One Life is a Massively Multiplayer Online game where players can escape the reality of the classist wasteland that is the real world, and enter a realm filled with fantasy and adventure. However, when a terrorist organisation called the Shadow Prophets realise that they can manipulate the game to help fund their own dark ventures, they try to take control.

This book took me on an exciting fantasy adventure into the online gaming world. Along with this adventure it also gave me an engaging interest and became a page-turner. I loved the pop culture references and the humour throughout the book. I liked the character traits of Lucas, he is such a lovable character. I think the writing style and language was easy to read, this book would appeal to young readers.

One Life was a suspenseful tale that was hard to put down! The protagonist faces many challenges in this adventure story that leave you gritting your teeth, unsure of what could possibly happen next. The somewhat post-apocalyptic setting was realistic and eerily possible for the future. This book has a lot to offer the reader, carefully balancing drama with humour. In my opinion the theme of the novel lends itself to a young adult/teen audience but could easily be enjoyed for all ages! Fantastic read!

This book is entirely what I expect (and even hope) Ready Player One to be when it hits theaters later in the year. That production was directed by Steven Spielberg and undoubtedly had some version of an astronomical budget. This book was written by Luke Green but is in no way less impressive. What I really liked about One Life is that whether you're into gaming or not, you can understand the concept of the story.
However, if you do participate in massively multiplayer worlds this book might really speak to you. Luke Green writes like a gamer, showing an understanding of in game interactions as well as digital currency and how it effects real life budgeting. He's no Leeroy Jenkins.
The plot starts out this way- Lucas is a bit of a down and out gamer, one who once had a "high class" job working in retail. While this may not sound like a power position to us, Lucas lives in a world where jobs are few and even those that have them make less that $5/hr. To say the economy as well as the country's infrastructure had collapsed would be an understatement. What little money most people have is fueled into two things, food and online gaming. It's their escape from the drudgery of reality. Lucas is doing fine, trudging along both in game and out, until he meets a girl. She's odd. She treats his avatar like its of no consequence, and he's more than intrigued by her. What happens next is quite an exciting ride.

I loved every single new phase this book went through. I fell in love with the character and I felt tense trying to find out how things worked out for him. The pop culture references continuously caught me off guard and made me laugh out loud which I think connects the reader to the character. The incredible attention to detail not only painted the perfect scenes in my head but it also made me want to play videogames again after not giving it time for a little while because it made me feel like I was right there. The twists were amazing, the ending was strong and I felt the entire story was done justice by the way it was closed. Such an amazing author.

Good story, I await more
More proofreading is in order here, plus, warp speed is startrek, not starwars. Other than that, it was a great story, and well done. I like this series and will read more as I find them. Even though the ending was completely predictable, it still sets up the story nicely for the next book. Not a lot of litrpg elements here, which might disappoint some, but if you like a good story, then you'll hardly notice.

I was surprised by this book. I enjoyed the simple writing style and the story kept my attention. About halfway through the book I was hooked. I find it interesting that the author didn't go VR. Just about everyone played the game using regular computers. I enjoyed how the characters were having a great adventure in the game but also they were in danger in real life. The movie and video game references were fun. In the end I had fun reading the story.

I will admit, I'm not a gamer nor am I a gamer fan of all the lingo etc, but I seriously could not put this down. The descriptions of scenes & scenarios where outstanding & kept my interest going non-stop! Really gave me a sense of what "online" gaming is really like! This book has DEFINITELY bought back my love of books.

I'll be honest, it took me a while to get into this book. But I kept coming back and ended up reading the last 50-60% of the book in one sitting. Once it hooks you in, you can't put it down.
The characters, story and world are all exciting and fun to read about. I'm really looking forward to book 2!

I could not put this book down! Every page kept me wanting to know what happens next. Very cool and modern storyline, not too much tech or game-speak so it is enjoyable for both gamers and non-gamers. Luke Green has a knack for drawing the reader in and immersing us in the story. Can't wait to read his next book!

This was an amazing book to read. I enjoyed reading through Lucas’s journey in “One Life”. I don’t normally choose gaming related novels but I found this book easy and fun to read and immerse myself into it. The authors writing was relatable and enjoyable to read. I’m looking forward to reading his next book.

A gripping, action-packed story where all the elements come together beautifully. Full of characters to fall in love with and the gradual blending of the two worlds is flawless. Captivating from right out of the gate until the final page. Definitely worth the read!

This book was not the type of book i would normally go for, but i really enjoyed reading it. I got really invested in the story line and ended up finishing this book in 2 days. Really loved it

When I first read what this book was about I must admit I wasn't that keen because I'm not into online gaming. But right from the start I was 'hooked'. It is written with enough detail to explain to non-gamers what is needed to know so the story makes sense. The characters in this book are so very appealing and often I found myself reading 'just another chapter' despite telling myself I'd stop! I highly recommend One Life, the gripping storyline is the perfect place to escape the everyday.
