I like how this guide has suggestions for meals for 14 different days, which makes it easy for me to mix and match. The key to eating well is planning. Plan what you are going to eat so that you don't end up trying to decide between something healthy and unhealthy.. I know in my case the unhealthy tends to win if given the choice! When I plan out an entire week of meals though, I find myself having a much easier time sticking to it. This guide talks a lot about portion control, calorie counting, supressing cravings, etc. Most of the advice is good, though a lot of it is just saying what other people have been saying in a different way! I still think the advice works! Having a list of exactly what you CAN eat is incredibly useful - makes it so much easier! I highly recommend this (in addition to the Ultimate Weight Solution).
Ultimate weight solution is a great, no-nonsense, down to earth guide. And truly a guide. The first part is motivation, how to deal with negative family/friends, how to stop lying to yourself, and how to dig deep into why you are fat. Real advice with real steps to getting yourself in the right mentality and to create a positive environment. Certainly not for the faint of heart. You must change your life, and Dr. Phil challenges you to challenge yourself.
What sets this book apart is that it has detailed guides to types of food, what your body needs, real recipes, and examples. You can really use this as a "guide", it's not just a bunch of Tony Robbins style motivation to get off your butt. It is step by step instructions on how to institute real change in your lifestyle for the rest of your life. It is not a quick fix, but a tough, "get real" approach.
My only disappointment was that I listened to this on CD and it was not read by Dr. Phil himself.
The wisdom of Dr.Phil, this time on weight loss, which he claims will be permanent if we follow his directions. I was cynical to begin with, there are a myriad of other books already written on the subject, and I have personally read my fair share of them. Kudos to Dr. Phil for recognizing that no solution will last unless emotional eating is addressed and dealt with first. The rest seems easy: Eat healthy, exercise, manage your stress. He uses a no nonsense, common sense approach that's peppered with humour and compassion. There are no strict food plans, and he is willing to admit that different people need different approaches. But will it work? Dr. Phil claims his success rate is 80%, and I think his program probably has a better chance for permanent weight loss than most. But the proof as they say, is in the pudding :)
Too much talk about calories.. and counting calories.. Its veeery specific food guide! its all about how many calories countains every food... The thing is i'm not quiet sure, that's a good thing! because, you get easily overwhelmed by the amount of information... For me at least, "Less is more" like they say..
