Dear Daniel,
"I take you Daniel, to be my husband. My companion. My best friend. You've proven to me that two people joined together with respect, trust, and communication can be stronger and happier than we could ever be alone.You are the strength I didn't know I needed. You are the joy I didn't know I was lacking. Today I promise to love you for who you are now and for the man you have yet to become. I promise my patience through this journey. I promise to remember that everything between us is rooted in love. I promise to dream with you, to encourage you. I promise you my whole heart, to show you every day how deeply I love you. I promise to stand with you through every ounce of joy and every piece of sorrow that life may bring to us. I promise to love you loyally and fiercely for as long as I live. With these words, and my heart, I marry you and bind my life to yours."
I meant those words. Every single one of them. It's why I asked that we write our own vows instead of using traditional ones.
"Til death do us part" wasn't part of our plan. Until it was.
When I lost you, I lost myself.
I was shattered in a way that I knew I'd never find all the pieces. After all these years, I'm still lost.
But this is my promise to you - and to myself: I will be that person again. The fearless and bold person who takes life by the horns. I will live - really live - my life from this day forward.
At the very least, I will try.
