A kindergarten class spends a day at the library where they get to comb the shelves for new books, listen to the librarian read an uproarious story, and checkout armfuls of books to enjoy.
This was a...pleasant book. Really, though, that was all it was. There is no story here, which is okay, but it also has a VERY forced rhyme scheme which made read-alouds difficult. Still, the multicultural element was unforced and, well, pleasant. It doesn't work well as a public library storytime book, but it's, yeah. Pleasant.
This book was okay. I wouldn't give it three stars but I did want to give it more than two. The illustrations were okat, nothing spectaular but okay. The story itself was quite simple. It basically shows three different kids getting excited when they leanr it's library day at school. At the end the librarian helps to pick out books for the kids and reads them a story. It could be a potential help for parents of kids like my daughter- she loves her cartoons and can take or leave books right now. I'm aware that this is normal behavior for a three year old but it's scary nonetheless. Another thing I liked was the fact that the three kids were all very different yet the same. They weren't all white or black. They showed a little white girl, a little black girl and a little hispanic boy. My daughter happens to be around a lot of muti-cultural friends of mine but if she weren't this could be a stepping stone to showing a child that everyone is different. They even included cultural names along with the children- trying to drive the point home for the children I presume. The story itself is quite simple and easy to read. It's a good anytime story and also a good one for the kids to follow along because of the simple words.
I love this picture book. It tells the story of a class' visit to their local public library. The illustrations give the impression that is an old book, but it is not. (It reminds me of my "Meg and Tim" early readers from first grade.) The multi-ethnic characters let you know that this is clearly a 21st century children's book. It is a very sweet book to read to preK children as they prepare for their first or 101st trip to the library.
This is the story of a multicultural class going to the school library. It is told in simple text with some rhyming and emphasizes the joy and excitement the class has anticipating and checking out self-choosen books.
This is a simple story about a class visit to the library told in rhyme. I really liked the fact that there was diversity and multiculturalism displayed in the characters. This was a great book for baby/lapsit storytime about books and reading.
This is a Preschool and kindergarten level book. It is a simple story that uses rhyming words and is aimed toward getting kids excited about the library. I also like that the class visiting the library is multicultural; it could easily be used for multicultural lessons with younger students.
This is an early childhood book that explains the basics of the library: how to get there, why we go, what we do there, and how much we love it! Simple illustrations and text make this an excellent entry point into discussion of how the library connects us to the books we love.
This library tour book does a terrific job of interweaving multi-culturalism, pleasant rhyming text, and the many varied interests that can be satisfied by a visit to the library. The text/illustration ratio is perfect for the attention span of pre-school thru kindergarten age children.
My three-year-old checked this out from the library but only wanted to read it once. I wasn't blown away by it, either (although we are both big fans of libraries in general, so anything to encourage library use is great, as far as I am concerned!)
simple book about library day... introduces what may happen when class goes to school library - librarian helps find book / librarian reads a story / kids check out books ...
Cute story about kids being excited to go to their library special. Would work well for Kindergarners and first graders who are new at the school library routine.
This book tells the story of some children discovering the joy of reading and story time while going to the library. That is why they call it "It's Library Day".
