Katherine and Sean grew up together on her parents beloved ranch, so it was no surprise when friendship blossomed into love. Katherine thought they had forever, but Sean was looking for a way out. The day of his high school graduation Sean left the girl he loved and the ranch he resented in his rearview mirror. Katherine was left to put the pieces of her shattered heart back together and figure out a new future. After making his mark on the world Sean has come back to the girl he left behind over a decade ago, and is looking for a way to make her his again. When tragedy rocks the very foundation of Katherine’s life, leaving her with a target on her back, Sean will do anything to keep her safe. But rebuilding the trust he once shared with Katherine isn’t easy, and he doesn’t realize he may have waited too long to come home to the only girl he’s ever loved. If he’s not careful, it may be too late to Save Her.
Flora Burgos is a USA Today best-selling romance author from the great state of Texas.
She found the escapism of reading at a very tender age, devouring the bodice rippers of yore, long before she'd even dreamed of a first kiss. Her first book boyfriends were swashbuckling pirates and roguish Highlanders who weren't perfect but made up for their brutish behavior with a good grovel and a happily ever after. Reading has always been an essential part of her life, and she loses herself in a good book at every opportunity.
Today, she's a mid-30's romance author and mom to a teen boy and a couple of confused, lazy pit bulls. She annoys her husband as often as she can, and she survives on poor sleep choices, too much caffeine, and too little water.
Flora loves hearing from her readers, hanging out in her reader group (Burgos Book Babes) on Facebook, and making TikToks (@authorfloraburgos) about her pit bulls and books. Second chance stories are among my favorites, and Sean and Katy's story had all the makings of a good one. Parts of the book were very good, but other parts went wildly astray. Overall, it's a 2.5 star read for me.
***Possible Spoilers Coming Up***
Katy went out with Chad right after Sean left, when she was 16. They went on five dates and it ended badly. Ten years later - Ten. Years. Later. - he thinks they're getting back together. Huh?
Sean comes home from ten years on the rodeo circuit and his best friends are special ops mercenary types? And he used to do ops with them? Is there some sort of A-Team fantasy camp out there that takes civilians in deadly covert missions? What?
I laughed out loud when the bad guy gave his backstory monologue to Katy while he had her tied up in a barn. It's just so cliche. I half expected him, upon being apprehended, to say, "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids."
And what did the bad guy have to gain by slashing tires and burning down the foreman's cottage? I don't understand how those actions got him closer to his goal. Why?
This a good story of second chance love from first time author Flora Burgos. Katherine and Sean grew up next to each other. Together for life is what Katherine thought until one night when Sean told her he couldn't stay in the small town. He broke her heart and left. Years later and after the devastating loss of her parents, Katherine finds herself close to Sean again. He is still the only man she has ever loved. The characters are interesting and I can see how I want to know more about them and the small town they are in. I am looking forward to more of this series.
If my boyfriend left me, after graduation, and didn't contact me for ten years, he'd be picking buckshot out of his butt forever!!! He didn't deserve a second chance! How many times in those years did he call, to check on her? To say, I still love you? Or how about, come and be with me, I miss you? How many buckle bunnies was he getting to know? Nope, nope, nope!!! Any woman who would take a man back, after ten years, or even one and not keep in touch, and expects to pick up where they left off isn't worth your time of day!! Had a hard time finishing this. Skipped parts when there wasn't any talking.
This was an awesome story with a bunch of twists and unexpected surprises. From the start of this story I was drawn in and did not want to put this down. I stayed up way past my bedtime multiple nights because there was never a good place to stop. There was always something happening and when I did finally put this down for the night, I could not wait to get back to it.
The characters were well thought out and very relatable. This is book one in the series and I am very excited to read the next book. I’m not quite ready to let these characters go.
This was my first book by this author but definitely not my last! I’s so happy to have found her!
I really enjoyed this sweet and sexy second chance love story. Katy thought she had it all. A great family, a wonderful boyfriend and a beautiful future. She had no idea how wrong she would be. But Katy is a strong woman and when her world falls apart, her past comes calling to try to help her, protect her and save her.
Katy and Sean's story shows how sometimes, trying to do what's right can sometimes really hurt the ones you love and that even when all seems lost, you can have a bright beautiful future!
Katy and Sean are one heck of good example of second chances at love!
After tragedy strikes, Sean comes home to support his childhood love. The woman he has always loved... the woman that was now to scared to be broken by this man again.
Through all the tragedy and heartbreak and did I mention unexpected twists this is one of my HEA!
What a terrific book! I literally could not put it down! Right from the beginning it takes off with a girls parents dying in a car crash and goes on from there.Wave after wave of problems and mysterious actions going on,with no end in sight. But just when you think you have it all figured out it changes again! So please do yourself a favor and read this book,I’m sure you’ll love it ! Hope I get to read the rest of this series!
4.5 Stars for this debut novel! Flora's first novel hit it out of the park with this second chance love story! She created very real, emotional, and detailed characters in Katherine and Sean and provided twists and turns I never expected along the way. It was a great, easy read and I look forward to more in the Texas Hearts series.
The books I love the best are the ones that have you feeling the emotions right along with the characters. Every tear. Every laugh. Every angry moment. Every happy moment. That and then some was delivered on this very bittersweet journey of Katy and Sean as they try to find their way back to being Peach and Cowboy. Great read!
This is a really good book! I had hard time putting it down once I started reading it. The characters in this book to through a lot of pain and other emotions before finding their happy ending.
New to me author but quite a good story. Love the turmoil, the drama, the heartache, and the danger. Don't know anyone that could survive all that. The interesting thing is its only book one.
Her former boyfriend comes home to care for her after the death of her parents. They have to get through many obstacles to overcome their past mistakes, little do they know there is extreme danger coming they could never imagine.
Lovely book! I had just finished a book that was a little too dark for my taste and I wanted a "feel good" book to read. This one did just that and more! It had a little bit of everything and didn't lag, just rolled right along. Most important, it put a smile on my face and made me feel great! Thanks Flora Burgos😊
I absolutely loved this story. I read the book in about 4 hrs.... I couldn't put it down. this is a great first book by Flora Burgos. I can't wait to read the next story
