I passed the SHRM-SCP exam. I did the practice exams in this book and liked the electronic format for those that let you see answer feedback immediately or simulate an actual exam. There is value in getting one’s head into the zone of the types of questions and topics to be asked. However given that 40% of the exam is situational questions, you either have good instincts or you don’t. No prep tool can teach you that and this one’s feedback on those answers were not that helpful anyway (I.e. “answer B is incorrect because it is not as good as answer C.”). The primary reason for the two star rating is poor editing. Lots of typos and I think even some incorrect information. It’s one thing to have that occur in something people read out of pure interest but it is not cool to be found in something purchased to help pass a test, especially one that is expensive to take.

Good information to provide a foundation for the test, or to gain general knowledge of all areas of HR. However, it’s organized very poorly with numerous typos (even some wrong answers in the practice questions). With the rolling out of the SHRM BASK in 2022, some of the information in this book is outdated.

Might as well add this to the books I read this year because dammit, it took months of my life to get through and kept me from more fun reads.

If you're here looking for a book for the SHRM-CP in 2023 or later, be warned that the content changed and you'll be doing a lot of supplemental reading 😑 I still got a ton of good info from this though.

Pretty helpful with prep and the practices exams were nice. Although I highly recommend this, keep in mind that it is outdated. My biggest issue was the organization of the book. A lot of things labeled under SCP were definitely needed if you are taking the CP exam. Get this but supplement it with other resources.

As far as study guides go. If you’re taking the SHRM SCP or CP. Buy this book. While studying is never fun, they made it easy to focus on target areas. I also highly recommend the complementary exam books.
