Angie Prouty Nantucket Mysteries #2

Prize and Prejudice: A Cozy Mystery Novel

Rate this book
Nantucket can be murder this time of year. A cozy mystery perfect for fans of Cynthia Ellingsen, Leighann Dobbs, Hope Callaghan, and Agatha Frost. Christmas on Nantucket Island is a beautiful time of year, complete with hot cocoa, snow, and holiday cheer. To make things even more interesting, Nantucket’s wealthiest resident has set up an island-wide treasure hunt for a painting that could be worth millions—a lost Monet that was gifted by a French businessman after an illicit love affair over a century ago. The only drawback? Only a tourist can win the hundred-thousand-dollar prize for finding the painting. Angie Prouty, proud owner of the Pastries & Page-Turners bookstore, is having a great season because of the treasure hunt, business-wise…but at what cost? Angie’s new employee is great, but somehow Angie’s workload seems worse than ever. Her best friend and her new boyfriend have disappeared onto the mainland, and the tourists are getting weirder and more aggressive as they search for the painting, tearing up floors and trying to upend bookshelves. Worst yet, one of the tourists turns up dead and the police try to explain it away as an accident. Angie had sworn off solving murders, at least for the busy holiday season. But now she’s going to have to figure out how to juggle her bookstore, her boyfriend, and this mysterious death. And the best way to do that might just be to find that lost Monet before anyone else. This cozy mystery/amateur sleuth novel is book two in the Angie Prouty Nantucket Cozy Mystery Series. Be sure to get a copy of Miranda Sweet's latest cozy mystery - The Bun Also Rises - out now!

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this mystery and thought the scavenger hunt was a fun concept. I also love that it is set in Nantucket. I was disappointed that Walt was fairly absent from most of this book, and I didn't like the set up of what seems may be a love triangle. That angle felt forced and is kind of a let down for me.

Entertaining mystery listening

This kindle e-book novel is from my Kindle Unlimited account book 2 of 3

Angie's friend is coming from Boston but he does not show up. He is found dead. Is it murder? Angie is involved in the investigation which points to a number of people. Angie uncovering the truth leading to the arrest of the killer and a happy ending.

I would recommend this series and author to readers of romantic family and friends relationships mystery novels. 2024

This is the second book I have read by Miranda Sweet. The second book I have read that was written by a writing team of several people. I think I only found one continuity issue, which IMHO is amazing considering. Angie is a book store owner on the island of Nantucket. She is very bright, having been a data analyst, and has a propensity to get involved in mysteries. The local constabulary is beginning to get it that she is not an interferring busy body, but a person compelled to analyze and solve problems. The first book in the series involved the murder of her landlord during the 4th of July. This second book involves the murder of a friend, who is a Harvard professor. It also involves an unlikely quest to find a lost Monet gifted...missing over 100 years. Only tourists can win. How many residents of Nantucket are going to allow a bunch or crazy tourist to go through their homes and business in search of a lost painting. Another problem I have is that in most mysteries taking place in a small community, the culprit is normally not an insider. I guess they might not run out of residents, but theoretically they could. You will like this book, especially if you have visited Nantucket.

Different and enjoyable

I liked this book because it was not like all the others I've read recently. It was leisurely and multifaceted. There was uncertainty in the heroine's daily work and her personal life. You want to get to know her better, and indeed of her friends. I hope the author continues with some of the same characters. While I gave it four stars rather than five, it was a good book. You will enjoy reading it.

Fun cozy with more then enough suspense

I love to read this type of mystery as a break from more graphic trillers, this one did not disappoint. The story of the missing painting and the forger made it a very interesting read, the setting made me want to visit Nantucket. I’m not sure what to think of her love interests, her boyfriend was away for most of the book and because I never read the first in this series-I felt like I was missing why they were a couple. This feeling intensified as the book neared the ending and an ex announced that he was still interested. He seemed like more of a brother then a lover so...this book isn’t a romance but both men were a weak spot in the book for me. Maybe the first book is needed to flesh Walter out?
I enjoyed the book overall though and was not sorry to read it.

Murder and Mystery on Nantucket

I just happen to have got this book free on Amazon, and as I have said before, I get a lot of great books this way. I have been to Nantucket many times and it always makes me think of the great and happy memories. This book actually turned out to be really good. The setting of a bookstore is not unique and neither is a book on Nantucket but it's a really good combination. I loved the characters. Everything was described in detail and the book flowed well. There is a lot of excitement bot with the murder and the treasure hunt. I liked the story and I will definitely go back and read the first book. As with many books lately, there are a few typos but they in no way take anything away from the book.

Another great mystery by Miranda Sweet

This was another very entertaining story by a talented author that I've recently discovered. The mystery was not an easy one to solve, for me or Angie. Like the first book, the characters are very likable, especially Angie, her Aunt Margery, Mickey and Jo. I feel that Walter is still a wild card. I'll be reading the next book in the series as soon as possible. This series is an intriguing adventure for all cozy mystery lovers. Don't miss it.

Prize and Prejudice, book 2

This is book two and parts of it feels choppy and doesn't flow. I found myself going back an rereading parts for clarity. I found a lot of typographical mistakes as well. I also did not feel a connection with any of the characters. I may try getting book 1 and see how it flows. Parts of it was good so I hope the author will find another proofreader and editor to help

Would have been 5 stars but for proofreading errors

I enjoyed the story and characters and would have rated higher but for the need for proofreading. Misspelling wasn't the problem (I got the feeling a spell checker had been used). The problem was that though spelled correctly the wrong words were used throughout. I just personally find it distracting from an otherwise good read to have to mentally correct as I read.

Another great cozy mystery

I truly enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing all the way to the end. The characters were fun and they were friends forever. I thought my senior years would be like that, little did I know that my job was going to a different state. I miss all of the OK people so much but now I have many friends in Arkansas now plus kids and grandkids here. I am ready to read the rest of this series. Please read this cozy mystery and enjoy it as I have.

Was this a book? Well, I guess it was. Do all cozy mysteries play fast and loose with facts, conjecture, police procedure, and the readers ability to suspend common sense and knowledge?? When I found out that author Miranda Sweet is indeed a committee, much was explained. The committee needs to regroup and learn to work together if they are to write a cohesive tale. This was ridiculous, and I don't mean funny. A waste of time even if it was free.

Quite Interesting

I liked the setting, the characters, and the theme. I did not guess the culprit which is a sign of a good cozy murder mystery. I would have given 5 stars but it was the edit errors that kept me from doing that. There is a bit of adult language as well. But, overall this book was hard to put down.

Great Story but disappointing addition!

The story was excellent! I was really enjoying trying to figure out who duunit, when I ran across some profanity! I thought cozy mysteries were supposed to be free from profanity!?!? The really sad part was that the profanity added absolutely nothing to the storyline or character development!

Truly enjoyed it. Surprised by whodunit. Love the characters and appreciate the multitude of suspects. However, around Location 5600, there is an error so big that I cannot believe nobody else caught it. The gist of it is, “He led her to the back room where there were extra serving trays and BODIES piled up.” I felt a shock until i realized they were probably boxes.

Angie's at it again

Walt has started a scavenger hunt for a missing Monet painting. It has turned the island upside down. Then there's Angie's dead friend. Another good mystery to keep you guessing.

I love the cover. I like the setting - Nantucket - and the holiday theme. Unfortunately I did not warm to the characters or the plot. Maybe if I had read the first book i would have enjoyed this one more.

Another Nantucket Mystery

This is the second Angie Prouty mystery and a delightful addition! Action centers around visitors attempting to find a long-lost Monet painting that may or may not exist!

Uncovered Art..to be shared or not?

Delightful book of books and mystery. Angie has her work cut out for her, and not just the bookstore. Finding the culprit by quotes and artistry. Enjoy!

A book seller who solved mysteries.

A good read, well written. Lots of information on Nantucket Island. Great characters carried over from book one. A romance may be brewing, but which guy.?
