Above the sand is a bed of blue calcareous clay with ?akes of peaty matter, then a bed of unfossiliferous sand, followed by a thick bed of distinctly jointed brownish clay, making red brick, probably corresponding to the Erie clay described in the Geological Survey Report for 1868.
