Andy’s always loved books. The way in which words flow and intertwine into sentences and stories is something magical. I’m sure like Andy, you'll remember that pivotal moment in your life, that one milestone when you picked up your first real book and placed it down again three hours later, mesmerized and enthralled. For Andy, it was his tenth birthday, and the book was Peter Benchley’s “Jaws”. That terrifying image of a great white shark on the cover, rising up from the depths on its way upwards to attack its first victim, had a major impact on a wannabe writer.
Now, years later and with a job involving lots of international travel, presents an author with exciting locations for his stories. After all, if you’re going to write about a place, then you have to experience it first hand. With two novels, and two collaborations under his belt, Andy is keen to complete his trilogy and draw the story of Dougie Allan to an exciting and satisfactory conclusion. The Last Salvation is due for release in 2020.

The second book in the Seventh Day series is a fantastic story full of mystery and intrigue. It starts off a few years after the first book, the world is coming to terms with all the global disasters that wiped out billions of people and whilst those who are left are starting to rebuild a mysterious new religion is gaining followers at an incredible rate…to this reader this group with their good intentions can only possibly spell more doom. The characters that survived book 1 are still here and they were getting on with their life’s until they realised things weren’t over and they get pulled right back into it.
The first book was very heavy on the sci-fi and code breaking, this time out we have moved towards a classic spy story, with no idea on who to trust it is guaranteed to have you guessing and constantly changing your mind about what is going on and which side each person is on. The writing is top notch again with a very good plot and as for the ending…I’m not impressed things have been left like that and now I’ve gotta wait for the next book? So unfair!
As with book 1 the research carried out is impressive, the descriptions of the Vatican City are so good, you can almost picture yourself there. I have enjoyed this book, it is great to be reading about Dougie again and reading out loud what he says in my best Scottish accent 🙂 Here’s hoping that the third book will be out soon.
Malone returns with a second science fiction thriller that takes your breath from the first word. You start reading and without realizing hours have passed and you are still reading. Every chapter ends with a cliffhanger or a surprising twist that makes you want to continue reading to see what will happen to the many interesting characters. Even a person like me, who doesn’t read a lot, loved this book. It’s full of mystery, suspense and thrilling twists.
Shadows Rising is the sequel to Malone’s first novel The Seventh Day, but it can be perfectly read as a stand-alone. I did not know about the first book when I started reading this one and I had no problems with understanding the story. All the characters are re-introduced shortly and the major events of the first book are recapped when necessary. However, I would advise people who like this sort of stories to read the first book as well because it is equally good.
If you like fantasy and science-fiction, this book is a must read!
