Tess Lucas had carefully planned every detailof her life, determined to create the happinessshe'd craved since childhood. But a brokenengagement led to a one-night stand with herbest friend—and a baby!
Wealthy playboy Craig Richmond never plannedto be a husband or a father—until Tess told himshe was pregnant. He knew marriage was thebest way to guarantee their baby had a real family—and to finally realize his long-hiddenfeelings for his oldest friend. But Tess refused tosettle for a marriage of convenience—she wantedthe fairy tale. And to win her heart, Craig wouldhave to prove he was the one man who couldgive her everything she'd ever wanted.…
According to her mother, she fell in love with books even before she could read and was always content when she had a book in her hands. It didn’t surprise anyone when she decided that she wanted to be a writer, but she was encouraged to pursue “a real job” first.
So she did—she became a lawyer. Two years of practicing law taught her a lot about the world—and reinforced her determination to become a writer. Because in fiction, she could promise a happy ending!
Thankfully, she had already met and married a wonderful man to inspire her fictional heroes. And when she was on maternity leave after the birth of their first son, he encouraged her to take a romance writing course at the local community college. It was while enrolled in this class that she completed her first (still unpublished) manuscript.
Three more manuscripts and another baby followed. And then, in June 2002, she finally got the call from Susan Litman—an editorial assistant and contest judge—offering to buy the manuscript she’d submitted to RWA’s Golden Heart® contest as “From This Moment.” This story was re-titled McIver’s Mission and released by Silhouette Intimate Moments in May 2003.
A fairly standard Mills and Boon book with the usual plotline of unexpected pregnancy and unrealised love, which I perhaps enjoyed more than usual due to it's realistic portrayal of the pregnancy and the author avoiding the trap of having the evil ex-girlfriend manage to single handedly destroy the relationship. A nice easy read.

Yet another tale of Man Has to Pressure Woman Into a Relationship. I don't care for stories where the fMC is on a HEALING PATH after having her heart broken and is then worn down into a tumultuous situation, just so the mMC gets what he wants.
Ultimately the last act saved this story for me, but I probably won't read it again. 3 ⭐ simply because I needed to know that the fMC lives at the end.

I loved ❤ this book's storyline. I loved ❤ Tess's character. I felt sorry for Tess. I loved ❤ Craig's character. I loved ❤ the ending. Awesome job Ms. Harlen.
This book was...pleasant. It didn't wow me but I liked it. I thought the back and forth with the decision to get married took longer than it should have. They don't actually get married until halfway through the book and the decision to marry seemed very abrupt after Tess constantly fighting it. It felt like the publisher told the author to get a move on already. The second half dragged with Tess's constant inner monologues of how she couldn't let Craig know she had fallen in love with him and his inner monologues of instance that he didn't love her, could never feel love because mommy abandoned him. Then came the predictable she goes into life-threatening early labour and that's when Craig 'realizes' (more like admits to himself) that he does love her. I loved Craig and Tess's interactions with each other but the story just wasn't strong enough for me.
