Everyone has a special ability in Devi Omega. Everyone except Hero Leander, the official troublemaker of Class 1B. But his life gets even worse when he is partnered with Annie Mei Fields on a history project. Not only is she a straight-A student and the top Charisma-user of the school, but she is determined to make him do his part of the work.

As they hit the books, though, they soon discover that an evil corporation is kidnapping teens in order to cure a deadly disease. Hero thinks the two shouldn’t get involved. That is until his only friend is also taken.

Hero and Annie Mei put their lives on the line in order to save their world. But with gang attacks, drug deals, twisted corporate goons, and a teacher that won’t get off their case, these two unlikely fighters have little time to think about their next step. Can they save the world and still get a passing grade?

I'm really glad I waited a few days to dive into the ending of this story because it was well worth the wait.

Very fun story! Hero really jumps off the page and makes his presence known despite if people want him to or not. LOL! He's such a lively troublemaker and having him paired up with someone who is the complete opposite of a troublemaker, Annie Mei, creates dynamite-like explosions on the page numerous times. LOL!

I was totally there for it and really enjoyed them as well as Reut! He was an equally awesome character and could share multiple things about him but will refrain because they lead into some really good spoilers. Hero however should be *extremely* thankful to have him as a best friend! LOL!

I greatly enjoyed the high school setting and the "magic system." The SA reminded me a lot of the quirks in My Hero Academia, which was AWESOME. Though this is very much a unique, stand-on-its-own story, but nonetheless it made me happy about the similar MHA vibes it gave off.

I do wish the ending was a little more in-depth as it did feel slightly rushed. There is some language and one crude remark, but it was handled extremely well. I was actually impressed by the way it was addressed and thought the author did a really good job with that. She also tackles some tough topics that surprised me, but was woven into the story in a realistic way that felt natural (but left me very sad on occasion due to what some of these characters go through and/or experience). I would give it a PG-13 rating because of these and would say it's an edgy clean kind of story.

If you're a fan of light novels, MHA, and anime in general, I highly recommend Loading Life! I really enjoyed it!

The premise of a preternatural, video game-esque narrative is one that isn't always done too well. However, in Loading Life, real world and video games mesh together excellently.

Hero, the downtrodden, troublemaking main character without a special ability, is paired with Annie Mei, top student, for a project that will allow him to pass a class in school. From there his life gets weirder and more malicious, while he himself grows as a person.

Now, usually when the main character is a delinquent, or made out to be something of an uncontrollable statistic, they're inherently abusive in one way or another. In Loading Life, the author takes a different approach. Sure, Hero is a butthead, but he doesn't abuse his friends or Annie, especially. Not using her as a sounding board was a huge deal for me. Therefore, when Hero's character development came, he learned he didn't need to be scared and run away. He learned he could ask for help. He wasn't given up on and tossed aside like so many wanted to do. He was still a butthead, but it turned into friendly banter. Character development was huge in this novel for almost every character, even the minor ones, like the guys in the gang. The reader also go to know the characters well without a clogging info dump.

The writing style was well-suited as well. It was light and serious where it needed to be. Gritty in places without being over the top. As for the world building: HUDs, mana bars, health bars, and things of the Life were as well-integrated as magic would be in a fantasy setting.

All-in-all, a rounded novel. It's easy to get sucked in. While the storyline isn't necessarily original, the storytelling is refreshing and everything wraps up nice and neat at the end.

4.5 STARS. I NEED more books like this! Why aren’t there more Anime/YA/Awesomeness books out there?

But anyway, I’ve never written a review before so that should tell you a little about how much I REALLY enjoyed this book!

Having been in a reading funk, this was one of those light-hearted fun books I needed. There were just so many things I loved about it! Both main characters were awesome! Neither came across as flat or one-dimensional. They were both SO GOOD. (The Princess nickname was adorable)

Have I said I loved this book already? Because I did. Yes, I love anime-esque vibe and action, but even more, something about the WAY this was written was just so captivating! I’m very impressed with the way this author manages to write everything so awesomely. The author has definitely done her work when it came to the writing of this book! Personally, this book has become a little bit of a role model for me and my own writing!

I will add that there was a bit of language used, mostly just from one character’s perspective. Though I do understand that this isn’t easy to avoid, especially when you have a troublemaker character like Hero.

But yes, amazing job and I wish more people would read this fun book!!!

Amazing. The adventure I went on with Hero, Reut, and Annie was incredible. I was gripping the book screaming at the pages for them to stop arguing and do something. Each page I turned had me fearing the worst yet hoping for Hero to rise up and be a hero.

Speaking on behalf of EN Chaffin, this is the first book of hers that I have read, and I believe the first full novel she has published. It is incredible the talent she has and the overwhelmingly great book she was able to publish on her own without fancy editors or publishers. I'm excited to read what she has in store for the world next.
