A colorized reprint of the first 3 re-worked issues of the Aria Press A Distant Soil comics.
Colleen Doran started her Ovanan Saga at a very young age but in 1984 she joined Wendy & Richard Pini at their WaRP Graphics line (published by Starblaze/Donning books) and released a 9-comic series introducing the crew that would morph into the characters as seen in this TPB.
In 1991 Colleen, with her mother's help, started a self-publishing line of the re-worked A Distant Soil under her own line of Aria Press. With issue #16 Image picked up the title.
Immigrant Song sets the scene for the story to come with Jason & Liana escaping and getting separated.

This is a childhood favorite of mine (although many parents would not want their children reading it, haha). Luckily my household was liberal enough to let it get into my hands. I love these characters- especially D'mer. I would recommend this to anyone who is up for a sci-fi space opera type thing. I just wish Doran would finish the series because I have been wanting to know what happens for many years. At this point, I wouldn't even care if it wasen't illustrated at all....I would read it all in written form. No pictures needed. None the less, what has been done with this story has been a fun ride for me
billed as a compilation from the original ADS it is NOT - it's a total (the first of a few now) re-working. New art, new script, no WaRP credit (we know that backstory!) ... and in COLOR!!!
The gathering of the core of the two resistance groups - on Earth Rieken and D'Mer gather Liana Scott, Tony Manetti and Brent Donewitz while on the Siovansin Sere does what is expected of her so Dai prepares to "rescue" Jason Scott.
This first of 2 Starblaze graphic novels is exactly just the first half of the Gathering...

For being a bnw work of the ‘80s, ADS is a great work. Doran’s drawing are beautiful and delicate. The story is not complicated at all, but the addiction of new characters and the development of the story itself made this collection incomplete, thus the 4 stars.
