A frustrating, “Curate’s Egg” of a book. The first 4 chapters made me laugh out loud. Something I’ve not done since reading Terry Pratchett’s Small Gods. After that it was just painful: stretching a thin theme about the main protagonist’s low self-esteem way beyond breaking point but leavened by some humorous observations. Then it picked up the pace in the last three or four chapters and ended with the most predictable of endings. Disappointing.
Really struggled to get into this book. It took until chapter 4 to start to find it slightly interesting, and I still wanted to punch the main character for being super annoying.
It was a bit slow to start. The low self esteem of the main character was hard to handled and even harder to read. I think he went on for too long in some parts but I think that was for the reader to understand how the character was too much in his own head and not living his life. The main character was way too analytical, which spoke volumes to me. I started casting the book as I read it and I really hope that someone is making this into a movie. I'm not talking award-winning or anything, but just a good story. It could be a made for TV movie or ABC Family.
Divertida historia de amor y desamor entre un inventor de concursos televisivos y una actriz: ambos con pocas perspectivas la carrera, con poca autoestima y con un amor desenfrenado. Divertida descripción de la vida londinense.
