Morelli Family

Entrapment

Rate this book
Get ready for the Morelli family like you've never seen them before—through the eyes of Mateo Morelli.

For four days, I kept her to myself.

For four days, she was mine.

Then, at the first opportunity, she left me.

To the world it may seem I've let her go, but she'll never be beyond my reach.

No matter where she is, no matter how she feels about me, Mia will always be mine.

And I will always be hers.

**Entrapment is a short Morelli family novel (60k words) from the oft-requested POV of Mateo. It takes place during Accidental Witness, BUT it is intended to be read at the end of the series, after all the puzzle pieces have clicked into place.
In addition to the Entrapment story, this collection includes deleted scenes from each of the seven books in the Morelli family series. **
WARNING: trigger warnings apply. This is a dark romance/mafia story with dark themes. Violence and WTF-ery abounds.

Long-ass review incoming

It's Mateo Morelli's world and I just spent 5 days in it. I couldn't sleep, I barely functioned, had no desire to work and do anything other than read, read, read, immersing myself in this story. And when it came to this last book, I had an inner battle in me: wanting to read it ASAP but dreading the end of the story. Alas, here we are and I can't NOT talk about it. My thoughts will be all over the place (kinda like this book tbh) and i wasn't sure if I should review every book separately or the whole series, but since I'm not good at compartmentalizing, here we go:

So, I had this series on my TBR for a long time. I enjoyed everything Sam Mariano has written so far, plus mafia stories are my jam so I was prepared for your typical mafia-style series. I even read the blurps for the first three books before starting the series, and this is what I knew going in:
1. The first book would be a romance between a girl and a mafioso, who's crime she witnessed, hence the name.
2. The second book would be a romance between the boss of this crime family and the girl, who tried to kill him.
3. The third book will be a love-story of said boss's right hand with some girl.

BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

If anyone reading this review watched first two seasons of the Vampire Diaries, this is the vibes I got reading book #1, where Mia (Elena) was a naive, trusting girl that always saw the best in people, Vince (Stefan) battled with the reality of his life and tried everything to warn his girl against the Big Bad Wolf, and Mateo (Damon) was an alluring, secretive force of nature lulling Mia into a sense of security by pretending to be her friend. I mean before the rape happened, obviously. And here comes the weird thing about Sam Mariano's writing: I truly believe that in life men who rape women have to have their dicks cut off; in romance stories if the hero rapes the heroine I would 99% not finish the book. Guess this was that one percent case. But I felt disturbed. I mean, what kind of a romance story was it when the main male, Vince, was bland as porridge, and you root for the girl to end up with her tormentor? Who would have his own love story in the next book? I was so infatuated with the possibility of Mia & Mateo (same as Delena in season 2), but was convinced this could never happen that I was thoroughly confused by the time book 1 ended and Mia and Vince got their happy-for-now ending.

Book 2 came around, it was Mateo and Meg's story through the eyes of Meg. She was sassy, never shut up, always landed on her feet and was generally a smart cookie. She used the strategy "keep your friend close, but enemies closer" to a T, befriended Mia and basically disarmed her for any future hypothetical moves on Mateo. Meg liked to remind everyone that by being with Mateo she was by proxy the lady of the house and this family, which grated on my nerves. Funny thing is, we got a lot more Mateo scenes, but he remained more of a mystery here, than in book one. Or better yet, as a reader, I felt more emotionally connected to him in book one, through Mia's eyes, than in book two, through Meg's eyes. It's brilliant really, if you think about it, how subtle Sam Mariano showed us the path she was taking us.

Book three was my least favorite because although Adrian was a great secondary character before, he didn't have enough potential to be the main character. But tbh, the love story of Adrian and Elise was a little bit of a red herring, serving a double purpose: on one hand, showing how those two people got together, but most importantly, showing us Mateo through the eyes of Adrian, his childhood friend, turned distant frienemy and then his right hand. Adrian despised Mateo for a lot of things, and he considered him a villain, although followed his orders nonetheless. Adrian was convinced that he saved Elise from the Big Evil, but their romance ultimately showed that she was not suffering while living at the mansion and didn't want to be saved from Mateo. This was just a plot device to show that sometimes for some people all Mateo's actions seem cruel and evil, but in reality that was not always the case. We see Mateo in his business environment through Adrian, as opposed to him in his private life through Mia and Meg.

Book 4 at that point was the most satisfactory in a romance sense of way at that point. I mean, Mia and Vince's story was just weak, Mateo and Meg's didn't manage to tickle my fancy, Adrian and Elise's was simply boring for me. But Salvatore and Francesca were great for each other, the story was interesting, it filled a lot of blanks about the occurrences in previous books. Salvatore seemed to be the most humane male character so far, tender even. And Francesca was easy to root for. But again, their story was mostly there not for their own benefit, but to give more info into the person Mateo really is. It's no coincidence that 4 books in we still had not a single POV from Mateo. He remains a mystery that we, readers, see through eyes of different people. The same facts are interpreted differently by different people, so Mateo although the center of everything, remains as elusive as ever. But now he is humanized through the eyes of Francesca, who believes her brother has a heart just if afraid of using it and nudges him in the direction of Mia every chance she has. Francesca is the biggest MateoMia shipper, which made me love her even more. At the end of the book, Francesca is happily married to Salvatore, Mia is miserable with Vince and pines after Mateo, Mateo tells her he wants her, Meg is having doubts about how over Mia Mateo really is. And Sam Mariano says that this is the first potential end of the series and offers the readers to leave it like it is. Mam, don't be coy, you know damn well no one is stopping at this point, because it's not an ending at all!

Book 5, 6 and 7 were a rollercoaster of emotions. I FELT EVERYTHING! There were scenes that made me happy, that devastated me, broke me, healed me, made me angry and sad, or elated with emotions. Some turns of events I loved, some hated. There where twist that I thought I would despise (after getting couple of spoilers from prematurely reading reviews to books unread), but ended up liking them. There where turns I couldn't wrap my head around and silently shouted at the author for going in that direction. There where actions from certain people I just couldn't get behind. All in all it was unforgettable!

Mia and Mateo were so interesting for me. Some characters thought they don't belong to each other, others say it completely different. But it was stated throughout the books that they are complete counterparts of each other, fitting together perfectly like two pieces of jigsaw puzzle. Mateo was like a chess Grandmaster, moving all the pieces on his board, anticipating who knows how many moves ahead. Mia was a pawn in his game at first, small and insignificant. He was the King of his court, ruling with cold logic and intelligence, patience and his smarts. Mia was a nobody at first, relying only on her emotions and rose-colored glasses view of life. She was powerless, he had all the power. She was naive, he was a realist. She was trusting to a fault, he was distrustful to the point of paranoia. She operated with her heart, he operated with his brain. She was selfless, he was selfish. She was light, he was dark. All the facts led to him crushing her, besting her at his own game, destroying her and moving on without a second thought. But something unexpected happened. Something the great Mateo Morelli didn't see coming, because he was using his brain, while his heart betrayed him. It's so brilliantly written in this book, where we finally see his view on everything from the start. How he first thinks he can stop at any point and get rid of Mia anytime without getting attached, only to later state that his heart stopped the second she left him. Mia, the stupid little girl, bested him in his own game, because she was the Queen of emotions. She was definitely poor in the brain department, no one could argue here, but she's one of those people who get through life happily without it. Ignorance is truly bliss sometimes.

There were a lot of things I hated in their story. Although the beginning of the whole "sister wives" debacle was not so bad for me, rather just unexpected, I hated that it lasted so long. I hated that Meg gave him 2 kids, instead of one (better yet, zero). I hated that Vince managed to kidnapp Mia from under Mateo's nose and he didn't manage to even find her. I hate that after all those years Mia craved Mateo's baby and him not using a condom from time to time "just in case", she felt pregnant with Vince's rape baby. I hated that she forgave him for that so easily and protected him against Mateo. And I hated how easily she forgave Meg and gave the same protection for her. I get that it's on point for her character, but the thing is, since she is a complete counterpart of Mateo, it would be nice to see her bend her rules for him as well. Mateo doesn't trust and never forgives, but he went against it, for making Mia happy. Mia always trusts and always forgives, but she DIDN'T go against it for Mateo. I thought it was where the story headed, when Mateo tested Meg and Mia was convinced she would loose Mateo. Rafe tried to open her eyes to it, explaining how she makes him weak in the eyes of all enemies, when she demands to spare every life. So when Mia decided that from now on she would only think of Mateo and their kids and Adrian, I really thought she would deliver. But she quickly went back to being an all forgiving doormat with Meg and Vince. I wanted at least one of them dead. If Mateo showed signs of softness for Mia's sake, Mia should've shown signs of cruelty for Mateo's sake. They would remain in a perfect harmony with each other, the perfect counterparts. Meg's alive, lives with them, sees her kids and can plot something in the future if it would benefit her. Let's be honest, the only reason she passed the test was the fear that Mia would somehow avenge Mateo later. Remove that concern, and she could strike again. Vince kind of moved on with Carly, but every five minutes had obsessive thoughts of kidnapping Mia again.

I read those books and wanted so many things to go differently, but then thought that it wouldn't get so much emotions out of me otherwise. They made mistakes, they suffered, they sacrificed their own happiness for one another, they found their way back to each other. It was a magnificently crazy ride! It was unforgettable. Sam Mariano I bow my head to your talent! You managed to create the most deviously great character of all and give him a very unexpected romance story ever! Thank you for my 5 days with Mateo Morelli. What a ride!

4.5 stars- The missing puzzles I needed

To figure out what the h e l l Mateo’s been thinking all this time… I never knew how O B S E S S E D he was 👀.

The majority of this book is Mateo’s POV in book 1, the book that set the tone for the rest of the series. The vulnerability in Mateo is humanizing and humbling, and that’s saying a lot because this man is NEVER like this- until Mia, and as soon as he feels like a different man and *happy*, things change. The decisions he makes are ones he regrets, because Mia passes all the tests with flying colors, but what he does to get her to pass tested her line, and he crossed it and pushed her away 😬.

KARMA 😅🫣.

Then we get glimpses of what goes on in his head for the rest of the books. I enjoyed it all, for the most part (I’d like to pretend that book 5 doesn’t exist 😑😒).

But what was really telling on the impact that Mia has on Mateo is his character arc. He might seem cold and hard on the outside, but his squishy soul mate was the balm he needed to soothe his soul and what made him seem more human. He’s still a callous man in many aspects, but not in the ones that matter.

Plus, doling justice on something that happened in the past was VERY rewarding 💅💁🏻‍♀️.

And the 🔥 oh Lordt. It was 🥵. We finally see what happened all those days Mateo had Mia sequestered in his room as well as other pivotal moments throughout the series (like the end of Once Burned book 3). The way he knows EXACTLY what she needs and how she needs it is 🔥😅🥵💦. Even the night where she fights him the hardest ever, he knows what he needs to do (yeah, I’m not happy with what he did BEFORE he got to Mia 😑 but I understood why he did it).

There’s something magnetic about Mateo… and I’m glad he and Mia will finally have their true HEA.

Man, Mateo and Mia I mean... I’m just absolutely in love with Mateo. Mia is a beautiful person inside and out with a kind and generous heart. Mateo is everything I have ever wanted and didn’t know I needed!
This is Mateo’s POV and it gives us A LOT of insight into what all went down and all the thing he really had to do. This is such a good book to end the series. I am a huge Mateo fan and was waiting with bated breath to read his side of things. It utterly blew my mind well past any expectations I had going into this. He is very cut

I’m in love with him lol I still hate Meg and Vince ugh especially Vince. I despise Vince. I'm trying to stay away from any spoilers but at this point, I hope that whoever sees this book has read the series in order.

The Morelli Family Series must be read in order from books 1-7.5

7.5 is Mateo's POV from the time of Accidental Witness when Mia had to make a deal with him to stay with him for 4 days. This book is a spoiler in itself if you haven’t read any of the Morelli Family series books thus far and will not be enjoyable unless you’ve read the Mateo and Mia love story in it’s entirety.

For mans of Mia and Mateo as a couple we saw redemption in this book. We saw a man willing to go as far as it takes to be with the woman he loves. In all the ways that mattered, Mateo saw who Mia really was. He loves her for who she is. She is his light in his life.

Theirs is a beautiful love story full of twists and turns, heartbreak, laughter and redemption.

This is a dark series, and all books contain some sort of dark elements, BDSM, erotica, abuse, etc.

Some of those bed time story scenes were just on fire!! I loved that we got to see exactly was going through Mateo's psychotic sexy brain while he was doing the things he did. It's clear to see what he felt for Mia from the start. I hate the scenes with Meg, because I just don't like her and if she were a real person I would find her and kick her ass. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book!!

I loved this so much.

I loved seeing inside Mateo's unique mind. I loved everything about this book. I was so sad for him, even if he brought his problems on himself. I've never felt like characters in a book were this real before, lol. I love Mateo so much. I'm so happy he found Mia. She brought love into his life. I just love these two so much!

A must-read, like this whole series!

4.75/5 ★★★★★

Things finally make sense after reading this one.
I always knew Mateo loved Mia. (Mia and no one else.) I needed this to understand where his head was at with Meg and the whole sister-wives BS. I'm glad I finally got to have a glimpse inside the messed up but remarkable brain of Mateo Morelli.

So, here goes----

First off, I don't like the cover. Just, 𝘯𝘰!
It isn't by any means a fair representation of this book and that makes me sad.
We needed something more along the lines of dark eyes mooning over a woman either walking away or walking towards said eyes.
Oh well. That's why it's not a perfect 5★ for me.
Well that and because there's so much more I wanna read from Mateo's POV. Poor Sam Mariano!
Her Morelli family fans want 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 from Mateo's perspective!

𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘯!

The thoughts that ran through his mind were so romantic. I wish he verbalized even one-tenth of those to Mia.

Although I loved this series, I hated how Mateo treated Meg, the mother of his children and poor Vince.
He could have ended it with Meg long before he got her pregnant with their second child afterall he had Mia by then.
I hated how the author made Meg the bad guy in later books, so unecessary. He told her he loved her and proposed to her in the hospital after she took a bullit for him, how he felt when he thought he had lost her.
I know he always wanted Mia but when he finally had her he should have finished it with Meg. I hated how he was absoutely unfair in their sister wives relationship, and where was Mia ? The nearest thing to God apparently in her goodness and kindness said nothing about the unfairness of the situation. It left a dirty taste in my mouth and disappointed in the author. Entrapment was the authors way of justifying the way both Meg and Vince were treated.
I gave some of the other books in this series 5 stars as it was brilliant but I cant get passed how Mia let Mateo treat Meg before she was kidnapped.

This is bittersweet because I don't want Mateo's story to end. I wish we could see all the books through his perspective. I love him so much and I know that's messed up.

The bonus chapters were interesting, except for the weird "fantasies" about Adrian. I didn't really need that.

Didn't really need Meg's POV, didn't really care.

I will really miss Mateo and Mia.

We really shouldn't be surprised. Has anything about this series been less than explosive? Once again Sam captured us with her web and painstakingly devoured our souls. These final words, through Mateo's eyes and deleted scenes just capped off the perfection that this series is. I can't thank you enough Sam for giving us all insight into your twisted and devious mind. I'm going to go sob in the corner now and think about the day when the stories have left my mind enough that I can jump back in and reread this series and get pulled into the magic again.

This was the perfect ending.....

This was perfection. First finding out when and what sank Mateo’s battleship with Mia. It was priceless. Then all the the deleted scenes ....oh man the adult bedtime stories, hot, hot, hot! The missing date of Meg and Rafe, Carly gets a job, Gambling scrabble games, and momma Mia wants a girl. Sigh....this was a wonderful way to say goodbye.

I really enjoyed reading some extra POV throughout this book. My favorites were of Mateo during Accidental Witness. I absolutely loved that he fell in love with Mia pretty much immediately and although we knew Mateo loved Mia throughout the entire series. It was good to go back to the beginning and see it from his perspective.

The only thing I wish was here and I said it in my review for book 6, was Mateo's POV during Mia's time in Vegas. I wanted to know his feelings when he found out she was gone, how it really felt for him when he was going and when did he fully plan on getting Meg out of his life! I want to know his side of this so bad!!!

Nooooooo!!!

The end? THE END? I am seriously going to cry. This has been such a beautiful, immersive series with exquisite writing. Nearly zero grammar or spelling errors, deep development of characters, multiple POVs. These books break the mold of the modern romance genre...I didn't even try to guess what was going to happen next, because my mind was so present during the entire story. I definitely recommend this series to everyone, even if you are sick and tired of mafia romances. This series is far above and beyond the rest.

i liked like first half of the book because it was really just mateo’s pov on their story, and i wished it stayed that way until the end of the book, like literally mateo’s pov from the start to the end of the series. 3 stars bc i only enjoyed mateo’s pov

but it was so so good to know mateo’s thoughts during that 4 days

I can NOT express how much I LOVED being able to read this particular scene from Mateo's POV! When I started reading, I was like, "DAMN SAM! You really pulled out the big guns and jumped into this scene!" *biting nails*But this was the PERFECT scene to give us fans from Mateo's POV. Knowing the inner workers of Mateo's mind is just scary but yet very compelling. For those of you that have read ACCIDENTAL WITNESS, you will understand when I say that the first part of this novella takes place during Mia's "four days of hell" in ACCIDENTAL WITNESS, but in this book, we get Mateo's POV! And when I say you thought you knew what happened during those 4 days after reading Mia's POV, you are sorely mistaken. Mateo's perspective on those 4 days is so enlightening! I have more of a understanding and clarity on HOW Mia started to fall for Mateo and vice versa.

There's one particular bonus deleted scene I could probably read over and over. That's all I'll say #fantasy *smirk*

And I want to make it clear that you MUST read this AFTER you are finished with the series! This book is packed full of deleted scenes, but some of those scenes were deleted because they were actual scenes that are in the series, but told from a different POV, so if you read them before you finish, that can ruin your experience. TRUST ME!

5 stars!

AUTHORS NOTE: **Entrapment is a short Morelli family novel (60k words) from the oft-requested POV of Mateo.

I know, I know- I gave most of the other books 3 stars but an epilogue 4? Here’s why: we get a lot more Mateo. I loved reading his POV from the first book and it helped me understand why he progressed his relationship with Meg so quickly. It was all because of Mia. We know from the previous book that he didn’t even really like Meg, but in this one we get the why they even started. Mateo just wanted to use Meg to make Mia comfortable and put Vince at ease. He wanted to seduce Mia in the right way, without forcing he hand because she’d feel guilty about leaving Vince. Mia doesn’t like hurting people’s feelings. He states repeatedly in this book that he regretted letting her go back to Vince at the end of book 1 because he saw what an abusive asshole he was toward Mia: constantly blaming her for what was done to her and getting violent. Honestly, this book made me wish, for the thousandth time, that Vince has a bullet in his head. He doesn’t deserve happy. Mateo also found out Mia was abused and took care of the asshole scumbag. I don’t think Mia ever found out because she blocked out that memory. I also liked all of the bonus scenes. We got 2 scenes where Meg tried to sabotage Mia but Mia being Mia turned it around. My favorite was when Mia insisted on buying an environmentally friendly blue ray player and Meg couldn’t put it together. She struggled for a while insisting she could do it on her own until finally Mia put it together in 2 seconds. Of course Mateo saw everything. I really enjoyed all of the bonus scenes. Love love love Mia & Mateo

First of all, any books with Mateo Morelli in them are a must read! Secondly, when it's a book with Mateo's POV?!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

This book was great!! It was wonderful finally getting into Mateo's head and getting the lead up to where he started falling in love with Mia.

There are also lots of deleted scenes from each of the books. My favorite one was Mateo's POV at the end of Once Burned when Mia was taken.

The only complaint I have was that I wanted more of Mateo's POV. I would have liked to see more of his plotting when he decided to make Mia his and get her back from Vince. I also wanted more of his thoughts from (spoilers)

when he made Mia think he had killed Vince and how grief stricken she had been. What were his thoughts when she had freaked out, when she was locked in the bathroom and he didn't know if she was trying to commit suicide?

What about when he finally told her the truth? And when she was kidnapped in the next book? I would have liked to know all this thoughts then.

I realize we couldn't get his thoughts during the other books as it would have given away what would happen next, but I just wanted more of Mateo's POV from the whole series rather than the 4 days he held Mia captive in his bedroom. Though that part was great!! And the sex scenes were hot.

Not sure about the sex scenes in the deleted scenes with Adrian, but they were definitely interesting.

Overall, it was a very good book and I recommend reading it after the other 7 books.
