sneak in to your mind, under your skin, grippling your heart with the same feelings they experience, and not just “merely” as a second hand experience, just being related, but as if your actually there, ducked down, running for your life, or what ever. I lived this story along with the people in the book. The story centers around a family and a few selected characters who has survived not only the apocalyptic mayhem, and the EMP, but also the horrifying unraveling of the law, order and things we take for granted in a society.
This story takes place in the aftermath where mindset and survival instinct is the literal difference between life and death. All the emotions, hopes, dreams, thoughts and reactions of these individuals hits you like a runaway train. The marvel of the diversity, (just like in real life) all over the scale, ranging from love to hate, careening seamlessly over to fear and hope and everything in between. All of that makes its way straight into your core.
What’s even more stunning; It takes place in surroundings that you can swear you Actually know, even if you never set foot there. If it had been just negative, derogatory events and emotions or just grit and filth it would not have this quality to it. This is definitely not a book you forget. Deep bows, in total awe of the striking skill of this author!
A small warning! I do NOT recommend this to people who prefer reads thats smooth and easy-over, lightweight, or mass-produced serialized copies without depth, I suggest that if you are one of thosr you should stick to nonsens and La-la books. (La-la books is a type of book where everything is claimed to be perfect, and no flaws clouds the pink skies) In plain words: If you prefer pink clouds and fairies thats farting bubbles, this is not a book for you..
For the rest of the readers, i strongly suggest put the phone of, get comfy, (might want snacks), and be prepared to be deeply submerged in a story that you will not forget!
⏱ Sixty second, no spoiler summary Following three story lines in the aftermath of the drone attack and EMP blast, we continue the journey of Indigo, Cincinnati, Rex, and Macy. They have all joined together after Rex was kidnapped and then rescued. They’re trying to decide if they should stay in town or head out to start a new homestead. Rider is part of another community and eventually meets up with them, bringing a surprise for Indigo. And we are introduced to another family, a mom and her two sons who are trying to survive after an attack. Lastly there is the leader of the Ophidian Horde, a nameless man who killed his way up the ranks and is taking charge of the city. I don’t think there’s much in this story that could make it a stand alone, it’s more of a continuing of the prior books.
👍🏻Turn Ons Great descriptive writing and I love that we are following three different stories that are slowly coming together.
👎🏻 Turn Offs Indigo is smart for her age and knows a lot about triage. The author makes it seem like its because her grandfather taught her, but it’s slightly unrealistic.
👵🏻 Safe to talk about with Grandma? While there are no f words and little other cursing, there is some graphic violence. My grandma wouldn’t really go for this book. There is talk of sex, but nothing descriptive.
⭐Rating ⭐ Five stars. Really enjoying this series and the tone the author uses to tell the story.
Title & Author: The Ophidian Horde by Ryan Schow Format: Kindle Read: 6/20/21-6/22/21 Rating: Five stars
I’ve read a bit of apocalyptic fiction and they are mostly, granted some are good, get home stories. This one is not.
Sometimes my reviews reveal a bit of the story line, so if you like surprises, quit reading NOW.
A group of San Franciscans find each other when AI drones destroy US cities and attempt to kill all people. Think Skynet and Terminator. The drones are soulless. The hero survivors are a mix of strangers and small family remnants. Everyone can shoot and is familiar with guns.
One question I constantly have is in an extinction event, why do humans turn psycho and always try to kill the other survivors? We need people. We need each other.
The gangs of San Francisco want dominance and kill without compunction. There are a lot of them.
Thank you, Author. And thank you for the most original story line I’ve come across.
I just read this whole 6 book apocalyptic series. It is a great series and I am now waiting on the final book to see how it all ends. The books give us many different people in many different areas of the country and then brings them all together in an unbelievable, but believable way. There are some problems with syntax and a some words are in the wrong place and some are repeated. But I am not here to talk about editing, because the truth is it does not affect or detract from the story which I can not seem to put down.
Ryan Schow has created another masterpiece! I am completely captivated by The Last War series. After reading three books in this series, The Zero Hour, The Last War and The Ophidian Horde, I just can't get enough. Ryan's magical way of telling the story isn't overkill, it leaves you totally submerged in the story and dying for more.
A very good book although it can be graphic but I would say it’s readable. It’s a good pace and the story certainly started with a bang and has now calmed down to the usual gangs after survivors so they can control everyone. I definitely recommend reading the series.
Good action while developing characters. The end of the world has many things to take into consideration. I have really enjoyed the stories and all of the things that need to be thought through.
Characters a big as Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. These characters may not be wonderful. Outstanding book series. Keep on reading on a wonderful book series to read.
Love this book kept me on the edge of my seat am ready to read the next one !! This book had me in tears and next minute all smiles !! I hope no I know the next one is going to be good as all the others !!
What can I say, excellent series ! Great characters , brilliant plot. Get ready to be taken on a roller coaster ride full of twists and turns . you should definitely read this series .
Excellent story of the lives of people who have had their own lives turned into a living nightmare. The characters are really well developed and the action is brutal.
Not as good as the other books. Very confusing with each chapter a new character but no indication as to which one. Lots more romance. Still amazing though!! Love this series
Love this continuing story and characters. Such a great cast, you feel like you know them all. Action packed with a love story to go along with the action.
