Weeks after the EMP, society is collapsing. Food is scarce and violence prevails. Surviving has never been harder.
Max's group is heading west, trying to find a home away from the chaos. They'll need more supplies for their trip, so they go scavenging in a seemingly-abandoned town. But is Albion really as safe as it seems?
Chad thought he had it together. He'd been pulling his own weight. But the stress is getting to him. Does he have the strength to resist a path back to his old habits? One wrong move and he could put everyone's life in danger.
Holed up in the farmhouse, John and Cynthia try to figure out their next move. The militia is closing in. Each passing minute means more danger. But where else can they go?
Pushing On is book 3 of The EMP, a post-apocalyptic survival thriller series. It deals with real people fighting for their survival every inch of the way.
Lots of action as Max, Mandy, Chad, and others fight for survival. The whole story, even the series so far is entertaining and mind boggling at how close to reality the affects on the human attitudes would turn to if an EMP happened today.
The author does a great job with characters development as you find yourself invested in wanting them to survive and kill the bad guys. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
Note that Max loses his friend. His friend actually saves a young boys life in the process of losing his. It was sad but bitter sweet for many other reasons.
This is an incredible series I have really enjoyed it right from the start. It has not been easy to read because I feel I have become very close to the people in the story and they are really struggling. This is not a happy story by any means, it is all about survival under terrible conditions and with terrible odds. However I find myself holding my breath and rooting for them every painful step of the way. The author is an amazing writer and I commend him for this heartbreakingly brilliant work. It is truly phenomenal and one of the best series I have read for a long time. I am looking forward to book 4 and what comes next.
This is Book 3 in the author's Post-Apocalyptic Series ("The EMP"), as in ElectroMagnetic Pulse. I had only read 3-4 other "Post-EMP" series books but found these scary scenarios fascinating. Could an EMP occur (either nuclear-delivered or from another high-energy source aimed at destroying some or all of the United States' electronic devices) which would make the country totally unstable. In Book 3, you follow 3 storylines, and meet "preppers", random strangers who come to depend on each other, and some very violent people who will do anything for food and water. Book 3 is very good, but you must read Book 1 and 2 first to understand the dynamics and the characters. I feel that R. Westfield's stories are good, and the characters' ordeals are fairly realistic . (Although they would have come in contact with more people (dead or alive), and disabled cars would have filled the roads). Book shows very good character development. Several weeks after the EMP , marauding militias are "shooting to kill" and stealing anything they can find. It's definitely becoming survival of the fittest and smartest -- and luckiest. I definitely would read a "book 4". There is good character development... You can't read these books without wondering "how long would I live?" and "should I have a plan in place?" .... because it's very plausible.
After such an improvement in quality in the last book, I was disappointed by this one. The story itself wasn't terrible but it just fell a bit flat for me; it was more like filler for the author to use to just get characters from one place to another. While the changing POVs between the various characters hasn't bothered me, I felt like it was unnecessary to do them for the side characters, especially when they only ended up getting killed a chapter or two in their storyline. Another aspect that bothered me was the lack of editing; there were too many times of repetitive information or the author seemed to lose track of who was saying what. I'm still intrigued by the story and will continue reading, but the bar on what to expect has fallen back down to what it was with the first book.

Still weak to non existent editor. I will NOT pay for any more books from this author. I was hoping and praying he'd improve. Very hard to read repetitive phases and actions. All the characters use the phrase EMP over and over. Don't understand why the author spent a whole chapter on back history (info dump) of a character only to kill him in the same chapter.
6 leave the farmhouse as they see ten men and women in camo gear heading towards the farmhouse heavily armed Militia guys from Philly. Heading west. They meet a man who knew Max’s Grandad. He and his family feed the six and ready them to stay the night. However they soon have to rush off as the militia guys not as many are seen coming towards the farmstead. The family send them off with extra food and ammo, refusing to go with them. Read more to find out.
Survival! A word that could mean a lot of things. In this case life or death. This is book 3 and the continuity of the storyline is great. I feel sorry for Max as he has the biggest job. Keeping everyone alive. This series is as good as another I have read three or four times. I recommend this EMP Survival series. It is hard to put down once you get started.
Just as good as the first two books in the series. The one thing I was hung up on, I didn't really like Max in this one - He's kind of become a heartless dick. Also, they make some really dumb decisions in this book which makes it painful, but still a page turner. I actually started to enjoy John's story, it really picks up in this book. I will definitely read the next book in this series.
The third in the series is very real and detailed. Life is hard and surviving harder. People die and people get hurt. Max and John have not reunited yet but the hope is there. Georgia, Mandy, Sadie, James and Max are pushing on. John and Cynthia are still together and alive. Book four will bring more surprised I am sure.
I like back and forth of the story lines. And the surprise that makes has a brother that is out looking for, and going through some of the same things max is going through. There wasn’t anything that I dislike about any part of the story. Not everyone may agree on the five stars put I found the stories very enjoyable to read
Westfield continues the journey of Max, Mandy, Chad, Georgia, and the kids. They encounter people who aren't the nicest and keep fighting to survive. Meanwhile Max's brother John and Cynthia learn more about themselves and trust both good and bad. It was a fast paced book and the ending left me hanging so the next one is in queue.
This story gets you wondering about the future. I read a Prepped book last year and felt like I should prepare for natural disasters BUT this is so different. Now I'm sure , I've got to prepare for disasters. I don't know if I can prepare for this though. Got to Pray...
I’ve said this before. I read a lot of survival stories and this is the one closet that is more likely to occur. Besides the story, I’m learning that you plan, plan and plan. For me, it would be hurricanes. So, I’m learning from the group that their are safety in numbers and everyone has a known and unknown skill set.
Book three is fast paced and has good logical action. The author allows character's to be in danger and killed so it keeps you guessing as to what will happen. Few new supporting characters that fit the story well. I think the dialogue makes this better then normal and keeps the action moving without over explanation. Good read!
Started reading this part and just seem that time just zipped by. Our survivors has a lot to get through, meet new friends only to lose them. Chad finally did something for someone else. There is danger with all strangers, their evil or the ones who looking through. Rose colored glasses, i keep reading the series.
What a wonderful series this has been. Pushing On: A Post-Apocalyptic EMP Survival is book 3 in an awesome series. I am totally in love with the characters. I find myself holding my breath just waiting for what happens next. I can't wait for book 4! Great job Ryan!
I just love this series of us great. The way the story goes it throws you for a little bit, you don't expect things to happen that way. Enjoy the series as much as I have.
I just couldn’t stop until I’d read all three plus the short story. I started the series because it said 3 book series. Now I find out there’s a book 4. I hate not reading the entire series in one go. This series is very intense.
Another very good read in this fine series. I really like the characters, how they interact with their companions as well as how they fight their enemies. I highly recommend this book and series for anyone looking for a good adventure read.
Okay. There was a loss...but nothing big. It is what it is. Still trying to survive. Really weird twist. What do you need to rebuild a civilization? Pushing on to book 4.
Loses are hard when you don't have time to mourn. You can't always prepare for what's coming next or who to trust. Fast paced book of survival while fearing the unknown.
Fun easy read that has plenty of twists. I like that frequently im.learning something while getting plenty of action. The characters haven been well developed and its interesting watching them grow.
