Kate's Pride is a Southern Gothic historical which takes place in McNairy County, Tennessee between the end of the Civil War and the turn of the century. Youg Kate Randsome finds herself in the family way and abandoned by the man she loves, her family and the community she grew up in. Follow Kate through the pitpalls and joys of her life after that pivitol moment.
As a seventh generation West Tennessean, I've grown up with an extended family -- aunts, uncles, cousins (as distant as fourth and fifth!), grandparents and great aunts and great uncles. Growing up within that large network of family has given me a wonderful sense of who I am and where I came from...even if I don't always know where I'm going!
Sins of the Mother contains nice, descriptive writing. I did find the story to be depressing and I found the ending unsatisfying. I will post my full review soon.
What a heartbreaking but spellbinding book. Susan Boles does a wonderful job telling the story of Kate, who finds herself pregnant and abandoned by the man who swore he loved her and was going to marry her. Branding her a fallen woman in the late 1860's. She takes us through her life's journey and struggles after her family and friends shun her. Living in this day and age it's hard to even fathom what life was like for women who made the choice of trusting a man and having premarital sex, but this author gives us a real feel for the shame and constant struggle one of these women would have had. Kate both made me feel bad for her and her children especially, while she irritated me with her stubbornness. Stubbornness does help her survive but also because of some decisions she made, makes her life so much harder while also making it harder for those around her. I received an ARC copy with the understanding I would give an honest review.
A heartbreaking tale of a young woman and the pain and suffering she had to endure right after the civil war. I received this book I. Exchange for a fair and true review
A very telling and tragic story of love, loss, unforgiveness, and a familial cycle of pain. It reminds all readers how necessary it is, even at difficult moments, to balance judgement with mercy, lest we, ourselves, fall victim to the very sentiments and miseries we decry.
This is my own book under my pen name Renee Russell. If you love Southern Gothic historicals, this is a good read for you. "Home is where they have to take you in...but sometimes it doesn't work that way."
Story was good until the end. The ending seemed abrupt and actually thought I was missed pages! Proof reading certainly could have been much better. Lots of errors.
