A compact yet comprehensive guide, the Harbrace College Handbook, Thirteenth Edition offers practical, well-organized, and easily accessible advice for writers. Specific examples throughout the book demonstrate the principles of writing that are applicable to both course work and professional tasks, and frequent cross-references establish how these principles inform each other.
I live by this book. It got me through my high school weekend essays, was essential as I wrote my senior thesis, and was at my side during my little experiment as an English teacher. With clear, definitive answers about everything from citing an unpublished journal as a resource in a paper to finally understanding the who/whom debate. If you get only one grammar resource, let this be it.
This was my college freshman English class book. The professor enjoyed extremely long test. I was so nervous I was going to fail the final that I read the book cover to cover about three times. I have a new copy on my desk now, and I look at it always for answers. A wonderful book to have around.
