Highland Adventure #9

Highlander Entangled

Rate this book
Lady Kristina MacQueen suffered devastating injuries at the hands of a ruthless Highland chief, Blackburn MacCromar. Two years later, he kidnaps her for a journey across the chilly, windblown Scottish Highlands to flush out her sister, Anna—the woman Blackburn forced to wed him. Red Holme, Blackburn's second-in-command, is equally brutal and determined to possess Kristina.

A Highland warrior and future chief, Colin Cameron has no intention of becoming entangled in the whims of another highborn lady. However, upon witnessing Lady Kristina being held hostage by the enemy, a knife to her throat, he resolves to rescue her and bring her to safety. When Red Holme sees Colin Cameron, he recognizes his enemy from a decade earlier and craves revenge even more than he lusts for the lady. But he is determined to have both.

Colin is the most charismatic and heroic man Kristina has ever met, and he awakens her woman's instincts. He might be her only chance to experience a brief moment of passion. Even so, she holds no illusions about marriage, for no worthy man will find her blindness and scars appealing, or see them as beneficial traits in a wife. But she can't see how he looks at her. Though Colin has sworn to never fall in love again, he cannot defend his heart against the strong, spirited and lovely lass who is like none other he has ever met.

This is one of the best books I have read this year. Excitement from beginning to end, OMG, the evil men. She made them so well, you really did hate them. I was unable to keep myself from reading it. When I would put the book down, I had to remember that I was not in the 17th century. It made me feel like I was in the middle of everything. The roller coaster of emotions you feel as you read this book is amazing.
Kristina was amazing and strong, and with her disability she was even stronger. I loved every bit of her character. She was treated horribly but still was able to stand tall and give as much as she got.
Colin is the kind of man you always want, kind and loving, strong and demanding. You will love him, from the time you meet him till the end.

It has been a while since I have picked up this series. I have finally caught up with my ARC assignments! I was needing a little change of pace and a steamy Highland romance always does the trick. Highlander Entangled by Vonda Sinclair is the 9th book in the Highland Adventure series. This book follows the romance between Colin and Kristina, which means readers are taken back to the events of book 8, Highlander Unbroken. Blackburn MacCromer has taken Lady Kristina hostage to convince her sister, Lady Anna to come back to him. Anna has been safely guarded by Neacal but has asked his foster brother, Colin, for help. Colin rescues Kristina and is angered by the abuses she has endured. Her injuries have left her blind and scarred. Their time together brings them close together and Colin strived to show Kristina that she is beautiful and worthy of his love. Behind the scenes, a new villain rises threatening to keep their fragile love apart.

Trigger warnings: attempt rape, abuse, pregnancy loss, blindness by injury, PTSD

This book is all about the characters. The plot could have used a little revamp. Poor Kristina was kidnapped one too many times and it got repetitive. But the characters are captivating! Kristina is blind because of the abuse she endured and left scarred. Her experiences have made her courageous but she does struggle with PTSD and self-confidence. She decides that her disability limits her and makes her unworthy of being a laird’s wife. Colin sees her worth and he acknowledges her blindness but does not think that it limits her at all. I loved seeing her realize her worth and her importance.

SPOILER ALERT:

I only wish that her sight didn’t keep coming and going. It did not feel realistic. I understand it was supposed to be a miracle so she would be a confident laird’s wife. But I wanted her to maintain that confidence and accept and love herself.

Overall, the pace is fast and readers will not want to put it down! I rate it 3 out of 5 stars.

Awesome!

Another heart pounding story from beginning to end. Romantic, intriguing, suspensive, with Hugh octane adventure, a disability which makes a truly strong heroine and the strong, brawn, handsome highlander who is drawn to her strength, compassion and resilience to life.
Another hit for Vonda Sinclair!

Highlander Entangled: A Scottish Historical Romance. Highland Adventure Book 9
By Vonda Sinclair

A sweet, romantic, meaningful story.
Author Vonda Sinclair writes a beautiful and touching story featuring Kristina and Collin. Lady Kristina is a strong, determined, bright and optimistic heroine. Despite suffering horrendous injuries, she faces her challenges with a brave heart and strong spirit.
When heir to chiefdom Collin Cameron meets Lady Kristina, his heart and soul are touched with profound admiration and love. Determined to make her his wife, he must prove to Kristina she’s beautiful inside and out, and fully capable of being a wife in-spite of her injuries.
Collin is a kind, sweet, handsome and protective hero in this story. He is the kind of man every woman wants in their life. Loved him.
A well written, incredibly suspenseful, romantic and passionate story. I loved these characters and did not want this story to end. Do not pass this book by. Vonda Sinclair is an extremely gifted writer, providing outstanding descriptive details of the stunning Scottish Highlands. A wonderful historical romance and a must read.

What a wonderful story! Vonda Sinclair knows how to draw you in with her descriptions of the characters and the surroundings and make you feel like you are there! I felt like I could visualize the story as it unfolded and feel the emotions. One of my favorite tropes is the emotionally or physically scarred hero or heroine so that they in the end find happiness. Lady Kristina has suffered tragically by the hand of a Highland Chief, Blackburn, who had mistreated her sister and left Kristina blind from a blow to the head. As her sister escaped him, Blackburn uses Kristina again to lure her sister out to him. Rescued by Colin Cameron, a braw warrior and future chief, Colin is indeed a hero to fall in love with...He is so kind and has deep feelings for being such a strong man. What follows is a whirlwind of suspense, romance and brutal forces that drive Colin and Kristina to extreme lengths to try to stay alive. Kristina is such a strong, amazing and caring person despite her disability. This book is part of a series that I have not read but the story can be read as a standalone. But I intend to go back and read every one and put Vonda Sinclair on my favorite author list! I am looking forward to the next books in the series with some of the secondary characters that hopefully will appear!! Well done and an amazing powerful tale!

I enjoy books set in Scotland but don’t seem to read as many as I plan to. Sinclair is a new to me author. I’ve come across her books before but somehow they never made it to the top of my list. After reading the ninth book in the Highland Adventure Series, Highlander Entangled, I hope to rectify that soon.

Highlander Entangled, set in Scotland in the early 1600’s, drew me in immediately even though it’s the ninth book in the series but the first one I’ve read. The first chapter set the stage in giving background information of what was to come in the story that takes place two years later. The clans were a little confusing but then I managed to sort them out and the story flowed smoothly from then on. There was a depth to the characters due to the lives they’ve led. This is Kristina and Colin’s story but it is so much more. Her sister, Anna, along with her husband, Neacal, are woven throughout, and we learn about their love but the horrors they’ve both endured before being there for one another. Similar to what it seems Kristina and Colin must go through in order to be together but different since Kristina is blind and also has scars on one side of her face. Watching the chemistry between Kristina and Colin when neither is looking for a partner or love was heartfelt and heartwarming. When they doubted themselves or the other’s feelings it was heart-wrenching and so, so sad.

The clansmen involved would all go to their death protecting their chief or laird and unfortunately, some do. There are beautiful descriptions of the lands and the castles. The battles that ensue are vivid and made me feel that I was there. The ruthlessness of Blackburn and Holme, his second-in-command, was incomprehensible and their focused hatred of the clans and others was definitely one track and colored every one of their actions. There were twists and turns to the story and every detail played a role. There was nice closure and a happily ever after and the epilogue was a nice touch but left me wanting more. There were enough loose ends and hints to take us to the next stories. I, for one, can’t wait.

This story was okay. Mostly average. The heroine gets kidnapped three times, for me that was a little much.
I did enjoy the heroine being blind. It brought a lot of interesting elements to the story. She was a surprisingly strong and independent character. I expected that her disability would cause her to be a weak, simpering heroine (as is often the case in HisRom) but it did not. She fought for herself and never gave up. I did enjoy her character.
The hero was a total dream boat. He kept on rescuing her over and over. He was so sweet and protective, and everything lovely.

Lady Kristina MacQueen suffered devastating injuries that left her blind and her face scarred at the hands of ruthless Highland chief, Blackburn MacCromar. She knows she’s scarred for life, she knows no worthy man will find her blindness and scars appealing.
Now two years later Blackburn MacCromar kidnapped her to lure her sister out of hiding. Red Holme is Blackburn's second-in-command, is equally brutal and determined to possess Kristina at all costs. Colin Cameron, future chief witnesses Lady Kristina being held hostage by Blackburn MacCromar, a knife to her throat and he resolves to rescue her and bring her to safety. During the rescue attempt Red Holmes recognizes his enemy from a decade earlier and craves revenge against Colin. Red lusts for the lady, but he is determined to have both his revenge and Lady Kristina.
Colin and Kristina have an instant connection as they go through a roller coaster ride of emotions. She feels secure and comforted by his big strong arms, she hears the caring and protectiveness in his voice, but she knows her blindness and scars are not appealing, especially as a wife of a Highland Chieftain.
Colin admires her courage and strong spirit to survive what she has been through. Colin has sworn to never fall in love again, but he can’t defend his heart against the strong, spirited Kristina who’s unlike anyone he’s ever met. Come along on a journey filled with intrigue, passion and a love of a lifetime.

This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

What an amazing book! This was one heart wrenching story full of emotional angst, one breathless adventure full of intrigue and white knuckle suspense.
Kristina has suffered greatly at Blackburn’s hands, he forces her sister to marry him at knife point.....After threatening her and slashing her face he knocks her out which results in her blindness.

Two years in hiding, he’s come for her to use her as a pawn to get her sister.
But Blackburn isn’t the only threat to her the evil Red Holme who’s shown an unnatural fixation to her.
Throughout her journey Kristina has one young man to offer her protection from Holme, Ralston who happens to be more to her then he lets on.

Colin Cameron is one of the warriors who helps rescue Kristina and best friend to Neacal the man who became Anna’s husband. He feels a connection to Kristina and although she can’t see him she feels drawn to him as well. Blackburn is killed but another villain -Holme-is after Kristina and is out for revenge at Collin Cameron..

Kristina and Collin have some hurdles to get over, she feels not worthy of becoming the wife of a chief and Laird, after all she’s blind and disfigured.
He feels that he can’t go through another rejection and have his heart exposed and vulnerable. It’s amazing how their feelings were the same for each other but they didn’t trust in their love. Vonda Sinclair has done a spectacular job in portraying the feelings and emotions that Kristina is going through as a blind woman. The emotions are palpable, the action well portrayed and believable. If one word could sum up this book it would be PHENOMENAL!
I highly recommend all of Vonda Sinclair’s books you are in for a treat.

I was gifted a complimentary copy, and this is my unbiased opinion.

As always, Vonda Sinclair takes readers on another sweeping highland adventure!

Highlander Entangled is the story of Lady Kristina MacQueen and Colin Cameron. Both our Hero and Heroine have suffered greatly before we meet them. Kristina has been scarred and blinded by the ruthless Blackburn MacCromar, while Colin has suffered the sting of a lady's rejection.
When Kristina is kidnapped by MacCromar as a ploy to bribe her sister to rejoin him, only the worst can happen... Until a hero comes to her rescue. Colin is instantly enchanted by the maiden fair and saves her from a fate worse than death at the hands of MacCromar's right hand man.

This story is an on the edge of your seat adventure! It's the perfect continuation to Ms. Sinclair's previous release, "Highlander Unbroken" but can also be a fantastic standalone novel! Bravo!

I was gifted a copy of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion!

Though each book can be read separately, I seriously recommend reading them in the right order, to get the full effect of how amazing each book really is. I read this book before any of the others, and though I thought it was a great book and solid read, I was never able to fully appreciate how compelling of a story it actually is. Now that I have read each book in the series in order, and reread this one, I have edited my original review to add a few things. There was a lot of action and excitement, and lots of emotions in this book.  It was predictable in some places and in others, completely unpredictable. I love the writing and it kept my attention from beginning to end. I love that this book introduces a heroine with a disability, it really adds to the story. I wish Kristina would have been a bit more independent, I like to see a stronger heroine but she was an extremely easy character to like.  Colin, the hero in this book is totally swoon worthy and was perfect for Kristina.  There is something that happens and without giving anything away, what Kristina and Anna discover about Ralston is a touching and wonderful addition to an already great story. Well worth the read!

Another great read from Vonda Sinclair! There are many dark moments in this story, but it makes Kristina's and Colin's journey toward each other so much more fulfilling. There were times I had tears but these made the smiles bigger. I enjoyed this story greatly and highly recommend it.

I was gifted a copy of this book. Lady Kristina MacQueen is rendered blind and scarred when an evil Highland chief named Blackburn attacks her. Two years later the blackguard kidnaps her in order to bait Kristina’s sister Anna, who was forced to wed Blackburn. When Lady Kristina is held at dagger point, the handsome future chief of the Cameron clan Colin Cameron moves to rescue her.
Sinclair does a masterful job of telling this story from each characters point of view. Since Kristina is blind, Sinclair gives details of scents and sounds and textures. “His arms, holding her securely, felt iron-hard and strong. When she turned her face toward him, his pleasant, masculine scent took over, far more appealing than the scent of pine needles. He smelled of some sort of spicy masculine soap.”
I enjoyed Highlander Entangled. This was my first book to read by Vonda Sinclair. I definitely want to read the Highland Adventure Series now. Highly recommend.

Highlander Entangled by Vonda Sinclair is a wonderful and emotional book, a real tear jerker! I truly loved every minute of this book and there was never a dull moment. Vonda’s writing was so descriptive that everything I read came alive, from the character, the land scape and the castles. This book has heroes, blindness, battles, heartbreak, distrust, pure evil, surprises, sadness, compassion, revenge, kidnappings, bravery, beatings and of course love. I highly recommend this book. Travel back to 1617 Scottish Highlands with Colin Cameron and Kristina MacQueen on a journey of survival.

The book has battles, suspense, and romance in a complex story of tragedy when Kristina is mistreated by the hated Blackburn MacCromar forces her sister, Anna, to marry him. Red Holmes is Blackburn's right hand man and he wants Kristina for his pleasure, but they need her in well health at least until they get her sister from the castle she ran too when she escaped Blackburn.

Colin Cameron was an honorable man and when he hears the torture Kristina has met at the hands of Blackburn, he vows to kill him.

This is a don't miss novel!!

💋💋
I do love this series , all of them joined in one way or another , a new book release is like visiting family, or old friends.
Colin and Christina , are the stars in this book , both fighting to keep their love, under very strenuous circumstances ,but Red Holme has other ideas .
Vonda's gift for description is used to the max in this story as Christina is blind , an audio would be brilliant, you can close your eyes and imagine her trauma , but also her joy as her hands cover Colin’s face in order to see him ,Something she will never be able to do normally.
A great story and addition to this wonderful series

•••••••••

REVIEW: 4.5 stars-HIGHLANDER ENTANGLED is the ninth instalment in Vonda Sinclair’s adult, historical HIGHLAND ADVENTURE series. This is Lady Kristina MacQueen, and Highland warrior Colin Cameron’s story line. HIGHLANDER ENTANGLED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Some of the events of Highlander Entangled run parallel and crossover with the events of book eight Highlander Unbroken.

NOTE: HIGHLANDER ENTANGLED contains scenes of graphic violence against our story line heroine that may not be suitable for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Kristina and Colin) HIGHLANDER ENTANGLED follows Kristina MacQueen as she is in the fight of her life. Kidnapped, a second time, by the man who claimed ownership of her sister Anna (Highlander Unbroken), Kristina now physically scarred and blind, finds herself targeted one too many times by men seeking revenge for perceived betrayal. Frightened and on the verge of giving up Kristina will come face to face with her future, and her past. Enter Colin Cameron, the future Chief of Clan Cameron, and the man with whom Kristina will fall in love. What ensues is a cross-country journey as Kristina becomes a pawn in a game of retribution, power and loss; and the potential fall out as Kristina is unable to accept that love truly does conquer all.

Kristina MacQueen believes herself damaged goods. Two years earlier, Kristina and her sister Anna were kidnapped, by a man who sought Anna for his wife. Blinded and scarred by the man in question, Kristina believes herself unworthy of love or a happily ever after, and refuses to be a burden to anyone including the man that she loves. Colin Cameron knows rejection first hand but feeling the sting of a second rejected proposal forces Cameron to walk away before further allowing his heart to be destroyed. The murder of his father places Cameron in the position of Clan Chief, a position he hoped would include Kristina by his side.

The relationship between Colin and Kristina is one of immediate attraction but our heroine is unable to accept that her scars and her inability to see are not a detriment to her own happily ever after. Colin begins a slow seduction of our story line heroine, a woman who suspects there is only the here and now. Kristina’s pain and suffering is heart breaking; her self-worth now centers on her inability to see, and the physical scars that she believes have left her without a chance at love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Anna and Neacal (Highlander Unbroken 8), Maili MacDonald (My Captive Highlander #7) as well as the several warriors and clansmen, and the introduction of a new family member no one knew existed. The requisite evil has several faces, some more familiar to our story line hero.

HIGHLANDER ENTANGLED is an action packed story of intrigue and danger; of vengeance, betrayal, courage and hope. The premise is romantic, heart breaking and engaging; the romance is captivating and sensual; the characters are spirited, passionate and survivors. HIGHLANDER ENTANGLED is a thrilling ride and memorable adventure.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:

From the first paragraph author Sinclair and narrator Dave Gillies took me on a fast-paced story of injustice and the cruelty of a man’s desire for power and revenge. But it was so much more than that. Guilt runs rampant when Colin kicks himself for not anticipating future events. It’s also about learning to love oneself with all ones imperfections and know that another can, too. And the ultimate takeaway—love– the most important emotion and should not be ignored!

Two sisters, Kristine and Suzanne MacQueen, have been dealt cruelly by Blackburn MacCromar, a man so vicious with his treatment of these two women, he is very easy to hate. His viciousness leaves Lady Kristina blind. In this story he uses her as a tool to get Anna, Kristina’s sister back into his clutches. But Blackburn has his hands full when it comes to Colin Cameron.

Colin is best friends to laird Neacal McDonald who has fallen in love with Anna. Anna’s love to her sister has the laird ready to save Kristina and protect the woman he loves. Emotions run high, Colin is smitten with Kristina, even though she has a scar running down her cheek and blind. As a reader, I felt the over powering need of this Highlander in love. His need to protect. He came to worship the ground she walked on. But all comes crashing down!

Kristina also falls for Colin, but knows she’s not good enough for him, the first son of a laird. She’s imperfect. Then there is Colin’s clan, will they accept her?

Evil lurks led by Blackburn, a man filled with the hatred of revenge –Red Holme. He’s a danger to Kristina because he’s always wanted to bed the wench. (his words, not mine) But it seems he’s also a danger to Colin and his clan.

Sinclair knows how to ratchet up a good story, difficulties on an emotional level and danger on the physical kept me listening. In fact, it was so good, I listened to it twice.

Narrator Gillies is such a pleasure to listen to. His impersonation of women’s voices is so feminine and life-like, I can see the women. The Highlander men are brawny with deep voices (big men) and sound of compassion. I love his impersonation of the men who are the villains in this story. I feel the evil oozing off them like slime!

If you’re a fan of Highland stories, as I am, you’ll surely enjoy listening to this series.

This is a good Highlander romance, and a good addition to the series. It gets 4 stars from me.

Colin and Katrina were both likable, and were good together. She had suffered a great deal, and I liked that her blindness and scars didn't bother him. He was so good to her, and tried very hard to convince her that she was still beautiful.

I really liked that Colin immediately wanted to help Katrina as soon as he heard her story. He risked his own life to rescue her.

It did bother me that the bad guy in this story was just so thoroughly evil. He had absolutely no redeeming qualities at all -- he was just awful.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

From the moment you start this book, the adventure begins! Caught in a dastardly plot by her sister Anna's 'husband', Lady Kristina MaQueen is rescued by Colin Cameron, the future chief of his clan.
Heroic, handsome and honourable, Colin is not looking for love, but he is quickly captivated by the beautiful and petite Kristina, especially when he discovers her tragic tale of suffering.
As their attraction and passion grows, so do fears, insecurities and doubts, which are clouding their happiness together. Plots abound, wonderful characters, emotional conversations, this romantic adventure has it all.
Vonda is a magical wordsmith creating a vivid atmosphere which conjures up the era accurately. I love her writing, you feel ensconced in the action, the passion and romance of this wonderful tale.

A young woman is taken captive and used as leverage to force her sister to marry a rogue Scotsman. Kidnapped and beaten till she becomes blind, she has no hope for a future as a wife and mother. But the son of a neighboring Clan Chief makes it his vow to protect her with his life. At times very brutal, you find yourself anticipating events not going as originally planned, but it eventually it ends HEA.

Kristina, blinded for 2 years, Abused by Blackburn and Holmes. She seemed to accept her blindness, but when she gets her vision back. She was so happy and now, again she was abcuted and been knocked out. Blinded twice again , this time she complained. I was upset with her complains. I'm just glad Kristina finally accept the marriage.
