Riots have broken out across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa. Disturbing news footage floods the cable news channels. People are running scared, terrified. Frightened.
Dana is oblivious. She’s in her final meeting with Miss Jenkins, her caseworker. Dana’s juvie record is an inch thick, a catalogue of misdemeanors. She’s destined to spend her life behind bars.
Stressed out and looking for some much-needed distraction, Dana turns up at her boyfriend’s apartment. But something is wrong.
Darren is not alone.
He’s in bed with another girl. Eating her, and not in a good way. He attacks Dana with savage violence. She puts him down, but not before his blood-stained teeth tear into her arm.
With the world falling apart, Dana fears the worst. She rushes to the only person who’s ever mattered to her, her younger sister Max.
Dana promises she will protect her forever, keep her safe. No matter what.
But then she's betrayed by those meant to protect her, and Max is taken.
Can Dana find her sister before she turns into the very monster she wishes to protect her from? Or will she be too late?

This was a story about a girl who was on the wrong side of the law her whole life. Now 18, finally ready to enter the world as an adult, the only thing that mattered to Dana was her little sister Sam. So when the zombie apocalypse breaks out, she has to fight against some pretty big odds to get to her, just to have her in her grip for less than a few hours. Then the military took Sam from Dana and now she’s been fighting zombies and other humans and military to try to fight her way back to Sam.
I really enjoyed book two. Dana and Hugo are still on the mission of finding her sister Max. It seems that they could be getting closer but will find themselves going over different obstacles to not only find her, but to keep themselves alive. There is a scene that happens within the book that reminded me of the story of Hansel and Gretel. I kept thinking man this is a crazy scene I know that have to survive because Dana is a survivor. Not all survivors will be helpful it seems that you have to watch out for the undead and the humans though which one is worse? There is non stop action and the plot is steady. The characters are well developed, the author did a great job with this book. I think this is going to make an good zombie series.
Resistant (Resistance #2) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
After serving the latest in a long line of delinquent crime imprisonments, feisty Dana is being given an inspiring pep-talk by Ms Jenkins; it's hopefully the last sentence. Disillusionment comes when Dana overhears Ms Jenkins start to give exactly the same spiel to the next hooligan into her office! Dana's looking forward to being reunited with her young sister, Max, whom she's missed so much; unfortunately she'll have to wait as Max's mother and their (joint) father are taking her to the zoo for the day. At her boyfriend's flat shortly afterwards, Dana's horrified by the sights within...then forced to extreme action to escape with her life when he attacks her and insatiably tries to drink her blood. She's also alerted to similar abhorrences on a much larger scale when she watches a news broadcast, that says emergency services are overwhelmed by victims of this wave of rioting and violent blood-lust, which has spread world-wide! Arrested for double murder [of Darren and his previous victim, still naked and dead in the flat's bedroom] Dana despairs; only a breakout of the zombie virus among the other prisoners enables her to return home and save Max from a horrible fate.
What will happen to Dana and Max? How can life every return to normal when nobody knows what caused the outbreaks or how to stop them? Who rescues Dana from the nightmare environment at the jail? Will she be able to find and rescue Max after the two sisters are separated? What are the implications when Dana proves immune to the effects of the virus? Where will she and Hugo go to find Max - and a possible cure?
This fascinating novel by the inspired apocalyptic writer Perrin Briar gives a unique and believable what if...? scenario of an alternative future existence, peopled by well-developed characters in an engaging storyline to start an exciting series. I would willingly recommend it to fans of apocalyptic, rites-of-passage, overcoming-the-odds, fantasy novels of any age with a taste for feisty female protagonists in stories with gritty potential realism...5 stars at least...or more!
This is a post Apocalyptic book about a young girl just 18 years old that has been released from "juive". As she goes to visit her boyfriend, she finds he has turned into the undead. As she escapes, she meets up with an overweight young man named Hugo. This book chronicles her attempt to find her sister as well as dealing with Hugo. I gave this book 5 stars because the writing of the author just pulls you in, plus you have the added fun of the undead. Zombie lovers will really like this book.
I read other books by this author, and I am not dissapointed. Every story is fresh and exciting. This book is fun, terrifying and so realistic . I.love the main character: flawed, imperfect yet brave and loyal. The clashes with the zombies are very realistic...i like that the epidemic occurred and people were going along their daily lives one day and in an instant, the world turns to hell. The other characters are interesting also...the jail scene was exciting and also funny. I won't reveal anymore....a must read.
This book is a bit different from the other zombie books I read. This one is thru the eyes of an infected girl that is resistant to the virus, or infection. It's a good book and gives you a bit of different view of what might happen. I am looking forward to the second book.
This is another one of Mr. Briar's great books leaving you hanging and hard to put down. Is this going to be book two of three in a series or will there be more than that? No matter how he decides to do it, he has me to count on as a fan of his material and hopefully always will.
I really like this story. The characters are so well done I really feel for them. There is plenty of action and terror in this book. I can hardly wait to read the next one.
Very interesting new take on an old theme, looking forward to reading the next one series. The writer has me invested in the gates of these characters. Am keeping an eye out for other books by the same author.
This book was good. Lots of action, a background on the main characters and not a lot of blood and gore, unless it fit the storyline. Over all, I think it's worth your while.
I'm really torn on this book. The parts of it I liked but there are other parts of it that I just did nothing for me. It was a kind of a push for me to finish reading it. But overall I did enjoy it.
