So many of my friends and family members, community members, even pets, are struggling with cancer. It's hard to know how to help and where to go for information that is suitable for the lay-reader. This book by Dr. Rosenberg is a great place to start. In bite-sized chapters that don't overwhelm, he provides clear, caring explanations about everything, from diagnosis to treatment options, coping with life changes, how to care for a loved one and what to say to those suffering. He also points out mistakes that patients often make, such as being afraid to ask for a second opinion or not asking for a copy of pathology reports. If you know someone who needs information in this area, buy the book. But read it yourself before handing it on. I purchased my copy from Dr. Rosenberg at a writers conference. He was using all profits at that time to place a free copy in all venues that support cancer patients. Well done, sir.
This is the most informative book I've read in a long time. Kudos to Dr. Stephen A. Rosenberg for a clear, easy-to-read, uncluttered book that the lay reader can understand. There is no embellishment, none of the fluff that fills bookshelves and elicits bored yawns in the reader. He cuts right to the point on each page of his well-organized book and hits points the reader really wants to ask and needs to know. I came away with a far better understanding of cancer(s) and the care and treatment available today. For some reason I also feel less anxiety and fear than I usually experience when researching this important subject. Thank you Dr. Rosenberg. Besides the obvious usefulness to persons interested in cancer, the book would serve well as a master class in clear, organized writing. I hope other scientific writers take note.
This is a great book on cancer and general information about its treatments and what to expect. Learning how cancer cells multiply, that they are different for each patient, and how the treatment destroy the cancer cells are some of the things you can take away from this book. Specific cancer treatment is not discussed here.
If you are newly diagnosed with cancer this is a good reference on the basics of diagnosis and treatment. If you are looking for technical info or specific to your type of cancer info, keep looking. Well written and easy to understand and navigate.
