Fated Alpha #2

Elizabeth And The Call Of Dragons

Rate this book

A fresh beginning...
A new threat...

Elizabeth is finally safe, tucked away in the lair of her four dragon protectors. Now, she must learn to cope with the grief of losing her parents, her home, and the South-eastern White Tooth Pack, including a wolf her heart still yearns for.

Her four dragon protectors might keep their distance while she mourns, but they make it clear they desire her completely. Body, heart and soul. Despite her grief and the guilt clawing at her heart, Elizabeth’s feelings for the four men grow. She can see the future they are offering her. A fresh start... with them.

But a new challenge arises when the Shifter Authority forbids their relationship. The Authority claims wolves can’t mate with dragons, and certainly can’t conceive dragon babies.

Refusing to give Elizabeth up, each man is prepared to fight any battle to keep her and to prove that she’s their fated mate. They embark on a quest to find a legendary dragon. The dragon is rumoured to have defied the orders of the authority, mated with a wolf and sired dragon children. If Elizabeth and her men can find this elusive dragon and his family, they can prove that they are meant to be. That their union will bring about the birth of dragon children.

The journey is fraught with danger and Elizabeth must learn to trust her dragons. Her life depends on it.

That may not be the only thing that needs guarding around four passionate and possessive dragon-shifters though.

Elizabeth’s bruised and battered heart may be in the most danger of all…

Sadly, this book just didn't do it for me or the friend I buddy read it with.

I was super interested in the concept of this series when I first started reading the first book. I mean a wolf who mates with dragons and has little baby dragons! WHAT! That is super interesting and not anything I've read before. And it's a reverse harem. AND it was supposed to be smutty. Which tbh is the biggest reason I started reading it.

And the first book was super crazy. It threw you right into the action. It damn near started off with a smut scene and I just fell in love because I thought it was going to be a super smutty good ass series. And then I get to this book and I was just so bored. The random boob touches were boring. The passionate kisses. That's all there was.

And even though there was a lot happening in this book, I was just bored. Like bored out of my mind. I only finished the book because there was only like 30 pages left from when I decided to DNF this series.

So sadly, I will not be continuing this series because it just didn't give me what I wanted.

I feel like I am reading this book in mini sections. You get one chunk at a time but not a whole book. It is really annoying. If the author combined them and made one book, I think it could be a 3 or 4 star book. However, it would have to be more than what I have read so far in one book. Some authors don't understand how to do a proper cliffhanger. You don't just chop a book in half. You still need a beginning, a middle and end to each book. Unfortunately, this author hasn't learned that yet.

2.5

There are a lot of pacing problems, inconsistencies. It's hard to know the age of most everyone, yet there are lots of references to "it happened a long time ago." Yet, it seems the people saying that are in their early twenties. Which means the things/events that are revealed couldn't have happened all that long ago for some in their early twenties.

The h likes to use the word "whore" for women especially if she feels threatened by the other women. The h comes across as insecure and annoying. I found her tiresome and vexing.

The h has legit problems and yet most of the book is about her getting with the 4 dragon shifters.

Improved over the first

This second book was enough to make me want to read more. It’s a bit choppy and rushed, and I don’t care for the style of cliffhanger, but I’m interested enough to keep reading on.

The underlying plot is interesting but the relationships (or lack thereof) are wanting and full of superficial obstacles and professed feelings with no backing evidence. I know the term for a female dog is b*tch but it was used in a derogatory term here and when every fifth word is already wh*re, it is just way too much. I kinda want to know what happens, but not enough to keep reading the series.

I received this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the series and omg! This is the second book that I have read by this author and I keep getting blown away! I’m going to have to read her other work now.

This book is an amazing sequel, I can’t want to see where it goes in the next book. If it’s anything like the first two with Action, adventure and emotion then I know I’m in store for an amazing book.

Writing is fine but characterization began to show very thin in this mini installment, and the beginnings of the “whore” and evil witch character beginning to form, unpleasant and trite.

I do not like slut shaming. Calling your pretty pseudo rival a “stupid little whore” shoes sp much internalized misogny i caould not give this a higher rating. Bleck.

I read this book for a reading challenge and have to say this book was a mess. What little storyline I could find appeared to be all over the place and the main character just plain annoyed me. I also found that none of the characters seemed all that distinctive so I kept getting confused as to who was who.

By the end I was probably more confused than when i started and not all that eager to continue with the series. All in all quite a disappointing read and really not my cup of tea.

Ugh. Hated this book so much. If I could give it ZERO stars, I would. The grammatical and punctuation issues abound in this novel. Then there is the femal lead character that becomes increasingly UNlikeable in this novel. First there's the "woman running off and getting caught in more danger that the men have to rescue her from" cliched idiocy. Running off without saying anything to anyone was a ridiculous cliched move to start with. You want to leave? You want to be noble and sacrifice all your happiness allegedly for the sake of the guys' species? Go ahead. But have some dignity and integrity and TELL them to their faces. Say "good-bye, this doesn't work for me." Otherwise, it's just cowardice. There's nothing noble in slinking away and having people worry about you. Then she falls for the lure of the ghoul and the guys have to rescue her...again. Uber lame cliche. So tired of novels with female protagonists doing this. If you're not about empowering women with the female protagonist, don't try to make her attractive. Getting down from the soapbox now.

More issues with inconsistencies. The sun was just setting but a few minutes later she could see things by the light of the moon. Not even remotely possible. Or how about the dragons eating fish from the lake. You mean, the lake that is sulfuric acid and dissolves anything it touches in seconds? That lake? Is it Assembly or Authority?

Then back to the unlikeable issue. The female lead character completely loses me when she starts calling other females in the novel "stupid b!tch" or "stupid whore" over and over and over again. Even if it were just "stupid" it would annoy me. Calling people names is the lowest form of verbal communication, and shouldn't be promoted in any way. The "stupid" bit is also completely inapplicable. There's no issue regarding intelligence or street smarts. The other words are just irritating and denigrating to all women. The author could have chosen another way for the lead character to express herself, or if not, merely could have stated in narration that she called the ghoul or Sophia an unkind name.

And where is the plot progression? the development of relationships? it's all very shallow here. stuff happens, but it's just meh, blah stuff.

Later there's more cliched dialogue between Elizabeth and the guys, including the cliched guilt or anger for her not being able to shift on command and so not saving the world, as if Elizabeth really could have done *anything*. smh. it was just too ridiculous. I'm done with this series. I hate Elizabeth as a character, and am so not interested in any more of these novels.

This is the second installment in this reverse harem series, and they do need to be read in order. This series has some really interesting concepts and some staggeringly creative scenes that I just love, and don't want to spoil for anyone, though I will say that secondary characters shine in this book. Alternatively, there seems to be something missing that has me not connecting to the main characters (and not feeling their connection to each other) still, though I really yearn to, if that makes sense. There are some awkwardly written/incorrectly structured sentences, and some errors, but these are overlooked pretty easily as this is really a fast-paced, easy read. The bigger issue for me is the aforementioned lack of connection. I want to know more about the characters, the heroes especially, and though there is more about them than I have read in some RH series over the last couple of years I still feel like character development could be deeper, with some elements not quite so on-the-nose/easily revealed. I liked that one of the things that bothered me in the first book was kind of talked about, though like my feelings for the characters, it was very on-the-nose/superficial. One character, who I thought would be my favorite after the first book, seemed to change character in this book and it disappointed me. On the theme of characters, I am not getting leadership or maturity from Elizabeth, who it is hinted will become their leader/Alpha eventually (after more challenges which I can only imagine will be as creative as the ones faced so far) and I just can't figure out how that will happen since she doesn't seem like my idea of Alpha. But, at the risk of being a broken record, this author is clearly very creative and it does make sense that she could grow from an untrained, unable to shift Fated Alpha to a strong Alpha over the course of the series. Lastly, I am interested more in this Authority/Assembly the dragons are a part of-it is mentioned several times and it seems strange Elizabeth has never asked any questions about what it is and it's politics. Based on how the book ended, I am anticipating learning a lot more about this aspect in installment three. Re-reading my review it trends negative, but I think part of this is it's easier to write about negative things than to detail positives without ruining what were nice surprises for me. I do plan to continue reading the series, I still want to see what happens.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

4-4.5 stars for book 2 of these fun PNR shifter RH!

I went right in book 2 after book 1 because I needed more! I loved seeing Lizzie learn to shift more, her training with the guys, everything. I liked getting to see the sparks fly between her and some of the guys. Some I felt like they were kinda token characters, like they didnt get their time to shine. I hope this changes in future books, so its more equal between her and the 4 sexy dragons. I think the added complexity with the book enhanced the storyline but the alpha part and things with Sophia and the book kinda confused me more. This is kinda made worse in Book 3 that I am listening to now, but more to come in that review. I think this one was closer on the 4.5 star ratings for me, but again there were some plotholes/confusion from the story that took me out of it a couple times and I had to kinda read back or read some reviews to try and make sure I understood what was going on. I thought the breakthrough with Avery was heartwrenching, I love Hunter so much haha, and still up in the air about Easton and Christian. I think they need to get more airtime. I need to know whats happening with Aaron though!! Ughhh like I want to skip ahead but I am so worried what I will find 😥

For the narration, I thought this one was better than book 2, especially with the added side characters. 4.5 stars from me for the audio. Definitely think Angela was a good selection for this story and the world Ava created. Interested in listening to more from her ❤️

I won’t be finishing this series. Just the constant cliffhanger and the fact I have to buy ANOTHER book that’s less then 200 pages just to finish the story line bothers me. It’s like a novella for the same price as a novel. Just make the damn book longer so we aren’t left with cliffhangers.
Ok beyond that the story is pretty good. Slow though. I don’t really feel like much happened at all until the end. Even then it just felt anticlimactic and uneventful. Plus the love side of the story is basically non existent. Yea she ends up naked A BUNCH in front of these guys but it’s really again anti climatic. Add to that she’s still pinning over a boy who didn’t stand up for her. Yes he got her a getaway car but honestly they had years together. How he can stand by and not fight for a woman he “loves” is beyond me. Then she has these 4 guys who are willing to die protecting her and she can’t make up her mind who she wants? The cowardly wolf who only ever met her in private or the 4 men giving everything to protect her? And she only makes a decision when the decision was basically made for her, by Aaron. Not the kind of woman I want to place my life with. I had such high hopes for this series.

Dragon' me through this plot...

Whoa. We meet some new and unexpected characters here. Discover more about Avery and Easton who has remained in the background through out most of this. What I previously thought about Avery's connection to the ghoul had been challenged. I could be wrong but I'm holding out as I don't think "it" will vanish from the storyline anytime soon. Intriguing. We get get some closure on Elizabeth's choice which is nice but I don't believe it's settled either. There will be a confrontation at some point. Then throw the Dragon authority into this mix and really twist this plot up. Also, we haven't found closure with the wolf pack either. Yes I'm going onto book 3. Yes there is plenty to keep me entertained. Yes I have questions and want some answers. Yes the writing is decent and the occasional humor good. Yes I still give it 3 stars because Elizabeth can be so completely unreasonable as a character. Really destroys the alpha quality in her and makes me want to skim through her stupid moments. I don't but I want to so it gets a 3 for that alone.

Can't. Put. These. Books. Down.

I really liked the action, the addition of more magical creatures & the secrets that were revealed in this one! And I was over-the-moon happy that Elizabeth finally decided to let Aaron go & claimed her dragons.

LOVED that Elizabeth & the guys found the female wolf & her dragon children. Really hoping that we will get the chance to find out what happened with her dragon husband because that totally screams COVER-UP! Saying that he just disappeared... #LiarLiarPantsOnFire

One thing though... WHERE WAS THE SEX?! It's a reverse harem, sex is practically a requirement with this trope!! I NEED it. Just when you thought you were gettin' some filthy lovin', someone would push the other away or let go. *sobs & stamps foot*

Ugh, Sophia... I HATED that she has a history with three of the guys, HATED the blatant flirting, HATED how she tried/threatened to play matchmaker, HATED that she brought them to tribunal to try & separate them... Just plain HATED the b*tch.

Anxious to see what happens next & how everyone will come out unscathed! On to the next book in this series, Elizabeth and the Magic of Dragons!!

This is book two in the series and you need to make sure you've read the first book to understand what's happenshappened before starting this one.
We jump right back into where book one ended, which is good as at the end of book one I was left with that 'don't stop there' feeling.
There is a lot more character and relationship growth in this book, although I do still feel like the main character, Elizabeth, acts younger than she is meant to be. I think that may be why, although I'm enjoying this series, I'm not quite loving it yet. I do feel that the MC acts a little hit and miss at times with her thoughts and emotions. However I'm really liking the four male MC.
The first half of the book was very much about Elizabeth trying to merge with her newly emerged wolf, although she's still not there yet. The second part of the book was where the story line started to develop more and from that ending I do want to know what happens next so am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

I received a copy of this book from the author and I gladly leave my review.
I love Reverse Harem books and Ava Mason is up there with the best. This is the 2nd book to the series and wow what a book. The adventures never stop with Elizabeth and her Dragons. This is the continuation from book 1 and you have to get book 1 to understand the characters. Elizabeth and her Dragons fly to Hawaii ( by plane) and one of the Dragons see’s his ex and she is such a rude cow to Elizabeth, Elizabeth gets jealous and runs away and on her travels she runs into a ghoul. That’s all I’m giving you and if you want to find out what happens next then you need to get this book and believe me you won’t regret it. I’m trying to be patient and wait for the 3rd book but it’s not easy when there’s so much going on, but I know it will b worth it in the end. Fantastic read and I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone that loves wolf and Dragon shifters.

Doesn't miss a beat, picking up immediately after the previous story

The previous story felt like it stopped mid-scene, and this book picks up with the next sentence, in that same place and time, so the reader doesn't miss a beat.

Quick reads like this, that are released in a series of quick, easy one evening reads are why I signed up for Kindle Unlimited. I like being able to simply grab the next installment without fretting over the price, and if it's in the budget at the moment.

In this installment we spend a lot of time getting to know the characters, particularly the guys. And Elizabeth is beginning to realize that being an Alpha is an ingrained part of her, whether she is with the pack she was born into, or is forming a new pack with some incredible Dragon shifters.

We also get some insights into Dragon society, and world building on that side of things, where the previous story was more focused on the wolf pack.

SPOILERS!
Continuing on with the RH Fated series, book 2 is even better than the first one!

Elizabeth and dragon quad go off to Hawaii to hide and train, and of course enter the shady ex-girlfriend who desperately wants to sink her claws in the dragon quad. Not to mention, her wolf love that she had to leave behind is now engaged! And of course, Elizabeth’s wolf that is just not into being cooperative. Poor Fated Alpha just can not catch a break!

I was pleasantly surprised with the turn of events in this novel, I found it to be a much better read than the first one. However, and maybe it’s due to the fact that this is such a short story, but there seems to be a real lack of character develop.

I can’t wait to see what happens next, and I’m really hoping to see Elizabeth grow into her role as Alpha!

Fun

You know before you start that the book is short and probably ends in a cliff hanger. So when you get to the end it’s no shock that you have to get the next book to get the continuation. The books are short enough that I don’t get why they didn’t just put all 4 short books into one good novel. The story is pretty original so I definitely appreciated that. It’s fun and action packed. The heroine definitely has flaws, but that gives her room to grow. I do wish the stories were more detailed and the characters more developed, especially our male dragons. You learn more about them in sequel books, but it’s still just surface layer information. But the books are enjoyable, fun and quick to read.

I liked this book. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book though. I just had too many issues with it. For one, there isn't enough build up for me. Everything I want is just being handed to me entirely too easily and I feel like the story is just moving too fast. I can barely get attached to the scene or what is happening to the characters because it goes by too quickly. I also don't have any fear for the characters when they are in dangerous situations. I know that they will be fine and I just don't care enough about the characters individually. I'm not emotionally invested at all. Overall, this just wasn't the book for me and I will not be continuing the series. This is really a shame because it had a lot of potential.

Book two and I want to squeal! A good book is a book that makes your heart race as you read it, to me a book that makes me want to squeal in excitement is a sign of a great read. I am really enjoying this book, it is exciting from start to finish, Elizabeth’s fighting now for many things, and the fight is about to ramp up

Well written with a great storyline, characters that you just cannot help but fall in love with. There is a lot going on but it’s easy to keep up with and you feel like you are fighting right alongside with Elizabeth and her guys, and I cannot predict what is going to happen next, I am loving this series and am so excited for the next book

I was gifted an ARC of this book, which is the second installment of the series. In this book, Elizabeth grows closer to the Dragons and the reader begins to understand the dynamics of their relationship. Each of the guys is so different, but they begin to open up to Elizabeth about how they feel, and she realizes she cares for them equally.

Together, they face some horrifically scary mythical creatures in their quest to find a female wolf and male dragon who have successfully mated - and may not even exist. This book ends with a soft cliffhanger - it's not abrupt and the current story arc concludes, but something new is about to happen. I enjoyed this story and recommend the series.
