Luke Jensen’s got an outlaw gang in his sights. Sharp-shooting Western adventure from the bestselling authors of the Preacher & MacCallister series. Johnstone Country. Frontier Spirit Lives Here.Luke Jensen comes from a righteous brood. Survival is in his blood. And he’s burned enough gunpowder to forge out his own legend on the frontier as the toughest bounty hunter who ever stalked his prey . . . THE HUNTING PARTY When Luke Jensen traps fugitive Ben Craddock in Arapaho Springs, he’s ready to collect on his bounty. But the job’s not done—not by a long shot. A raid by a savage gang known as the Legion of Fire has left the peaceful settlement looted, burned to the ground, and the ashes scoured for female hostages—including the marshal’s daughter. For Luke this is more than a hunt. It’s now a rescue. And with Craddock busted out of jail and thrown in with the gang, it’s also revenge. Wrangling a small posse, Luke heads for the Legion’s hideout in the Kansas badlands. Outnumbered, they can’t risk an ambush. Instead, it’s going to take cutthroat cunning for the outlaws of the Legion of Fire to go down in flames—one by one. Praise for the novels of William W. Johnstone “[A] rousing, two-fisted saga of the growing American frontier.”—Publishers Weekly on Eyes of Eagles “There’s plenty of gunplay and fast-paced action as this old-time hero proves again that a steady eye and quick reflexes are the keys to survival on the Western frontier.”—Curled Up with a Good Book on Dead Before Sundown

Legion of Fire by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone is a western with bounty hunter Luke Jensen as the main character and yes he is related to Smoke Jensen, they are brothers. Lukes hunt for fugitives takes him all over the country and he almost allways finds himself in a situation where he feels that he has to help out. This time he winds up in a small town ravaged by bandits and several women are taken hostage. He with a small posse sets out to hunt them down and rescue the women. This is a traditional western with good guys and bad guys.
Legion of Fire is William W Johnstone's sixth book from his Luke Jensen: Bounty Hunter series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more from the series. 4 1/2 stars.
Sadly, whoever took over the writing after the passing of the original author. The tendency to over describe the scene continues throughout this book, to the point that I could not bear to read beyond the 4th or 5th chapter.
Luke has a prisoner escape from the jail where he was temporarily held. This leads to Luke not only going after him with some of the locals. The escaped prisoner takes one of the local ladies with him, who turns out to be the daughter of the local lawman. The escapee hooks up with the gang, who just robbed and burned the town, though this was a freak accident. The posse suffers a major setback the first time they run into any of the gang, leaving just three people to go after the 25 gang members they are after.
This adventure has all of the regular twists and turns, and there are also a surprise or two included.
A huge outlaw band, noted for their cruelty and ability to avoid justice, devastate a town and kidnap women.
Known for fast raids, torching towns, and escape into the wilderness before law enforcement can begin to pursue them, the Legion strikes one last small town for cash, supplies, and women before heading to their winter quarters in the trackless badlands. The Bounty Hunter and a few brave men set out on their trail and the running fight becomes intense. Excellent characters, page-turning action, plenty of twists, and well worth the time.
This is the sixth of the Luke Jensen saga I’ve read and I think I’m about done with westerns for now. Maybe I’ll read some more sci-fi, which come to think of it is pretty much like a western: good guys, bad guys/aliens, guns, a rag-tag ship with a rag-tag crew trying to do the right thing. Maybe all stories are just westerns in disguise.
I enjoyed the book, the characters were well-developed, the bad guys were the worst of bad guys. The plug in the pace of the story I thought were well done and would recommend this book is a good read
When Luke Jensen rides into town, he gets his man and a whole lot more. A gang called Legion of Fire rides in and lives up to its name killing, burning and kidnapping women. This gives Luke's prisoner the opportunity to escape, and takes the sheriff's daughter with him.
I really enjoyed this excellent story, I recommend this to all western story readers. This author really has a great way with western stories, keep em coming!
Had a hard time getting into this book and it was a struggle to finish it, I hoped it would get better the farther I got into the story, but it just didn't happen, I wouldn't recommend reading it.
It's hard to keep coming up with new superlatives for Johnstone books but I'll try. I always enjoy the characters and their connections to the families in other Johnstone books! The back history adds depth to the characters but the stories stand alone. Great westerns are easy to find if the authors last name is Johnstone!
