A magnificent full color book on the life and times of the Roman Legions, illustrated with over 35 pieces of original color artwork and more than 100 color photographs of equipment, weapons, and reenactments.
The book includes historical timelines and detailed data tables on everything from the cost of living during the second century to pay scales in the Roman army, as well as superb graphics depicting legion deployment and formation during battle.
The detail in this book will be of enormous interest to the growing community of reenactors in the USA, depicting images from two famous European reenactment groups, Britain's 'Ermine Street Guard' and 'Gemini Project Reenactment Group' from the Netherlands. The reenactor photographs enable the reader to see items of Legionary equipment up close and in detail.
Chapters include information on Roman legion's hierarchy structure, the legions and their men, the legions and their equipment and further chapters on strategy and tactics. A bonus is a sidebar feature depicting a fictionalized account of the life of a legionary in battle.
Lo que nos cuenta. Aproximación a la legión romana del siglo I repasando tanto cuestiones puramente logísticas y operativas como otras más administrativas, política e incluso crematísticas de la estructura de combate más común en la Antigua Roma.

This was a surprise little gem which I really enjoyed. The book is filled with tremendous details of the attire, armor, and army life for the common Roman military man. The plates, pictures, and photos of re-enactors were very useful and a real aid for those of you who might paint miniatures, which I do.
My only knock on the book is minor, which is the accuracy of said re-enactors. While they are a serious lot, they don't always get things right. There is a great deal of debate over the uniforms of the Optio for example, and the latest research tends to support a significantly different set of dress as compared to the pictures in the book. The author is also heavily invested in the re-enactment field, and may not be the highest pedigree for using as a source. This is not a slight, as the work here is excellent and well worth reading. I am simply being clear he is not a major university historian. There are few references provided as well, a personal "no-no" for me.
Overall, the book was very good and a real pleasure to read. The visual stimulation was perfect for miniature painting and the information contained useful and mostly accurate. This book earned an honest 4 Stars and will get heavy use in my library for sure.
Great book for one interested in ancient warfare and Roman Legions in particular. I especially liked the many photos and illustrations that helped one understand and visually see armor and weapons.
