Over 50,000 copies sold! Tractor Mac is excited about the tractor pull competition at the fair. When big tractor Deke shows up, the contest really begins! Learn how Tractor Mac saves the day!
In April 1999, I introduced the first children’s book that I wrote and illustrated, Tractor Mac Arrives at the Farm. Originally published by Golden Books, Tractor Mac Arrives at the Farm tells the story of Sibley the work horse who feels slighted when a “shiny new tractor comes and takes over his chores.” Sibley and Mac overcome their differences and become “the best of friends.” Publisher’s Weekly called it a “bright, spirited read aloud” and after only five months the book was in its second printing.
I have continued on with several more enthralling and likeable Tractor Mac children’s books for boys and girls in the series. Children love the bright, detailed illustrations and absorbing stories, which have become “bedtime favorites.” Subsequent stories include Tractor Mac Learns to Fly followed by Tractor Mac You’re a Winner, Tractor Mac Builds a Barn, Tractor Mac Harvest Time, Tractor Mac Saves Christmas, Tractor Mac Parade’s Best, Tractor Mac Farmer’s Market and Tractor Mac Tune Up. The 10th title in the series, Tractor Mac Farm Days, is a board book developed for the littlest tractor fans and was released in the spring of 2012.
This was such a cute story! Spoiler Alert!: When Tractor Mac goes up against the bigger tractors you think, oh this is a story so of course he is going to win. But he doesn't! I was kind of shocked, but in a good way. Instead of winning at the tractor pull, he helps run a mere-go-round. This book taught that not winning isn't a bad thing, it may not feel good, but you're still a good person and can make a difference. I thought this was a great lesson to teach kids.
A new series to enjoy! We just came across these great books at the library (so might have got a few...). Love the drawings and the stories are really great. So far seem like good values and fun reads. 3yo and 1.5yo approved :)
Another five star book! This one has a really cute message as well as awesome illustrations (by Steers himself no less.) Tractor Mac wants to win the the pull contest at the local fair and he's all pumped up to win when he gets there and starts to feel a little nervous. Tractor Mac has a lot of support in the people, animals and other tractors around him so when he loses the contest to a tractor bigger and stronger than him, while sad and wanting to cry, he moves on. As Mac and the farmer are leaving they notice kids all around, sitting bored and sad, because of a broken carousel. Farmer Bill has an idea and Mac ends up being the winner anyway - in a different way than anyone had imagined.
Tractor Mac works hard on the farm, and he is sure he has a good chance of winning the tractor pull contest at the local fair. But despite his best efforts, the big old tractor, Deke,is able to pull a large load just a little bit further than the big red tractor. Mac feels terribly disappointed until Farmer Bill uses him to get the carousel up and running once again. Tractor Mac realizes that there's more than one way to become a winner since all the youngsters are thrilled with what he has done. Once again, this series delivers an important lesson in charming and forthright fashion. Many young readers will love the big eyes on this helpful tractor and wish they had a Tractor Mac of their very own.
I loved the story line in this story. It has a great moral that teaches children that winning the trophy is not the big accomplishment, but helping others is. I loved the tractor effect too. It shows also the things that children may face in their growing years of bullies and peer pressure. It really touched me that he was willing to help the children have fun on the merry-go-round. He took time out of his day and didn't complain about losing but put the needs of others before his.
Tractor Mac is a fantastic children's book. Not only are the illustrations adorable, but the story has an underlying message. Although Mac doesn't win the race he wanted to, he helps the event in a much different and special way. Through Mac's small trial he learns that everyone is a winner no matter what. This is a great book for kids.
Despite training hard for the tractor pull contest at the state fair, Tractor Mac loses to a bigger, stronger tractor. But he still finds a way to be a winner when he helps run the broken-down carousel so that the children at the fair can have fun. I really enjoyed this sweet story about having a strong heart but also finding a way to be a winner outside of competition.
This book is similar to books like "Thomas the Tank Engine". This is a good read aloud for students. Good for elementary students K-3. Tractor Mac tries to win a contest but finds that a true winner is someone that gives of themselves to make other happy.
I thought that this was a cute book. I really enjoyed the illustrations. I also liked how it pointed out that winning isn't everything, helping others when they are in need is.
